Let them see stock, especially sheep, from an early age, pups like to investigate and chase anything new,or anything that runs, this is when you instill in them what is and is not chaseable, you will have to go through the same routine time and time again, when you are confident you have cracked it,then do it all again to be absolutely sure and keep giving refresher courses as the dog matures and develops. If you have the need to physically punish the dog, then you are doing it all wrong.

Keepers are paid to do a job of work,if they were to let everybody have free rein over the land they are employed on,they would soon be on the dole, some keepers are better than others, human nature, but none of them want poachers on their patch, they usually have a family to provide for and if it comes between you trying to poach and them protecting their livelihood, then its a no brainer. If you get bothered by the keeper, move on and try elsewhere.

Its because of peoples ignorance,as above, that the ban was implemented, because of hunting site forums the antis and animal welfare organisations have all the ammo they need to keep the ban in place, the majority of this ammo comes from the mindless minority in the lurcher world. So you think the ban was implemented by the lad running his dog in the middle of the night, silently, as opposed to a load of brightly coloured people on horseback charging around the countryside with horns in broad daylight and killing foxes infront of the public eye is not an issue? Do you need a passport

It will all depend on the dog, some bitches will not leave the pups for weeks and have little exercise, once weaned from pups the fitness regime will have to start from scratch and they may not be fully ready for 6 weeks, depending on the quarry. My last bitch wanted to tag along with me after 24 hours, she was still picking up rabbits whilst feeding the pups,i tried to lock her with the pups and she took her frustration out on the pups, when the pups where weeks old she had to be in the field or she was a nightmare.Allow the bitch to do what she is comfortable with,a tired worn out bitch will strug

Do people still wear them?,for a quick fix i used to use a spray on wax, every year the old wax proof was thrown in the washer, when dry it was hung in a warm airing cupboard and hand waxed,a laborious process. Most outdoor centres used to sell the wax.

Most of my bunny bashing was done around N.Yorks, the vast majority of the dogs catches i achieved there were not near cover or fences.

There is a law for going equipped in pursuit of game,it was enforceable before the ban,if you are on land without permission carrying anything that could be used to catch or kill game then you could be charged, most prosecutions use old laws to prosecute that have been about for centuries.

Goldens are one of the easiest of the ornamental pheasants to breed from, they prefer a well concealed nest site,as with a lot of pheasants they usually lose a clutch or two before they become efficient parents,i used to remove the cock bird when the hen was sitting as some of them will kill the young, there have been plenty of imports over the years,so unrelated pairs should be sourced,a good sign of pure stock is yellow legs, anything else is usually a sign of Lady Amherst blood in the breeding, for the purists this may be a problem but i would'nt be to bothered as the Amherst is an attractive b

I prefer a dog to run canny around hedgerows,id rather let something run another day, than risk an unecessary and avoidable injury,a clever dog that pulls up will put more in the bag in its working lifetime than a dog carrying unecessary knocks and strains.

For anybody who knows my permission its a waste of time walking it,there's nowt there,so you may as well try somebody elses.

it would more than likely do the same to the bull x Did'nt you know Bullx's can,Run,Jump,F**k,Fight, wheel a barrow and ride a bike,so a fat Akita as little chance but to learn some manners.
-
Im no fan of bullx's,but in a situation like this id be tempted to borrow a dog of a certain disposition and take it for walkies and learn somebody a lesson in doggy manners,to many on here to quick to jump on the "report him" bandwagon.

The cross is still popular, its locating the correct type thats the drawback and knowing what else may surface in the progeny.

what is an acceptable slip(pre ban of course)
morton replied to nick.c's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Most of the land i walked, the dogs hunted up at liberty,so there was little control over the distances,if out coursing slips of 60-70 yds where the norm, young dogs 20-30 yds for the first few runs.If a blank day then a dirty slip or 2,to put something in the pot. -
Where's the dog from?. I got it from mn at 5 momth old d he was from gateshead. why ? Its difficult to source that type now,id like to see the parents in the field, for future reference.

Decent keepers are hard enough come by,so treat them as they would treat you, well done.

You should,nt have betrayed his trust then, your actions could easily have impacted on him,but i doubt that will ever cross your mind, again well done the dog with the irresponsible owner. He,just a young lad starting out and by the sound of the lads post the keeper knew the score, do you think the lads gonnae turn round to the keeper and say no I,m not slipping the dog,I,m worried about the consequences, is he fook so gie it a rest Thats the trouble with young lads starting out now,no respect for f**k all except their own interests,if they cannot be shown the mistakes that may shape th

First impressions can make you for life, youve been invited to beat and the 1st chance you get you betray a certain amount of trust by slipping your dog,we can put that down to youthful enthusiasm,if the wrong person had witnessed your moment of madness the outcome may have been less favourable.Well done to the dog,but the owner may need to show a little more restraint and responsibility.

Does'nt matter what people do,the green eyed monster believes nothing,if their dogs not doing it,then nobody's can.

Take them down to London and let them watch the riots, that should bring them on nicely, don't forget to wear some bling, put your laptop under your arm and keep your wallet visible.

I can never understand why certain people become obsessed by other peoples opinion's on their dogs exploits in the field,if you do what YOU want with the mutt and are happy doing it then crack on.The ones with the superiority complex are usually the ones to avoid.Pre-ban any dog i owned had to be an accomplished bunny basher, they also had to have the ability to have a certain amount of versatility.

The last riot in that locality happened when a local Hag bred a 3 legged black cat,the villagers chased her down the cobbles sreaming"kill the witch".After drowning the unfortunate soul in the duck pond they looted the turnip store. The local branch of the cats rescue are now hoping to re-home the kitten away from the area.
