  1. Depends on depth and size, it will heal from the inside out if left open, salt water bathe it daily and keep her on a lead until fully healed, when out try and tape a sock to it to stop crap getting in, but take it off when you get back to allow air in, that's what I've done with my dog and she seems prone to standing on glass its happened a few times now Atb Micky
  2. I suppose if the drones passing over private land without permission and it poses a risk of falling on you or your dogs there's no reason you shouldn't be able to blow it out the sky with a 12 bore I like the idea of a camera detector but we shouldn't have to work like that, if you see a camera that shouldn't be there claim it and sell it on ebay I suppose it would be more useful for the packs to try and stay out of trouble around sets
  3. The way I see it if the dog dont retrieve after proper training its probably more intelligent than its owner, if a dog is passed on because of that I hope they don't get another dog as the same will probably happen again with the new one, I'm sure there are exceptional circumstances but in general if you put the time and effort in you both should be rewarded.
  4. I disagree. If you mix treats and retrieves the pup will soon stop carrying to hand and will instead just run back for its treat. They do not reason like humans. Treats should be used for recall only, once the carrying starts there should be no treats as by that time the recall should be programmed deep in the dogs brain. but thats JMHO. I dont know about about that, with my bitch (she very food orientated) I used to reward her only when the object was delivered to hand, however my young terrier might have been a gun dog in a previous life he regularly brings me random objects when out and ret
  5. if you scroll down that page Mickey they also sell separate neck sections so you can change them in the field Yeh I seen that but when I'm lamping I wanna choose a suitable target with the red and be able change to white quickly within a second or two, I can see having to change them by screwing on and off a ball ach with the dogs, its more designed for shooting and keeping the colour on, but I'm sure I can source and modify a flip up or a clip on lens for it
  6. http://www.nightmaster.co.uk/hunting-lamping-light.shtml I like the idea of this lamp, concealable but you would have to make or source a filter as they only supply different colour LEDs obviously i just need a filter to pop on and off as and when i need it. Getting giddy now cant wait until Sept.
  7. My mate had a dog that didn't like water about 3 year old, we took it down the river and walked up the middle for a bit it went waist deep in places so the dog had to swim at points, it doesn't bother him now and he jumps in water now to retrieve stuff. Worked out quite well
  8. Always be willing to walk that extra mile, that last field, just check that last spot, games relatively scarce for me, sometimes its the difference between going home empty handed or with meat in the bag
  9. First day in August, first day of conditioning, did a few mile on the bike this morning and barely a pant from her, few more days of it and ill kick it up a notch atb Micky
  10. Personally I think its bullshit, you go on CA website type in the search engine lurchers or terriers nothing comes up apart from a few shows, now type in hounds.... The problem is Mr Bonner and crew don't attempt to put running dogs in the lime light, if they did maybe peoples opinion of hunting hares would be similar to that of hunting fox? I got the email and I'm happy to play my part in any way I can but I wont be handing out cash to CA until I see some running dog based campaigns an email doesn't mean anything maybe just what you want to hear in order to drum up funds, call me skeptical bu
  11. I'd try and keep it away from places with game until its old enough, when it barks at cats while on the lead correct it as the same as you would if it barked at a sheep, depending on its age as above try and get it some easy runs it may lose its frustration with some easy catches ATB Micky
  12. True but its the cretins on FB (their not all cretins) that have provided the opposition all the ammo they need, 11,000 is hardly enough to make an impact, if we are to march it should be organised and led by genuine blokes who love their sport and dont need an ego boost by posting illegal pics all over the web, there's a few people on here who are credible and hold respect from like minded folk, we should march but to go down with some unorganized rag tag mob will only be detrimental to our cause. jmo Micky
  13. I'm not on FB if we are to march somebody credible should arrange it, not some cretins off FB that just want to riot, we should get a pinned page up to organise maybe make contact with the CA they can do the marketing for it to get everyone in field sports there
  14. I've always liked small, fast aggressive Jills and big strong smelly hobs, both have their uses, I've never kept more than one hob at a time though ATB Micky
  15. That will help yay march It would better than doing nothing moaning on here, a trip to London where we can all moan together ?
  16. Could this mean we could get a full repeal if we have EVEL instead of just the amendment? It would certainly mean a major shift in the balance of power and the size of the Conservative majority..... but I guess they have to get EVEL through first and that will be a battle in itself. Nevertheless.... interesting times ahead very interesting times ahead.....I really do hope the SNPs have pissed on their battered mars bar for the last time!
  17. Could this mean we could get a full repeal if we have EVEL instead of just the amendment?
  18. This may be a good thing if they stop Scottish votes first we may get a full repeal instead (wishful thinking i know)
  19. well that just fked up my day, i think a march needs to be arranged if this doesn't go through
  20. Cheers Bosun, I hope so, i'm surprised she replied i didn't get anything back from the last one we did re: repeal, I do hope it goes through it could open some doors for me for digging in the future.

  22. This was my reply - Dear Julie, Thank you for your reply, although its not what I wanted to hear it is what I expected, you may not know this but the hunting act doesn't just stop people following packs of hounds on horseback to cull fox, hard working men, women and children of this town risk persecution should their lurcher take chase of a mammal that is not exempt (rats & Rabbits). Common sense should tell you that the law is flawed by the following facts - 1) I can hunt a 7-9lb hare with a 2-3lb hawk but not with a 60lb dog, legally speaking this is absurd based on the law b
  23. I'm surprised just got my reply - Dear Mr. Ballinger, Thank you for contacting me recently regarding the Hunting Act. I share your appreciation for the British countryside and believe that we need to do more to preserve our countryside and to support communities living in rural areas. That is why I believe the Government should prioritise the wider issues affecting rural communities such as low wages, the shortage of affordable housing, improving infrastructure and protecting public services. I also believe the Government should be focusing on tackling rising energy prices and
