Just back at Helen's after a beer with Davy and Chas. Modesty forbids me from revealing the final scores in the spring rifle friendly, but, all will be revealed in due course .. and it was a close-run thing. For my close mate Andy who tuned my HW97. ..Top job mate! The rifle is a beauty to shoot! Great day with great lads and seriously top spring rifle shooting from all. And as has been said before, it's nice to meet the lads behind the avatars, and see how different they are from how we imagine each other to look! Can't wait to meet up again and shoot with you all again. B

And don't worry Aaron. This is my first time out with my HW97 over an HFT course and my ammo isn't properly sorted-just washed. So I'll probably get outshot by everyone else. ... just this once!! Come on and get stuck in mate! Simon

Fantastic. Really looking forward to seeing some of you for the first time. Here's to great shooting over a great course with you fine gentlemen. And mayhap a pint or few after to wash away the dust of battle. Compliments to all. Simon

I am now at Helens and have the HW 97 with me. Up for a shoot on Sunday at Old downs shooting ground. Computer down, so using Helens mobile phone. Respond here, will pick up a time to meet. Hope to see you and a few of the lads there. Best wishes, Simon

I'd say this was pretty poor for the range they were shot from. From what I gather here, the one hit in the blue disc was by default? Not good. If it was my group I'd need a serious review of what I'm shooting with. You should have your ammo grouped sweet inside the blue disc before you can reasonably take it out to the hunting field.

1.Bowl of warm water, Fairy Liquid, foamy froth, tip whole tin in, swirl gently for a good few minutes and pour out through a sieve. 2. Rinse in clean water under tap. 3. Repeat parts 1 & 2 till your ammo is absolutely clean. You'll see the swarf and dirt in the bottom of the bowl! 'Wouldn't want that muck gunged up with lube-up gunk down your barrel, eh laddie!

I've been lubing H&N FTT pellets with a thin coating of WD40 for many years and they are superbly accurate Craig. You don't totally wet them in the stuff or you have dieselling of course. But a light coat and I've had great performance. It works well mate, really. I know Si likes to lube his ammo with it too. Yeah why not? Not used much just a light coating

Cheers Elliott. And that type of wood-stain would be really helpful mate. The stock is handling absolutely lovely now. But I need to hide and blend the reshaping of the grip I've done. She definitely loves an 8.64 grain, 4.50mm head-sized diablo pellet. Show me one in these regards and I'm all for trying it. Best wishes Elliott. Simon

What Is Your You Opinion ?
pianoman replied to roosika's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
A good tuning kit for a TX200 is.... .......The rifle itself. it shouldn't need one....unless there is something radically wrong. And that would need more than a tuning kit! -
Restoring A Rather Negelcted Hw80
pianoman replied to thursodog's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I've just looked at the photos again and, when you look at the sheer neglect, filth and general shabby state of the metals, to be emeried, smoothed, cleaned and refinished before bluing and polishing, I'm just awe-struck! it just takes your breath away what all that craft and care has wrought forth, I'll never put cammo tape on a barrel that's for sure! That Bushnell Legend scope is a fitting topping-out for her too. I bet she shoots as smooth as a rifle can now, eh! All the very best of shooting with it Chris, you deserve it with this beautiful job mate. Simon -
I'm sorry Thoreau, did I say these were producing poor groups? They are the pellet of choice because the groups are as accurate as it gets When these H&N FTTs are fine and as they should be, they are absolutely blistering accurate. It's the odd inconsistency of a few pellets in the batch that produces fliers. Weighing and careful checking should sort that problem out. I tried JSB EXACT as well as quite a few of the popular brands that have a good history with Weihrauch barrels. RWS SUPERFIELD. RWS SUPERDOMES. AIR ARMS DIABLO FIELD 4.52 AIR ARMS DIABLO FIELD 4.51. Thank you so kindly Chris. Very kind of you to say mate Tony Wall's kits and his handiwork are a great way to go, certainly for Weihrauch spring rifles. Andy who did the installation and fettle-work reckons these kits are really nice and the quality of everything he does and supplies is top drawer. When you settle yourself down, with the scope set dead on a single .177 pellet hole 45 metres away and you press off a shot that goes straight clean through it again...and again...you know all's going on well between you and your rifle. I don't know as to what else Tony Wall does when he's

Thank you for the kind responses fellas Si. Alas no mate I won't be down to Helen's just yet . Very busy preparing new work; and organizing framing and published prints for RAF Waddington and Flying Legends airshows. I'll give you and Davy a shout when I can get away. It'll be lovely to meet up again. Weighing and sorting ammo Phil. It certainly looks like it's going to be a necessary job for this rifle. In competition shooting they have to perfectly "cloned" almost! it is the difference between 2 points for knocking down the target with a clean shot on the aiming point disc, or, one po

Gentlemen. Well, after a long wait and much gnashing of teeth while away for business, I have been able to get out and shoot a thorough field-target test with my HW97K .177 rifle with the Tony Wall/Sandwell tuning kit that Andy here installed for me. Let me say right off. What an astonishingly accurate rifle this is now turning out to be. No twanging, no mechanical graunching on cocking. After tweaking the trigger to a perfectly sweet, predictable let-off, this rifle is running-in superbly. And a delight to shoulder and handle with the HW77 stock Elliott gave me for it. The scope

After what I have just shelled out on my car, this is. alas, beyond my pocket right now.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Crook. A very happy anniversary to you both. Warmest regards. Simon and Helen.

Restoring A Rather Negelcted Hw80
pianoman replied to thursodog's topic in General Airgun Discussion
A once fine and accurate air rifle, restored from the depths of neglect and rot, to emerge as good as the day it was built. This is just magic. Pure magic. Just look at the care, patience and skillful know-how that goes into this kind of restoration. Chris you know how much I am in long-held awe of your skills as a craftsman gunsmith but this has elevated my respect even higher. The fantastic thing about this forum, is that, it brings to light the kind of craftsmanship and skilled gunsmithing that is one of the finest arts of shooting. Chris here is just a superb master of the art. It -
Good Tuning Kit For A Aa Tx200?
pianoman replied to roosika's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
TX200s are not much at higher power. They are designed to be at their sweet and smooth best at sub-12 ft/lbs. If you have an FAC and want to put an air rifle on it, the best thing is to buy an HW80 and have it Titan tuned. No better spring rifle at FAC level power in my experience. The only advantage in FAC power air is that you shoot to the same ranges as sub-12. It just gets the pellet to the target faster. Do not make the mistake in thinking 20+ft/lbs will instantly enable you to achieve phenominal marksmanship at 100 yards because it won't! You will have a higher level of recoi -
Now if that's not practical skill and craftsmanship at work. That is remarkable.....Amazes me, the things you can do for your rifles Chris.
