Do the usual thing mate. Soak it all up the first week and suss out who you want to learn off or work with for the other 5. Plenty of lads I know have gone down that route. ?

Yeah we’ve had that on some private jobs Ken. I asked one of them if he had shares in the local steel yard! They are onto things like that. Not so much on finishing and standards though

I’ve been doing some site work recently. Site managers are hardly there. They juggle as many jobs as they can to make the money. If it’s crap weather they will rarely come out and check things. Not sure what it’s like on the bigger sites. Lad I work for checks everything we do so there’s no come back. On the bigger sites the lads have to be quick to make money so the only thing that can give is standards. On the other hand, I have seen people who are getting paid way over the odds but they just don’t care about their quality of work. The quality of some of the new builds both design and constr

How old are the dogs mate? If it’s the first time you have fed raw then it might take a bit for them to get used to. I feed raw but there’s plenty do ok on kibble and scraps. Especially collie types. Not heard of the place in Holyhead but if the chicken has slightly turned then that will go through dogs like water.

Fair play to the lad. It’s harder to find a bitch to stud your dog to than find a stud dog for your bitch. Some are just happy to stud their dog out without seeing the bitch. If you are after a pup out of your dog then it’s a no brainer to see the bitch work. Especially If you know nothing about them. I’ve been asked a few times to stud my busher out. When I’ve asked to go see the bitch work and let them see my dog work, it seems to go quiet! ATB with finding a bitch.

I’ve been out with all the dogs mentioned above. Something I will be looking at in a couple of years for me and my lad for a bit of knocking about. Some form of bushing/mooching dog with a decent splash of whippet. The good thing about these that suites going out with a catty is they don’t scream their heads off when onto something. I’ve got a spaniel terrier who is great for bushing to Lurchers on the ground I run. For a mooch and catty he’s too much. Crashes through everything and barks his head off when right behind everything. You wouldn’t get too many shots in

I was hoping to get a pup out of my busher but the bitch that we had lined up hasn’t come into season. Was gutted. Hope you find something lads.

We don’t ferret so much anymore. Mainly bushing and lamping. The little busher is great around the nets and when ferreting hedges. Hopefully get out a bit more before the season closes

Haven’t been out bolting to the dogs for a while. Went for a couple of hours this morning. My mate brought his ferrets. The busher bolted a few from cover and the ferrets bolted a few. Missed a few but not a bad little bag.

I’ll be looking at something heavily whippet based for my lad in a couple of years. Bit of ferreting and bushing. Something that can also tag along with me on the hill too.

Are you heading out with them D? I normally go for a walk out on Dartmoor early doors Boxing Day and then go and see a local meet. Might try fit in the Monday too!
