If you get a bit of time then try the outlet between Weymouth and Portland. Under the road bridge. Find it better as the tide is ebbing. Few bass in there. The places recommended above are nice places to fish. They will be fairly busy though.
As said, nice looking type that. Before you head out with anyone I’d concentrate more on the training. Get recall spot on and do some retrieve training. Get the dog in with stock. Good luck with it. Keep us updated
I warm them up by giving them a rub. Same with cooling down. My vet has a background in greyhound racing so give me a few tips on warming the toes and a few stretches for the legs. I always walk them in to where I lamp. Bit of a leg stretch and find our bearings. Try get a couple of easier runs first. I’ve used greyhound run in the past after a heavy nights lamping or heavy day on the hill. Seems to keep the ticks and fleas away too.
Had an hour or so off Hopes Nose in the kayak the other day. Used to be a great spot but so over fished now. Didn’t get a single one there. Headed round to towards Torquay and had a couple. Seemed to be having more luck with small pollack. I don’t think you can beat fresh mackerel on the BBQ. Like to chuck the dogs a few too.
Definitely change happening. I agree with the tuna making a dent in the mackerel numbers. I was kayaking from Plymouth in February and lowered a line in. Ended up with 4 mackerel in one hit. Seasons are changing.
Different world up there mate. Only just got back from that area myself. Looks like the kids are enjoying it. Plenty of mackerel about up there and decent pollack.
Loads of bait fish around now. Got the lads casting off a rock mark the other night with some lures. Catch and cook. Had a couple of bass and few pollack. Best thing to get the kids going is a mackerel bashing trip
Unless it’s a really big litter or you are getting the pick then I’d like to think there wouldn’t be too much to choose from. By the time the breeder and possibly the owner of the stud dog takes one. Then you got hunting mates or people that have been waiting for a pup from that particular breeding. Shouldn’t be much left. I prefer it that way. As long as the pups are healthy and been looked after I’m willing to let the misses and kids choose. Just makes life easier ?
I hunt Dartmoor and North Wales. My dogs do fine but I just reckon a hound x type might find a bit better. I’m happy with what I got as I like other types of Lurchers work. I probably hunt the hills a few times a month. If I was on there most days then they would prob be a lot better at what they do.
I like being up the hills and letting the dogs range out. Mine have picked it up ok. If the hills were the only hunting I did then I’d go down the route of a couple of hound or GWP crosses. I still like to lamp so I’ll stick with what I got for now. Would like to see more posts up of hound crosses.
