  1. A very, very long time in my experience darlo. So don't worry!
  2. Hi Fatman252 (you ex RAF by any chance?) I'm no expert on fibreglass and certainly never heard of a riflestock made from it, fella. I cannot think of anyone who might have experience of this. Fibreglass is not perhaps ideal material? It seems too rigid a material against the metalwork of the rifle? It lacks elasticity of synthetic plastics and it certainly won't be as flexible and absorbing as wood when temperature changes from the cold of a winter's day to warm or hot indoors and causes the metals to expand and contract. Given that fibreglass has been around for many years now a
  3. Hmm now if I was your Business advisor....You do not need to give Davy a large lump sum. You set up a partnership with a title (Name of Company) and use a singular amount of cash to buy premises and land under the name of your partnership. You agree all expenditures, liabilities insurances and dividends as a company formed between yourselves. You then register your business as a charitable trust and claim tax relief as such. It would be a great place, you two would set up... Just in case you actually win this!
  4. Well...maybe I was being unkind to the good lads who prefer their PCPs in the light of the outrageous anecdotes I read from Phil and Craig. But honestly, have you ever heard such rubbish as banning lads with springers from a shooting ground....Feckin spazzer! FAC HW80, Diana 52 or 54 Airking. Now we're talking recoil management! Brilliant guns on ticket these!!
  5. Elitism from PCP owners Phil?. Look as far as I'm concerned, PCPs were invented to give accuracy to people who have none. That is a painful truth. Or why can't your average PCP-only shooter hit a barn door with any other rifle type? Apart from armourers and techies, who the f**k else would put a rifle in a friggin' vice to shoot it from?? Presumably so he can see what a one-hole group looks like? They're like a crutch . Nowt else. They help a person walk where legs alone are not up to the task. I hate the fooking things even more after reading these posts. And as for that twat a
  6. Oooh this is lovely! The HW35 Export was my first Weihrauch Si. You'll love this one. They were very accurate, nice handling air rifles. The only thing wrong with them....was the HW80 overshadowed the 35E when that one came out. That's all. It has played a sort of Cinderella role in Weihrauch's range ever since. But they were always a superb air rifle. I bet you anything there won't be anything wrong with this one. But you'll get it tuned by Tony. It doesn't need it. But you'll do it because you'll want that extra refinement to bring out it's accuracy potential. And it's got bags of i
  7. You need to get yourself fixed up with a shotgun licence and a nice double barrel or semi auto 12 bore. Or apply for a Firearms Certificate from your Police FO and then, get yourself a nice bolt action .22LR or .223 rifle for foxes mate. I believe it is illegal to hunt and shoot foxes with just a legal-limit air rifle. Fox shooting is a no-no for air rifles fella!
  8. They aren't up to much dedger mate. Good power built into monkey metal. Gamo rifles are generally built from cheap materials and don't last. They are really fit only for garden plinking. If you can up your budget a bit more and look around, you can fix yourself up with a lovely old Weihrauch HW80 or HW77 that'll knock spots off any Gamo any day.
  9. I've not had any real trouble with .177 Air Arms Fields Craig, or the .22 versions. The skirts are quite thin and I've found a few bent ones though. But not so many that want to make me chuck the whole tin away. But, there have been quality issues with Air arms pellets in both calibres in recent months so, try JSB Exacts in the same head size and weight your rifle is compatable with. Simon
  10. Two perfect answers there Gentlemen. There you go Chris!
  11. Hello there craigymac. You make no mention of any previous shooting experience or know-how. If you are a beginner, I'd suggest a quality spring rifle to learn the craft of shooting properly, from the ground floor up; and this will provide you with a rifle that will enable you to grow and develope your shooting without outgrowing or outshooting it and having to change to something better. For that, go for; WEIHRAUCH HW80. WEIHRAUCH HW97K. WEIHRAUCH HW77. WEIHRAUCH HW95. AIR ARMS PROSPORT AIR ARMS TX200 SERIES. DIANA 52 SIDELEVER DIANA 54 AIRKING. These are among the very
  12. Aye! Lovely Andy. How about yours? Will the boys be with us or is it just us two?
  13. Welcome to the section here Pestsniper! You'll be fine with .177 but, given the higher power you are allowed in the US, .22 would be the one I'd go for, judging by what you American fellows have by way of vermin/varmints. But, then again, .177 at FAC level performance is superb enough. Best wishes and welcome aboard. Simon
  14. My webbing pack stuffed with a blanket and a groundsheet to lie snugly on. And my beany seat bag which I use as a very comfortable rest and support for shooting my spring rifles from prone position hides around my permission. And foot lengths of cut string in my jacket pocket to tie up the hind legs of shot rabbits to make carrying them easier. And a bloody good tuckshop of sandwiches, cheese, pasty, bit of chocolate and a bottle of "Lancaster Bomber" or Stella Artois Cidre; opened, courtesy of a Swiss Army knife with a bottle opener on it to accompany it! Ahh the bliss of shooting r
  15. There is a whole load of stuff I know from my service days about ignition pressures in cartridges and the effect of barrel lengths with cartridge rounds Andy. But I've edited it all out as it really has little relavance here. There is a good reason why FAC PCPs employ longer barrel lengths but in all honesty, I cannot see a 30+Ft/lb charge of air creating the type of gas-vacuum ignition pressures inside the barrel that an explosive cartridge produces in its breech and uses to propel itself through the air. Simon
  16. Andy's post describes very well the effects of air charged into a rifle pellet propelling it down the barrel. it rests mainly with the efficiency of the pellet to grip onto the accurate lands of the rifling in the first instants of firing along 5-8 inches of barrel, that counts. As Andy says, the time it sorts its shit out! Air rifle and pellet makers have achieved a very sweet and efficient marriage of pellet weights and barrel accuracies within cosmetically appealing barrel lengths this last thirty years and more. Rather than specific lengths scientifically evolved and arrived at. If it wer
  17. AndyFR1968 says "Skot!! Simon!! Stop being gay and get out there I've had some really good days out this past few weeks and even my boys have coped with the cold (ish...) weather :victory:" Well Mr Action Poof I have been out with the HW80 and 77 and been out for a good mooch in the woods and it's been a great hunt for the odd squirrel and pigeons. Only seen one rabbit so far. I just like warmer weather.... Yeah I'm gay, I admit it! Oooh by the way. Had phone call from Tony Wall at Sandwell Field Sports. He's just waiting for the new heads to arrive and he'll be sending t
  18. Cheers Skot. I haven't received the tuning kit Tony Wall is making for me yet. He's doing the lathe work and basically honing and matching everything up to the spring. As soon as it gets here, it's over to Andy's and then, as soon as he's done his work on the HW97KT, it'll be out and running-in! The rifle ain't so bad. It's really angered me that Weihrauch have really begun to let their standards slip and this 97KT of mine NEEDS refinement to get it shooting as it should from the factory! Poorly cut and deburred springs, swarf in the internals. That's bloody third world crap! Howe
  19. I think it is a bit longer in the barrel than the old Scirroco was. Generally, an FAC rifle has a longer barrel. Adds a bit more spin stability to the pellet though this is by no means a set-in-stone rule of ballistics. FAC PCPs certainly seem to come with longer barrels.
  20. Hi there. Put another, reliable scope on the rifle and see if the same thing happens. If it does, your rifle barrel is off true. If not, you have a faulty scope. See if you can get it changed for new under the warranty. All the best for it. Pianoman
  21. There you go. Nothing wrong with that! Nice one optelic2! I tried .22 H&NFTT with mine, but, it just 'shotgunned' these all over the target. Bisley Magnums were the only pellets it could get hunting level accuracy with. It does seem these rifles perform better with heavyweight rounds like the bigger .25 calibre and a reasonable drop in power to around 20-25 ft/lbs max. I reckon it would be a much better rifle at around these performance levels. And a Simmons Pro Air. Great scopes for FAC spring and gasram these. I have a 6-18X40 Simmons Pro Air and a Simmons Whitetail Classic 4.5-14x
  22. You are welcome openseason. The Eliminator could well be a very expensive mistake. But by all means give it a fair try at least and see for yourself. But, as Andy here says, they are not all they're cracked up to be. Diana air rifles are truly superb at FAC levels of output. I quite like the idea of a .177 54 Airking on my ticket. That would make a superb all-round sporting rifle with its near-recoiless sledge action. But, my 15 year old HW80 .22 hits like a sledgehammer, is as accurate as it gets and is sweet as a nut. So, I'll be sticking with my dear old workhorse '80 when the Mink st
  23. Aww Thank you most kindly Ethan. Now you just watch and take-in everything Grandad tells you, and you won't go wrong, little mate, he really knows his stuff where shooting's concerned! I'm looking forward to reading more about your adventures together. Best wishes Ethan. Simon/Pianoman
