  1. For a first time lurcher that will be used for ferreting and ratting id go with something that would be easily trained and quick to learn,a Collie/Greyhound.It may not end up with the catch rate of a Whippet/Greyhound or 3/4 whippet bred dog,but as a first time dog would be easier to learn and learn from.I would,nt be to bothered about missing a few bunny,s that a quicker dog may snap up,the amount you catch should be outweighed by the enjoyment a good dog will give you.
  2. Because its cold and dark outside and the British like something to winge and moan about.
  3. Listening to the news,no British firm tendered a final contract for the job.How can a British firm compete with Korea when you consider the difference in wages, raw material, energy costs and grants from the EU.
  4. A dog that gets out in the field on a regular basis is to me a working dog,i rarely rate a dog on the amount it catches, some dogs only hunt where there is little to catch, others work where the numbers are abundant and therefore should catch more, which is the better dog?.The main thing is giving the mutt some exercise, enjoying the sport and looking at any catch as a bonus and not the main reason for being out and about.
  5. If youve only a small gene pool,or you want to fix the best points of closely related stock, inbreeding is a valuable part of sustaining a good bloodline, only when you carry on inbreeding without the use of an outcross,do genetic problems surface. I aint no expert mate. but surley if your breeding full brother to sister in lurcher or running dogs, not terriers or fighting dogs. There going be a fault in either the dog or the bitch if you breed the brother to sister. then surley your going be twice as much likely to have the fault magnifed more in the pups. There is a chance of faults,s

  7. Inbreeding. Sherlocks in!!!!!!! Its a cross i bear.
  8. I like the ones where the face is covered and a bit later he forgets and shows his mush, who says the education system in this country is totally and utterly Kud.
  9. Relatively easy to cater for, good windproof and dry shelter, decent sized paddock, strong fence.Diet of chopped fruit and vegetables plus dietA pellets.Hand reared birds can become aggresive as they mature, others become aggressive when breeding, nothing to serious.
  10. A question that can never be answered,at least not truthfully.Id hazard a guess that the dog that as come to terms with the most hares will be unbeknown to most lads and will not have any breeding that the majority will recognise.
  11. never seen it in a Beddy or Beddyx, could it be an breeding abnormality that crops up from time to time in all dogs,or something in the mix of the true breeding?.
  12. While your waiting, get off your derriere and go and knock some doors, good luck.
  13. The dog seems to cover the fences with confidence, its been well trained.A dog that cannot navigate obstacles it may encounter in the field,is a dog thats going to come second on a chase. You cannot possibly expect your quarry to only run where it is safe for the mutt to follow and not wanting to risk injury to the dog, keep it on a lead.
  14. ur lucky mate sounds like uv got the right beddy stuff... but i dont think therse a great deal ov real grafting stuff left .. my mate worked that type for years with a tuch ov lakey in um .. crackers thay were brilliant cover dogs n find in holes n draw as well .. he never moved from THE GRANITOR LINE OV BEDDY..n swore by that line .. but even he started finding it hard to find sutable out crosses for his bitches the real grafting stuff ... ATB..B Working type Beddy,s are starting to make a comeback, mine have a touch of fell in them,id steer away from the Granitor line now,to KC influenced.
  15. Sausage, egg and chips,Thick sliced bread and best butter,8 bottles of Taylors Landlord and followed by Syrup suet pudding and custard.
  16. The major problem with Beddy,s is that people obtain a K.C. registered type and expect it to turn out into a capable worker, would you buy a K.C. Lakeland or Russel and expect the same from it?.Beddy,s make excellent bushing dogs, mine cover the ground, fences, walls, rivers and streams, faster than the average terrier, face any cover, follow scent with relish, open up in pursuit and find there way back unaided.Ive witnessed numerous bushing type dogs of differing parentage and they all do an excellent job in the field,so there is no right and wrong cross,Beddy,s for me though.
  17. If thats how it happened i don,t think he would have got away with it.
  18. Most terriers and terrier x,s will train up as bushing dogs,i personally use Bedlingtons and a Lakey type.I find the Beddy,s more suited as they are more vocal and cover the ground better. The trouble with terrier types is that sooner or later they will enter, therefore you need to be prepared, locator collars and a good knowledge of the lie of the land.I cannot see the point in having a bushing dog that will not enter and hopefully flush as part of a legitimate day in the field.
  19. may be so ? once they are mature they take some beeting they dont take some beating stop filling heads with shite.why say that fkn bullshitter. Now,now S32,mummys calling, time for beddy byes.
  20. i had a dhxgh x colliexgh he was 29" he could catch bunnys as good as or if not better than most of the smaller dogs in my opinion size doe's not matter on rabbits if the dog wants the rabbit bad enuff it will find a way to get down to it Thats absolute bullshit. Dan i follow a lot of your threads and you seem to know the game,on this one you are way off the mark, ive witnessed a 34" 3/4 Deerhound/Grey picking rabbits up regularly,im not saying it was the best on bunny,s but he caught more than his share. The dog of Gafers made easy work of bunny,s,fact, the brother to it,30",made easy wo
  21. When running on plough i used to go by "the rule of the wellie",if you could walk the plough and still keep your boots on,then the mutts had a gallop.
