  1. I know of a certain Lady who had never fired a shot from any type of gun in her life. The first time she ever did was with Davy's .22 HW97KT Synthetic model. With a bit of instruction from Davy and me and a few shots later, she was knocking 2p pieces off a target board top at 35 yards! That is how good a rifle these are for a novice to get into decent shooting with encouraging results. And to be fair, she has a natural aptitude for shooting too. But there was the proof of what a fine rifle the HW97 is for anyone to begin properly training and develloping with. The best spring rifle of all
  2. Very nice Archie. Well done mate. Nice appealing girlie this week by the way Archie and very pretty. Always a pleasure of seeing and reading you posts! Best regards. Simon
  3. I know what you mean Mac when the Devil's in the driving seat and a bill's got to be paid. I know what that is like to have to sell something precious like a treasured rifle to pay my way. I've done it myself. But, we try to get on and make the most with what we have. This pathetically ridiculous "Bedroom Tax" is going to hit a lot of folk hard.... In all honesty Mac the HW80K is a superb rifle for a young lad to grow up with. For a little extra heft that makes no great difference than an HW95, he'll really get to grips with handling and develloping himself into a shooter in his own right
  4. I adore my HW spring rifles, God knows I must have bored some of you lads enough with banging on about them before now. But I have a TX200HC .177 that's in a class of its own and that, like my HW rifles, is never going to be sold! Simon
  5. That is a beautiful little rifle you have Elliott. Sweet bolt action and really effective silencer for a 17HMR. Looking forward to more footage of you long-range shooting with this. Best wishes mate. Simon
  6. As with Andy. GEM. By the look of it. Christ it's rough! Looks like it's been in a fire!
  7. This is a personal experience. I once shot a rabbit clean through the sockets of both eyes with an FAC .177 TX200 and that shot didn't kill it. I shot another clean through both ear lobes with the same rifle and that didn't kill that one outright either. In both cases, I had the rabbits brains set perfectly in the scope...and they moved just as I fired! It sent the poor things screaming in circles! With a .177 rifle you either hit the brain and kill it outright. OR, hit it anywhere else in the head and the chances are it will suffer. As for body shots, it's the same thing with .177. Wi
  8. Could be worse. I'm sure I once saw a heavy great earth-mover vehicle called an HW80
  9. Both calibres are proven beyond question. I'm one of those happy chappies that can hit and clean kill a rabbit through its head at 60+ metre ranges and longer with my sub 12-ft/lb .22 HW77 and over 100 with FAC .22 HW80. I also shoot .177 equally well. If you enjoy what you have and can shoot with proficient accuracy, it doesn't matter as long as you shoot with precision and respect for the painless, humane despatch of the animal your hunting. You quarry is not complaining about your calibre choices! Pianoman
  10. You know Phil, I'm genuinely sorry for what you've been put through mate. I was nibbling away with the idea of buying a .177 prosport to add to a left-hand custom stock. This will not be now. Certainly not with a brand new one. When a lad has only the funds for one decent rifle, his choices are crucial. The Prosport should have had you walking on air but, no. Not bloody good enough for you laddie! For all the beautiful woods and prima donna looks these have, they count for bugger all when the alloy metalwork is destroying itself with normal, prescribed use. Presumably you would have carr
  11. A man after my own heart here. Each to his own but synthetics and cammo are not my personal taste. Give me fine grained woods and slim, traditional sporting stocks like Bavarian and Tyrolean every time. It's what I'm used to Fry. I like the KT stock in principle, it's got a lovely handling fore-end but the rake of its pistol grip is too steep. But, thanks to Elliott's kindness in giving me his Mk.I HW77 stock and after a bit of judicious filing and sanding a left-handed palmswell out of the right-handed stock, I have the near perfect traditional Bavarian sporter stock and shallow-swept gr
  12. Thinking of all the good sense here in the replies, I still wouldn't have my HW77 upped in power. It's as sweet as a nut and as accurate as a rifle can be. It hits a rabbit's head dead on the dot at 50 metres or 50 feet and I love it to death. I would do anything to to upset that level of accuracy with a lot more recoil to control and manage.
  13. Keep practicing and keep letting us all know how you are getting young man! Blade1of1 that was a very kind thing to do there mate. very kind of you. I'm sure our little hunter here feels very grateful to you Simon/Pianoman
  14. I've always sung this rifle's praises. Now you can see why. You got an absolute bargain here for £110 webster. Enjoy it mate and keep her in fine fettle and you'll be amazed what this rifle can do! Spend decent money for decent glassware and it'll reward you better than you'd expect! Simon
  15. Acuspell that statement is precisely the way of things today. The standards of education and incompetent Government policy-making in education has caused this situation. It has now produced a generation of parents who haven't a bloody clue as to their moral duties to their children's guidances and upbringing. There is no guiding moral compass at home nor at school. I've seen people that shouldn't be allowed to have pets let alone kids! It's a national tragedy as much a disgrace. it seems a certain number of young people have an utterly nihilistic view that destroying something and depriving
  16. I've never owned a PCP and I never will. They are not for me. I was raised on spring rifles and they are what I understand and shoot with best. Any one of my rifles will take out rabbits rats and pigeons in numbers in my hands and I'm delighted with what I have to go shooting with. But, knowing that the HW100 is a truly accurate and fine quality PCP, I'd advise you find out where you are coming unstuck with it and put it right. I agree with the good advices you are getting here that, if you sell it, you'll regret it webster. And there should be a PCP in a shooter's armoury. (...Just not mi
  17. I agree with your thought there Cliff. There are too many IDIOTS around as it is. The idea of that lot getting their hands on high powered air rifles is frightening! Simon
  18. Hunting air rifles should be set at around 20 ft ilbs as a legal maximum, especially for .22; with tuning or factory setting to wherever a particular rifle performs to its very best within this limit. Not all spring rifles will suit a higher power setting. And there should be written proof of access to a suitable permission, membership of a club or shooting ground as a requirement to purchase an aie rifle at this level at least.. As it is, a legal 11.5 is sweet for any air air rifle and I don't want to see a drop from the 12ft/lb limit. I do not agree that 10ft/lbs is enough for longer range
  19. Just to go back to Skot and left hand TX200HC and rifle. Skot, these two have been made in L/H versions since they were launched. I've got a .177 TX200HC MkIII with left hand loading port and in a stunningly sweet walnut left hand factory stock. I sold another to fund my HW97KT It's the Pro Sport that's off the menu for us lefties!
  20. Thanks Ant64. I've had a try with a batch of these Daystate Li's courtesy of Elliott here and they are really good for the HW77 I have. Very kind of you to say all the same, thank you! simon
