Speed kills,grinders fill the freezer?.
-
As always pics that say far more than words, smart.
-
Whilst waiting for somebody to come forward just get the mutts out and about, they soon get the gist if given the opportunity, good luck.
-
You are making the major mistake of looking for a combination of mutts that rocks your boat, the whippet/deerhound combo in the mix will throw the litter and its hunting potential askew.Source a lurcher/lurcher bred pup from reliable stock that will suit the ground you work and your hunting lifestyle, nothing else should ever come into the equation.
-
Its handy to be able to direct the bushers at times, certain areas and cover are the domain of less desirables.
-
lol yep I'll agree its a fact that a hound does have better scenting abilities than a terrier , otherwise you'd have century's of men in red coats riding horses with packs of terriers Many a terrier of old was expected to hunt for and with, plus follow the hounds until needed, something some re-create now with lurchers, minus hounds, mind you a lot of hound lads still utilise terriers to their best advantage, bushing, flushing and bolting.
-
18 months old may hold the clue, the same mutts in a more experienced kennel, with another season under them,be the type of dog that yanks your pony.
-
i don't think there would be many dogs out there that could do 7 nights a week especially on its own with out being too sore(well I know mine wouldn't be able to do it they would be laid up for a while)unless your running Bunnys. Running Bunnys only, night after night, will test the character and physicality of the finest bred mutt.

Scent is an enigma in itself, but if i had 2 seasoned terriers learning lessons off a 6 month old id be less than enamoured with 2 of my mutts. There are bushing terriers and terriers that scare stuff by entering cover,a bushing terrier will hold scent as good as anything out there, some better than others.

Dam Or Sire What Has More Influence On Pups ?
morton replied to whitefeet4190's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Is it not the case that the female chromosone plays a more significant influence on breeding than the male?.Whether thats the scientific case or not ive found that the traits from the dam are paramount in any breeding. The reality is any offspring will only ever be as good as the Dam and Sire, take a shortcut with either and its wasted breeding. -
Poor lad,i hope you have plenty of brass and a strong belt on your trews.

Terriers can get through the tightest of cover, they can hunt and flush as good as any Beagle,Spaniel etc. and get through the tighter spots more quickly, plus, all important to me,they can follow a fox below and persuade him to vacate his lair, which the others cannot. Some don,t want a busher to go to ground, with all the headaches that can then ensue,if thats the case i would,nt own a bushing terrier.

When Charlie boy was still a legit part of the days activities and we were out and about trying to find the crafty blighter, the dogs were mainly hunted at liberty, thus a fox that jumped up took his chances, which he often did whilst making his escape,to be hunted anew at another opportune moment, thats what hunting was about. Now its single handed this and that bollox, how the owner and dog can get a REP.,often based on the flimsiest of foundation,a dog as to look smashed so as to look the part,id rather have a dog that had no need to get smashed and still despatched his fox, what a dinosaur i am.I

Everything will need a very serious deep, deep and thorough clean with a suitable cleaning agents,id use at least 2 different sorts, clean once and then again.Id leave it then for at least 6 months before getting a pup, with a few more cleans whilst waiting.Jabbing the pup will never give it a guaranteed barrier against parvo,at best it will give 50/50.

Ive little interest in having a busher and expecting it to catch,to me that is never their purpose, they are there to push the tightest of cover,at speed, flushing to the runners or gun.If i only had one it would have to be a Bedlington, any terrier type will bush to a standard its educated to,Beddy,s,to me,have the edge when it comes to versatility, covering the ground and obstacles and drawing the least attention to the owners activities.
-
You might be in the wrong section then.It amazes me that mainly non-working KC type Beddys are often used in lurcher production, hybrid vigour then as an habit of creating outstanding grafters from non grafting stock.
-
It should never enter the breeding pool then,to much dross bred and called Bedlingtons when they are only suitable for chasing ribbons. If a proper working Bedlington cannot be sourced then use something else over the bitch,id much rather own a working half cross than a full bred back fill.

The realism of life is that lurcher owners are at times the scum of the earth, these same scum care little if an house, shed or garage is emptied of its contents,a dog stolen is of little importance to them, the financial reward is paramount,or the chance to own a jukel they are incapable of training up themselves, why buy an expensive mutt, nurture and educate it,when its easier to thieve one and take advantage of anothers misfortunate loss.Alas these same scum have an habit of keeping the same company, thus a code of silence thats best broken by a severe lesson in manners.

same here lamping myself, but I'd say there a lot more easier day time while being flushed under a lot more pressure an panic in to a direction off a gun or dogs..PREBAN Daytime they can soon evade the most persistent chaser, they have an habit of using the terrain to their best advantage,in the beam, especially with the assistance of a 4x4 they are at a major disadvantage, lamping was used to make the numbers up that the daytime walkers never could.
-
sorry but thats bollocks They where easy to find, easy to shift from below and where easily dealt with by the average lurcher,a good lurcher minced em.The terrain they inhabited was the biggest influence on the ones that used to run again.

Large Reward! Dogs Stolen From Rspca
morton replied to Reece Welsh's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
As soon as you sink to the level of calling people,or organisations,Paedo,s or abusers, then the argument is lost and you sink to the same depths that the rspca and such like organisations gain the majority of their ignorant and gullible audience from. They certainly have informers though. -
I Was Thinking Of Making A Lurcher Bussiness Selling Stuff

If you said that to Bronson a sore botty would be the least of your problems,Branson like,s to portray his virginity?. -
Ive owned and worked ferrets for a year or two, about 6 years ago a mucker gave me a true Poley hybrid, the thing was lightning fast,i learnt to use it in big warrens,as its speed and stamina suited the work the big spots warranted,in walls and small hods the thing killed in seconds, when it came out of a wall or warren you had to sprint to catch it up.They are out there and are a serious piece of kit,the genuine ones, alas the one i had lost its tail to an enthusiastic Beddy pup dragging a bunny out of a wall, then died a few days later.I bred some kits from it,none of them had the gills work ethi

I Was Thinking Of Making A Lurcher Bussiness Selling Stuff
morton replied to huntingman13's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you can design a Coursing cap and Armchair that will fit the noggin and ego of the Saluki afficienado,s on here, you will become a millionaire. -
if he was any good he would have been down it In a lot of cases id agree, yet some terriers mature more slowly than others and a dog that shows no interest to enter, especially if its un-educated,will thrive a few months down the line. The best fox dog i have here now showed little interest in earth work until it was 2 1/2 years old,a lot of people said to get rid before it was 2 years old,im glad i trusted my insticts, ive a Lakey here that was bolting fox,s at 12 months.Bedlingtons have an habit of being late developers, move the dog slowly along, give it every opportunity to develop and do
