  1. It's a date Kev, but not boxing day - folkies are over. See ya soon chap
  2. Yep - our islamic cousins, feel free to sit in an empty Mcd's wasting electric and costing the business money. Happy frickin Xmas to ya!
  3. to be fair, when little kids are running around the place, christmas does feel a lot more magical. It's not even about Christianity if we're honest though is it? Ultimately it was a celebration of the winter solstice, a pagan tradition (the original British religion) which the Christians adopted when they arrived. Christ was actually born in October so just how Christian is Christmas? Ring out solstice bells!
  4. Finding this one hard to get to riled about - if they want to put a non-christian staff on in McD's on Xmas day then good luck to them. I won't be ordering and therefore vote with my wallet on the matter as will 99.9% of the rest of us I imagine. Sometimes people look for things to get worked up about IMHO.
  5. Very useful looking motor mate. Is 34mpg average or on a run? Looking for a change soon myself. The Jag just doesn't seem to like the off-road duties
  6. I'm afraid to say, I am not. Wife keeps asking me if I'm feeling christmassy. Feeling pressured to give a positive response. Well, my kids are 16 and 11 so instead of a letter to Santa its a list of Argos item numbers and costs. Money isn't exactly crash hot at the mo (but there's millions worse off I guess) and Xmas to me lately represents more financial pressure and pointless commercialism. When i was a kid, you put 'radio controlled car' on your wish list and would be surprised at whatever turned up. It was magic, exciting and wonderful. Where's the romantic notion of surprise
  7. I suppose different terrain will pose different challenges and numbers of quarry types so could be interesting. Also differenct members takes on the same challenges. Count me in if I can help. ATB D.
  8. Pigeon shooting on rape today. Result? 1 crow!

    1. paulus

      paulus

you surpose to shoot where the pigeons are feeding...lol

  9. They do tend to be more nocturnal in the winter. You'll see a heck of a lot more with a lamp in the wee hours DM.
  10. Until a few years ago we'd have no myxy until september, it would pass in a couple of months. Dormant? its passed by fleas from rabbit to rabbit and when the weather turns bad and the bunnies spend more time below ground they swap more fleas hence the myxoma virus rises again. The rabbits are getting more resistant to it thanks to their rapid rate of reproduction, so sooner or later it shouldn't be much of a problem to them. Still horrible to see them in such discomfort though. Ironically, I do have some affection for rabbits, for all I've culled thousands and would like to see the back
  11. Bedford Rascal van. Great as a hide for shooting, not bad on the green lanes but any more was asking for trouble! Shite for demisting the windscreen, points (remember those?) would wander like nobodys business and it would go in and out of tune several times in one journey.
  12. Nice going and good to drop the occasional pheasant for the pot Went after a black jap one myself today with the shottie, stalked it along a hedgeline and it gave me the slip near what turned out to be a discarded black bag Proved that my gun patterns well though
  13. He will love you, try your patience and reward you I bet. Glad youve righted another mans wrongs and I do hope for the fun of it that he occsionally catches some supper for you. ATB Duncan
  14. No ageism mate, the OP said he was about to enter his 3rd decade is all. I'm about to enter my 5th D.
  15. Theres some truly outstanding pictures coming through this thread and full credit to all concerned. Moll and Lurchergrrl are my winners (if it were a competition) but lots of great pics of well loved, well looked-after dogs and hounds that are clearly integrated into families and hunting and provide a truly brilliant public face of hunting with dogs. Crackin job folks! Duncan.
  16. You forgot the interminable Xmas party phrase, 'Can I feel your Norks?'
  17. In a word, training. Try a thread on the lurcher section mate
  18. My local butchers only give a quid a rabbit. TBH, they are worth more to me as fresh meat than that. I saw rabbit meat in Tesco for £4.50 for 400g of diced meat. So going by Tesco prices I'd need nearly a tenners worth of meat to feed my family for a meal. Glad I hunt? damned right! Duncan
  19. Nice to read some realistic expectations. I hope you find the right dog for you. Cheers Duncan.
  20. Welcome aboard Bob, exciting times ahead for you! You are in a good place for advice and guidance too. Cheers Duncan
  21. Goes back to WWII, when the bikes were confiscated by the krauts. Hitler (who so easily could have been called 'Schickelgrueber') has cast a long shadow.
  22. So you're almost entering your 4th decade
  23. you're not slow mate, despite what they say
  24. Thanks mate - soft as grease around the home, til someones at the door he doesn't know
  25. OK, not lurchers (mines only 10 weeks) but these guys are hunting the elusive snow lion: Hungry for more !
