So, Tell Us, What Are Ye All At In The Veg Garden?
terryd replied to JohnGalway's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
yes we are not allowed weed killer so its just been a case of digging it all out. Right pain as you turn you back and it creeps in from the edges so I try and maintain a trench down both sides of me plot -

manageable sections I guess and ease of access. One of my plots had a couple of raised beds but they were riddled with bind weed and I could not get it out. So I demolished them so I could just dig through with out obstacles. Saying that now I am trying the no dig I have started a few beds but with no sides -
One that just gets on with it and a good finder. My old jill is no nonsense and straight to it and if there is a rabbit in there she will find it

Anyway having that eye contact is a great thing I hate it lol. My lurcher is all ways laying in his crate with one eye on me just in case. His all ways listening and I only have to touch his rope lead in the kitchen and he hears it from his crate in the front room just the bloody rustle of it. His a good lad but if we ever have another its going out side

Bit of hoeing on plot one this morning. These plots get so much easier to handle once you tame the buggers. Things look nice with netting off and easy to work but it wouldn't last long unnetted. Red cabbage, kale and cauli runner bean patch and plenty of cardboard for the slugs these things need to stop going mad dwarf beans and out door toms few broadbeans spuds looking good now goosegogs hopefully they don't all drop off before they ripen like last year looks like I should have pruned me raspberries last year -
ardglass harbour is the exact same yea it was a novelty to start but that soon wore off when he stripped a 100 yards of line off and surfaced with my bass the cheeky fooker I gave up after that and just used to pack up and move

blight free so far jok but only a matter of time lol. Yea the dreaded whites won't be far away. I hate them sods which is why i net up but still get some damage -
I hooked a seal once that learnt to ambush me as I reeled fish in. It would see me setup from bloody miles away then suddenly appear just in front of me and wait. It was a race to beach the fish before it intercepted and one time I failed. That put a bend in me rod

yep will do never thought of that

Any clues what is going on here with my old jill ? It started as what looked like a cut of some sort. One day it is red and bloody then the next scabbed over and I think great its heeling. But it has turned into more of a protruding lump now with what looks like a hole in the middle. Picture is not the best but she wouldn't keep still. Fine other wise carrying plenty of weight and playing about. Best take her to the vet tomorrow unless any one has any ideas as it looks bad today but was dry yesterday. She is a good old girl

lol jok you just named the two that don't work well in modules. I have never tried beetroots like that before all ways sown direct and I have this year too but also tried some off in modules and to be honest so far it does seem to agree with them. Plus you dont get gaps and you can slot them in where ever you see fit. All my brassica I start off in pots and get them well developed before planting out. I do sow swede direct as well -
she would look great in jeans and jumper for god sake whats with the I am off swimming look
-
yea a beard and red lippy just don't go
-
I wouldn't get far with out nets around here despite having old rocket arse

I would be tempted to throw a bag or two of compost in at least the top level as the manure maybe a bit chunky initially. Just to make it easier to sow small stuff if thats your plan. Even with the allotment I am finding it beneficial to start lots of stuff in modules after watching old charles dowding lol So once the plants are ready for planting does he split them or just whack them in the ground . whacks them in the ground and he a clip there some where of say 4 or 5 beetroot in a clump with no apparent loss of size and he just twists out what he wants. -
