  1. Happily, I believe there is room for both. To be fair though, I feel that all riflemen need to avoid greed when it comes to taking quarry and moderation should be a key word for all hunters. The exception of course is where the landowner insists on 'fast pest control'. Then all tactics need to be employed to make sure you keep your permission. If you won't, then somebody else will.
  2. Had one in 1999 to 2000. TBH it was crap. I went for the gimicky looks (I was young!) over function and it was never that accurate. Cheaply made and bettered by almost any other pcp on the market IMHO. The 'cheek pad' was hard to use consistently and it leaked on and off too. Worst rifle I've had to use. Better off with a AA S200 tbh (or a HW springer as I changed mine for) Cheers Duncan PS - mine was a Gunpower Stealth, by the way. PPS - to the OP; your BSA Supersport is a far better rifle to a Gunpower Stealth in almost every way
  3. You must have been made up mate - sounds like you've recruited a cracker Liked the write up too
  4. Squirrel hunting with my best mate tomorrow ; can't wait!

  5. Having read a few posts now that refer to shooting quarry from a 4x4 with a rifle; I can understand where they are coming form to an extent. With the exception of shooting the odd corvid from my mates Shoguns with a .17 HMR, I've only ever stalked bunnies etc with rifles on foot and engaged the quarry's land personally. I reckon I walk the land in a hunting session (carrying a 9lb rifle and kit) easily as much as the average dogman Sporting? Rifle hunting is a raging certainty and not sporting? I don't think so. Try stalking a rabbit with an air rifle! Your quarry has acute hearing able to d
  6. Sounds like a really good session- well done. I wouldn't worry too much about the retrieve situation as it sounds like you're doing all the right things
  7. ah, humour, now I understand As I said, I reckon I'll be using the guns less and the dog more as time goes on As long as I'm hunting with gun or dog or both, I'm happy and that's my opinion
  8. ...and dogs are for those who aren't able to get firearms...seriously! Give it a rest! For me rifles came first, so my first field sport passion was rifle based. I've never had a hunting dog til recently so am certainly no 'failed dogman'. I'm a successful rifleman and shotgunner who has expanded his horizons and embraced new ways of hunting; maybe some of the doggy naysayers should open their minds and see if they're any good at rifle shooting?
  9. Actually, i've met a lot of people who couldn't shoot a rifle accurately if their life depended on it. You can't legally send a dog after a fox (which is mad if you ask me, when its perfectly ok to send a dog after a bunny), so firearms and traps surely are the only options. I'm looking forward to using my lurcher as an all-rounder: hunting rabbits, lamping, retrieving shot pigeon, squirrel, ducks etc and I have a feeling I'll be shooting less as I work my dog more and more. But I will always keep my air rifle and firearms as I've not found a breed of dog that can fly or climb trees Truly
  10. Hi folks, As the apparent animosity from dogmen towards shooters keeps rearing it's ugly head in here, I am curious to know how many others have rifles/guns as well as dogs. I know one other really good chap from here who shoots as well as hunts with his dogs but are there any others? And why the bad blood from dogmen towards shooters anyway? Personally, I argue for all field sports and vote in favour of all field sports- united we stand, after all. Any input welcome! Cheers Duncan.
  11. I know what you mean Thomps- I went ferreting yesterday with long nets, purse nets, dog n gun and a couple of really solid guys and took the whole day to get 7. Beat watching some shite on telly though.
  12. If I'd been threatened with a shotgun and had a mate with me as witness, my mobile would have been out of my pocket with a call to the police for assistance in seconds.
  13. I reckon the wankers with ferrets take more than the arseholes with rifles and the tosspots with dogs put together. Myxomatosis and RVHD take more than all coonts combined. Not many about here on north bucks either. Nevermind, numbers always bounce back and quickly too if you take the pressure off them and allow them to breed. Duncan (arsehole with rifle, dickhead with dogs n shithead with shotgun, ferrets in post).
  14. I think you're right Phil. My 11 week has a whine occasionally when she suddenly realises she wants attention (she gets ample). Getting better as time goes on though.
  15. I like your good, honest write up Ideation. Looking forward to more
  16. Crikey! a lot with young for this time of year.
  17. Our does can produce 4 or more litters in a year and the young are sexually mature in a matter of weeks. So populations can boom and bust in a matter of a few months.
  18. I took the pack for a walk today with my youngest lad which was really nice on the bridleways until we got to the cycle way by the road. It was a way we don't normally go and to my dismay, it was covered with various litter. Beer cans, coke cans, fag packets etc etc etc etc ad nauseum! WTF! I'm betting the same slovenly lazy-assed b*stards who lob stuff from their cars are the same morons who keep moaning about paying high taxes. Bearing in mind that they are causing the cost of hiring people to go and pick up their shit that they thru from their cars in the first damn place! Makes my blo

  20. I really enjoyed your account and would look forward to the next one. Like your style
  21. With minced pork bellies to put in some much needed fat or they tend to be very dry when you cook them. I tried rabbit meat only burgers and they weren't that nice. The fat in the pork bellies goes crispy too mmmmm! Good when you add some fresh herbs in and perhaps a few dried chilli flakes too, inevitably some finely sliced onion, or shallot if they're available.
  22. once youve plucked a fair few youll figure out its quicker and cleaner to skin them But I like the skin when it goes crispy
  23. Eaten too much, drunk too much need to get out with a gun!
