  3. I had a very pleasant afternoon out with Paulus today, my last day off work. Gale force winds didn't put us off and we headed out with guns and dog to Pauls local roost where we recce'd for where the pigeons were flighting in to shelter and roost. Woodies were coming in on impressive winds and consequently were 'shifting' like missiles. As a result, Pauls lurcher (with distinguished greying muzzle) had some proper retrieving tasks set him as the speed and height the pigeons were moving at meant that their momentum was carrying them deep into the wood behind us and into some pretty thi
  4. promised night was a good 'un :)

  5. Can't say as I've ever had a poi change with my pcp or springers I've had. My Co2 ratcatcher does seem to punch harder in the summer months though. Hunted below freezing with the HW100 and not had a problem. At least with yours you can tune it out though. Cheers D.
  6. bb89 nice starter rifle, the Lightning and .22 is the best calibre for a springer IMHO as it goes off sweeter with softer recoil than a .177 Cheers Duncan.
  7. I had the 440 in Realtree camo and a very nice, accurate springer it was too and while I had it, the Gamo put plenty in the bag. It's no Weihrauch, but it was more than enough for full range hunting. Duncan
  8. I'm a fan of the hw mod - on my rifle it does render the report pretty much inaudible. I've never had the thought 'is there a quieter mod?'.
  9. I once got asked if I wanted to adopt a Panda. But as I told the nice lady, I had nowhere to keep it
  10. When I was young n stoopid, I went air rifle shooting in some woods near home with a friend who was equally young and stoopid. Using felled trees as back stops we punched paper happily til Mike fired at a the section end of a tree trunk from about 30 yards. His pellet flattened and rebounded towards him at high speed. It left a cut half an inch under his right eye...freaky! He literally almost 'took his own eye out' as teachers are oft fond of saying.

  13. Domes are recommended because they tend to be most accurate at range. When you hit a bunny twixt ear and eye it will die no matter what the pellet shape is, they don't seem to mind. Try a few good quality ones on paper - H&N FT Trophy, AA Field and similar. See which one is most accurate through your particular rifle and make your selection. Pretty straight forward really Then of course, practise at ranges you'll be hunting at til you get nice tight groups (pound coin size is a good marker) and then you'll be confident in getting clean kills. 16. Eggs, crispy bacon and toast with OJ and plenty of coffee and/or tea. Plenty of fluids to combat dehydration.
  17. "Or can I take the gun into the restaurant/pub?" Great question. Sounds fabulous
  18. Nice going Moley Bagged an impressive cock pheasant myself today. It must have been an more 'ornamental' variety as the feathers were a little more elaborate and prone to loosing bits (made a proper mess when I plucked it!).
