  1. Them lettuce look lovely and clean all ways a good selling point with the family that. I grew some butterball lettuce this year and won't be again. They are a magnet for the little slugs getting in. I grew some others as well nice and crispy much better slugs been on the rampage and decimated me runners which were looking good strawberries get a good nibbling as well. Nothing sacred ready for the caterpillars though
  2. aye get a couple of kits and gently does it. Depending on the dogs attitude kits will be quite tempting but as its a pup you are in good position. My dog has been around ferrets all his life but never seen a kit until a week or two ago and lets just say things didn't go that well But he is on track with them now
  3. Could look into cordons was thinking about a couple my self couple random pics off google
  4. sort of an unspoken thing really ? Surely if some one is coming up the street blasting people and knifing them and you have a gun in the cabinet your not going to rush to the kitchen for a rolling pin
  5. Car bike racks are great but its just the hassle factor. It only takes a minute to pop on but its still a pain by the time you get it out the shed and get the straps all tangled though you do get some that clamp on the tow hitch. Then when you get where your going you have to take it off and stick it in the car and then out and back on unless it locks some how. Then you have the wheels off option which is still a pain even though it only takes seconds and then you got oily bits to stuff in your car. So that leaves the folder. Never tried one but I do keep my eyes open for one because i think
  6. I know one thing cool and calm wins the day. Dogs pick up on stress, excitement a mile away and you can end up with the opposite of what your looking for he says
  7. Every thing looks good to me including your mrs though seriously your veg all looks to be thriving. Most of my stuff as a rule has that struggling look about it How did you cook your pigeon ? Ha it is a terrible pic of the Mrs ! I roasted it with onions and sweet potato, did that beets with onion balsamic vinegar and honey, every thing this year is going well I think it's the duck muck I got it was 4 years old and black yes good manure or home made compost seems key. I tipped one of my daleks out one year and popped spuds in it and they thrived compared to the others

  9. You are lucky you have a nice clean slate. Consistency seems key which is harder than sounds at least for me. Don't let bad habits start by not put the dog in a position to cock up if you help it. Don't have him walking perfect one day then let him lax the next day. Some thing I all ways do. Even today walking across the fields dog in heel behind but he was sloping out the back and kept stopping and looking across the field. I had plenty of warning but just just kept calling him on instead popping lead back on. Sure enough off he went like a rocket across the field as he knows there is sme tim
  10. This patches of strawberries is all green so far. Been chopping runners off but the main patch is more fruit I put some netting over the main ones as the old birds been helping them selves bit too much broccoli looking good lets hope it stays that way was worried i lost a lot of parsnips to slugs when they were small but they have come good. Only done two rows I grow way to many as a rule the old comfrey for me toms. Shame I left it there still running. Just hope it don't rain or fall over I was thinking of you today dido. I had some spuds t
  11. I was guilty of that walked, ran my pup every night to knacker him out. Didn't do him any harm but I would been better off spending time training. I got him in the habit of going to fields every night and belting around then spent the next 3 years trying to teach him not too
  12. looks fine to me I don't get any more and mine are in the ground
  13. they send away the removed bit to see if its the correct part. Mine was going to charge an extra few quid for the privilege so I didn't bother and wallah a nice bunch of kits a few months later which the mum promptly ate
  14. gardeners world and Saturday kitchen for me though I never watch it on a Saturday
  15. I had that happen. But I read it is quite a fiddly op. I ended up having him castrated in the end
  16. nothing trivial about it mine is 3 years old and I still tweak his lead walking. He never pulls but I seem to have gone fussy in my old age and like him to walk exactly where i say. I wont office advice as i know bugger all But plenty here do
  17. yes fine dog that too. Just has a sensible look about not like these mad hyper collies Nearly as good as this. blame my daughter needs sound. Shes mad
  18. Sorry, what do you mean by mix ? try and en gauge, get to close and fight it out
  19. When I took mine to check my snares I put him in a sit back a bit out the way I think its one of them start as you mean to go on jobs
  20. My JR used to do that just drive them back 10-20 yards then get back to watching the nets and if they ignored him he just went the other side of the hedge out the way. He also learnt not to get cut off in case they flattened him
  21. speaking of onions longest day soon be glad to get the other side of that and hopefully watch them swell
  22. I think that is a good point as when I was younger I never had a dog even chase a sheep as they all ways took the lead off the old terrier who was bomb proof. It never even occurred to me at the time But the lurcher I have now has given me lots of problems but we got there. Just as a thought the people that say its so easy and they have never had problems if you lived until your 90 and got through 20 dogs in your life time that is obviously a tiny percentage of the lurcher population so maybe you just haven't come across an awkward one.
