  1. That feeds four but ones a whippet that hardly needs any and ones an older bitch who gets fat easily. The deerhound cross eats a shit ton of meat fat and bone to make up for it. They like ribcages too, (lamb, deer and goat), as a change from chicken necks and I get pig hearts an kidneys too.
  2. You should have worn your hijab so you'd fit in better ?
  3. chicken necks, an out of date burger and out of date turkey steaks, a kilo of minced scraps, and some beef heart.
  4. I like him. He looks fast for a bull cross, what way's he bred? There's a fair bit of forestry in Laois if I remember right. Can he run through it OK or does he knock himself to bits?
  5. There's no best breed really, just what people prefer. I like 'em collie bred, strongly built, and fast for rabbiting on t6he lamp. That's what I've done best with though I did have a Mick Douglas bred Norfolk that was v. good on rabbits and other stuff too. The norfolk was a long time ago and I've no way to scan in his picture unfortunately.
  6. Neither has anyone else. You should have stuck with the borzoi and pug.
  7. You say some really silly kennelblind things John. We've already agreed that people need different qualities in their dogs for different jobs so how is it " spoiling them" if a person breeds the type of dog THEY need rather than the type of dog YOU want them to have???? Are you some kind of dog facist???? Carry on with your type of dog mate, just don't criticise other people for breeding THEIR type rather than yours.?
  8. And those dogs obviously suit you and that's why you keep them. Fair play to you and anyone else that likes running them. I like collie crosses myself and I've had them all my life but I wouldn't want a reverse threequarter for what I do because it would never get on terms with the game. You want a collie with a bit extra speed but what most lads want IS a fast running dog with slightly more trainability, good hunting instincts, and better feet than most pure running dogs have.
  9. A lot did back then too, at least among those that made their own mind up and went their own way. Didn't Plummers Merle catch a lot of foxes?? It must be true, I read it in a book? I get the feeling that Plummer would get an idea then believe it must be right because he'd thought it. Never mind how high your IQ is you can always be wrong eh?
  10. You'd do better to wait 'til someone chooses parents carefully and breeds a litter for their own use. Having said that, the best collie/grey I've ever had was bred by a greyhound breeder when a good bitch came back from being lined and was covered again by the farm collie. The litter had both pure greyhounds and first crosses. Many good litters will have a touch of some other breed in there and if the parents did what you want then what harm? Good luck with your search anyway, I'm sure something will turn up.
  11. They definately seem worse where there's sheep or sheep and deer. The deer seem to carry a lot if they are on sheep country but often less if there's only deer. I know a few places with a few deer and no sheep and you'de hardly ever pick up any ticks.
  12. I haven't read the whole of this thread but ,like Gnipper, I use bravecto. It's expensive but one treatment kills fleas for at least 3 months and it's the best against ticks and some of the high moorland and forest areas here are infested with ticks. The disgusting feckers even get on me if I don't keep me pants tucked in me socks.
  13. A lot criticise the collie /grey but the right one in the right hands for the right jobs is a proper dog. RIP Tegan.
  14. ..........very true but it is what it is and we'll play out the hand we've got. (or is that a bit cliched?)
  15. I feed the dogs chicken necks, beef hearts, pig hearts, minced trims, lamb ribs etc. but still find myself needing a wank, what should I do... help!!!!
  16. The stupidest thing was keeping the argument going on a public forum. Nine pages. Came on this morning and couldn't believe it was still raging.
  17. Totally agree and also one of the worst things you can do with a big heavy dog is let it run only easy smooth ground like pastureland until a year or so old, then when it's big and keen, let it run something over rocks or woodland. Sure recipe for broken bones.
  18. If the rabbits are thin on the ground then you're probably best waiting 'til the end of summer and hopefully some autumn rain and plenty of young green rabbits about but if you can find anywhere with a good population and runnable ground then I myself would go for it now. It's all commonsense really. You need to use your judgement. If the dog's ready, the ground is good, and you aren't going to dent the population then go for it. If there's any doubt then leave it 'til late autumn.
  19. Looks like a near escape alright. Could've been a lot worse. On the subject of the rabbits, are you finding that the breeding season started later this year? I got that impression here out west.
