  1. Genuine working K.C. Bedlington,i very much doubt it,some people claim ownership of such dogs, but nothing that will stand a test in the field.
  2. Many years ago,i was based at the side of the airport with my bunk overlooking the runway, the amount of hares on the grass verges, definitely in the 100,s,i used to watch their antics for hours on end.
  3. 15 coppers, rspca, camera crews and reporters, doors kicked in all over Keighley,3 arrested one on his toes and more arrests to follow.Dogs, mobiles, computers and hunting devices seized, lads stashing dogs and trying to destroy incriminating evidence.Prison sentences will most likely follow, lads will get life bans on keeping dogs, others will get hassled every time they venture about. All because of a couple of big egos and posting pic,s.
  4. Now your just being stupid, anybody knows they have to be weaned first,i would not even think about entering to fox until at least 8 weeks, then id double them up with a litter mate.
  5. If you did your apprenticeship with the old timers they could tell you which piles to enter, which to leave alone and the ones you took your chance with.To many good dogs have never re-surfaced over the years.Years ago decent dogs where commonplace,it was,nt to difficult to source a replacement or two,now its much harder to source a decent type,so people are more selective where they enter.
  6. Id have told him to sort his dogs out,if id have wanted the pup i would have offered him some money, deducting what i thought it may cost to put the dog right.
  7. I can,t say i blame people for not liking you L.,you are a big long ugly f****r.Nobody can crab that mucky russell though, that dogs earned its respect.
  8. No justification to do something like this, even the worst of the worst in lurcher lads could never stoop to those standards, butchery in the name of sport.
  9. I think iv seen this same picture more times and on more posts than any other picture in history on the huntinglife ! Possibly because it is a fine example of the breed. possibly Its just my observation im not commenting on the mans dog. I dont care who owns it,if i owned a dog as striking as that id want every b*****d to see it,whether they wanted to or not.
  10. I think iv seen this same picture more times and on more posts than any other picture in history on the huntinglife ! Possibly because it is a fine example of the breed.
  11. A young fella i know brought is 3/4 bred for me to look at today,8 month old, bought from a man from Washington, nice balanced bitch should level out at 25-26".Looks like it will make a usefull sort,i do prefer the Collie influence though.
  12. Young lads seem to follow the latest must have lurcher,i like to think that once theyve cut their teeth on the "must have lurcher" they realise they need something a little more versatile and go to the old type tried and tested lurchers.
  13. I do sympathise with young lads trying to get started now, mobile phones made it difficult, every nosey b""""rd will be on the blower to drop you in it,then the hunting ban really f***ed the job up.Before the ban if the boys in blue stopped you there was little they could do.My son asks me the best places to go,where to park, best way to drive back,is it worth losing a motor and having dogs consficated?.Even on permission its illegal to hunt what the dogs are bred for,it leaves people with only two choices. Its encouraging to see lads still at it with the obstacles they face now.F**k em.
  14. Some dogs take to it some don,t,a dog that can use its nose usually fares the best,a dog i had in the ,s i used to take to a bit of land that you could,nt put a lamp on,id let him loose and wait for him to come back, rabbits, hares and feather he brought back,if he came back empty handed and wanted you to follow it was a fox or venison, never had one as good since. Its something you cant really teach a dog,its a case of letting them loose and seeing if they take to it.
  15. Now 2-3 miles on average,a few years ago we used to get dropped off 18 miles away and lamp back home, drive back and pick up cache,s day after.
  16. Ive never had a problem finding decent land, probably because i got out and looked, when i got fed up of the hassle and dramas of poaching i got out knocking, poached inbetween, until i got the permission i needed, nobody said it was easy, its very, very difficult, but with perseverance it can pay off.I put you on a known good spot vin,i advised you to daytime recce to learn the lie of the land, you did it your way and blanked,i lamped it a few days after and caught 8 in 20 minutes,my mate caught 11.Theres only so much help you can expect off people, the rest is down to you.Happy hunting.
  17. Ivermectin,follow instructions.
  18. Call me cynical but its because of chancers like that that i won,t post pictures of my dogs.
  19. Ive had this type of lurcher since early ,s,tried others with varying degrees of success, went back to what served me well,it did take me a couple of years to sort a suitable stud though.I don,t post photos of my dogs,a certain Mr. Darcy took a photo at Otley last year, without the courtesy of asking, then posted it on a show report,i was,nt pleased.
  20. The biggest mistake people make with Collie bred lurchers is buying pups off parents with no working background, there is no real foundation for future generations in these lines, yet they make up the majority of what is available.Even the well bred dogs are often selective in there work if they dont recieve enough mental stimulation, these dogs thrive on hard relentless graft, they think on their feet and solve problems other types struggle to adapt to.The basis of the best allround lurchers [iMO] is Collie based.I prefer to put Deerhound/Grey in the mix, these two crosses seem to bring the best o
  21. Many, many years ago i had a little whippet bitch, decent on rabbits, had a knack with moorhens, used to work it loose so it pushed up an hare or 3,used to try its best but very rarely connected.
  22. I cannot see the point in the cross,a working type Beddy will work cover as well as anything else, there is the problem of the Beddy going to ground,if that will be a problem then id go with a springer.
  23. Sometimes peoples circumstances dictate the need to buy a ready made dog and they will pay a premium price to get the right dog,id rather bring on a pup, that way there are no unwanted surprises in store.
  24. I get them on daytime bunny,s first, then take them out with lamp on flat fields with no obsacles,i spend a few nights learning the retrieve in beam getting the young dog used to the light and dark, then i walk about local area letting dog get used to obstacles, gates, walls and fences,in the dark. Its then a case of picking the easiest running land and picking easy runs, squatters preferably,i let the dog have a few easy sessions, gradually staying longer and running more difficult rabbits.
  25. I always keep 2 pups back, mainly to keep each other company and they get a chance to chase and play,it does take longer to train them.Because ive been short on numbers for a couple of seasons i kept 3 back this time, all went smoothly till 5 months until 1 started to be bullied,it started to go backwards in its training so i let it go,its much easier now and far less time consuming.
