  1. Aww we can't be having that Elliott. Mind you it's blowing like hell here so, I'm not getting a shot fired myself right now. It was so kind of you to do this for me mate. Thank you again Elliott and we'll make a date to meet up and shoot when the weather is a lot kinder. And I really hope the bad weather isn't causing further problems for you and the family at your cottage mate. Sincere warmest regards. Simon
  2. Aww Thanks Roger. And thanks too Tom, Fieldsports, Wurz, Si and webster for your kind words lads . The rifle is a nice set-up and has the makings of a great one indeed to be proud of Tom. I had an initial shoot with it in the '77 stock when Andy was over weekending with us and it's proving very accurate but, it's snapping a bit harshly on firing and an earlier chrono reading when I was last at Davy's showed it to be running a little hot! Andy will soon have these bugs ironed out and running nice, smooth as you like and properly, as it ought to be. I reckon it will be a razor-accurate
  3. Makes me wonder if there's a business for a lad with a white van who will deliver complete sporting arms and air rifles to/from anywhere? Well, the Royal Mail aren't interested are they!
  4. Hi Mac. Great thread mate and pics too. You'll not regret getting you SGC as long as you're cool with the police coming to check your home security (every 5 years here). You'll soon learn cadence and swing-through better, it just takes a bit of getting used to shooting on a moving target, using a moving swing to fire and keep on the swing as a follow through. You'll really enjoy using it on flighting pigeons mate. All the best with you venture here Mac. Simon
  5. Gentlemen. This post is overdue but, needs to be shown to everyone. Because, in the light of too many threads pointing fingers at the all-too frequently mentioned Graham scum (which, to be honest, is getting infuriating!) I know two lads here who are two of life's true gentlemen. and something should said to commend them. I bought an HW97KT .177 just before Christmas as a potential target and competition rifle. However, I have a reservation about the thumbhole stock. Nothing wrong with it at all, great hunting and general purpose stock. But I wanted a slimmer, lighter stock to impro
  6. Thanks Simon, I didnt know i looked that young Present company excepted Si old chum!
  7. Take it back to them smecky and demand they detune it to 11.5 or thereabouts. Pete was absolutely correct in what he said mate. They have actually broken the law in a major way and a word to the police would bring them up before a criminal court, bloody sharp!
  8. Walk away Craig. You can buy a new HW95 for £300 or less. And there are decent scopes about for less than eighty quid nowadays. This one you've been offered is tampered-with and probably next to useless with an Ox spring. You'll need to spend good money to get it back to where it ought to be. Good advices here. Heed the warnings mate. Pianoman.
  9. You might need to fill that with a wood filler Hudson. A See your local B&Q, Wickes etc. Works a bit like a car body repair filler. Fill the chip proud. Let dry. Sand it to shape as you work on the rest of the stock. Stain and blend. Job done. Alternatively, ask a French Polisher who repairs dings and chips in furniture for his advice. He would probably use a wood filler and will let you know what would be the best to use. ATB. Pianoman
  10. Come on Craig, give us a clue laddie! How much would you pay for something you cannot see, have no accurate description of condition. No description of scope specs, no mention of calibre??? Simon.
  11. Have to say I agree with Chris/pipa, I love the SR12 reticle Hawke have for my HW77. I have a Hawke Panorama EV IR 4-12x50 mildot on my HW97KT and it's a beauty. The only reservation I have about Hawke is they do not seem to last as long as Simmons or Bushnell on my spring rifles. Lovely scopes for the money, but, somehow, they seem just not that tough and long lasting. And I really, REALLY look after and cherish my rifles, scopes kit with pedantic TLC!
  12. HW77. HW80 or HW80K .22 That's what you want Porky if it's to be £200 for second hand mate. Man's guns that will piss all over a PCP! Anything else is for noodle armed poofters and children under 16. Pianoman!
  13. John Darling wrote for Airgun World at a time where his personal views and honest opinions,- the result of his actual experiences, made him a great example to follow and emulate. He wrote about air rifle hunting as it was experienced by him and his Weihrauch HW35E and later HW80K .22. He didn't go mooching off with some other rifle to write bullshit about. Just good honest facts about how to hunt rabbits and pigeons around his farmland shoots with his trusted rifles through the change of the seasons. That always made a great read. There was a couple of lads who followed JD for a brief spe
  14. Charming! Really nice coming from a Brazillian - who lives in country where the solution to the problems of homeless, unwanted, abandoned feral children ruining developing, affluent areas is to cull them by hunting them out to be beaten and shot dead by their own police!
  15. Hope you had a great afternoon chaps. Think of us poor buggers, your fellow shooters and pals working this windswept rainy Monday!
  16. These movies I watch more than others. THE DAMBUSTERS. THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN. PATTON. ZULU. THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE. THE LEGEND OF 1900. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.
  17. Moxy you are a legend man! I've got tears rolling down my eyes with laughing at what you give to poor old Phil! I need a giggle-pee!
  18. I can appreciate that thought Miles, but it is more of a nicety than a necessity with top drawer spring rifles. TX200 and Prosports certainly don't need tuning. Weihrauch are fine out of the box. But tuning turns their performances into sweeter, smoother actions and it does improve their accuracy as the effects of vibration and recoil are refined and lessened. You really have to try shooting one to see how it benefits. ATB Simon
  19. Yeah but Mike, that's because they are worth it mate!
  20. Hi Tony. I can think an auto repair shop would help you well there. They deal with scuffs and scratches on vinyl bumpers and trim so they'll know how to deal with something like this surely? All the best. Simon
  21. Stuart. Barnze. Thank you kindly gentlemen. There is still, a widely held misconception that PCPs are more accurate than spring rifles and this is really not true. PCPs are the easier of the two actions to achieve very accurate shooting but, thanks to their recoiless and vibration-free firing, they have virtually reduced the shooter to almost a supportive aim-and-fire functionary, with all his/her basic errors and mistakes in hold technique largely removed from the process. Thus, they will make more of a skilled operator than an honestly skilful marksman out of the shooter. The spring
  22. Righto, there's half your problem answered Pappy. Now use variable-range sessions on your 10xmag to solve the other half! Pianoman
  23. What the bloody hell did we do before computers, i-Phones and bloody Apps! Pappy why don't you just take your rifle and scope and .177 pellet and get out onto your permission and zero it at 30 metres as a starting point? Then shoot a series of targets from 5 to 50 metres on,,,say 6 mag and see where your zero'd shot falls on each. Or start with zeroing at on the maximum mag power of the scope and work through the various mag power settings down to the lowest. That way you will see what is the optimum setting on your scope to calibrate the ladderscale reticle onto your shot trajectory
  24. John's air rifle collection is possibly the best I've seen, at least in pictures. That 1979 model here is just as the one I had in .22 after reading John Darling's exploits with one in Airgun World. Very accurate and a great rifle to shoot. Wish I still had it. I really like the look of that carbine version too. Simon
  25. Ahhh that changes the complexion of this somewhat Si. You should have said earlier mate! Fair play to the lady. You have to respect her need for quiet and not having to see anyone dressed in combats/cammo around with a rifle in his hand wandering about the place. I wouldn't take this personally mate. Simon
