I would always go for more of a all rounder, like a pointer I tried having a dedicated blood dog and there isn't the work to keep them game fully employed over here, a wounded deer is a rarity, and one that can't be followed up by a decent stalker also rare I have even had to put my teckle to rabbiting, in order to give the dog a usefull life,

Absolutely spot on, really well done, you are a artist that,s a fact

Victor Softcatch Fox Trap.
3175darren replied to J Darcy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
There are a lot of traps abroad that's worth a look at, there methods work without doubt, but they just wont get passed over here, when you see the colarum work its spot on,a real tool worth investing in,but whats the difference in that and a bait stick spring snare, one that will break off the spring when sprung, the spring only sets the noose as the colarum does, and the bait and location they are set in acts as a filter for non target species, and that's the thing non target species,we really are disadvantaged over here when it comes to trapping, all through public opinion, -

the trouble is the trap would have to be laid open to everything that passes to work,it would not be indiscriminate enough ie small child that kind of thing, but I agree we should always look and consider, new options, -
Aidy its always best, to leave as little sign you were there as possible, but the truth is the mess the mole made in the first place is bad enough, when you lift your traps at the end just make sure you fill the hole to the top and most are fine with that, but its best to turn the sod over when you place a trap, and keep it to one side so its ready to go straight back in its place, when you are done,at the end of the day if you can leave it neat and tidy, they will probably ask you back knowing your standard of work is high, its just the same when digging rabbits,

Well done mate, glad you enjoyed it, -
I heard with the drones they can only fly them over ground where have been given authority to do so, that should be easy to stop, other than that buy a scanner find there frequency and fly the f***er yourself, also if you see it being done, demand a copy of all footage containing your image, but the collection of data all falls under RIPPER which is a night mare act, to negotiate, you could put a sign up at your meeting place, along the lines of no person within this hunt meet, give's any lawful authority to any person outside the hunt membership,to capture images of them, get all the members to s

The thing is you didn't fire, so no harm done, you didn't wise the fox up,so with any luck he will present himself again for you slowly slowly catch the monkey,it will come together,as said above build your confidence at that range maybe try a fox silhouette target, broadside and face on at different ranges then you can see your progress, whatever you do don't take it to heart your natural instinct kicked in, it wasn't right for you at that time and that level of control is what a load more rifle men should have,it is a good trait to have and will pay dividends in the long run,

I know West Yorkshire well if that's truly where you are from, or going to work them, and they would probably do better there than where I am, I can't criticise, the dogs ability nose wise, or even courage and I think if I had tried mine would have gone to ground, but in the field when working with other dogs they don't keep pace, they truly are methodical hunters that miss nothing scent wise, and to hear them sound off in a wood, they are like hounds, I think for our terrain a cross with something a bit longer in the leg would make a world of difference, however for tracking deer they are pe

It seems to vary darker the better agreed, but some times waiting under a tree in a full moon with the wind in your face,or even in a covering of snow, certainly helps with the lamp shy foxes, but I find dark as can be with a moderate wind and a touch of occasional rain in the air, happy happy happy day's :clapper:but then you here of the boys shooting the moon for wildfowl,as to the actual pull of the moon faze itself will probably affect fishing a lot more,

do youThink we will get enough rain, cos I am in real need of some rain up here, all my ponds are dry, and will end up shooting the rivers loads of mallard around but not as many teal as this time last yr,few good skeens of geese too,

What we are forgetting is, people talk about or involvement over there, and yes we may hold some blame for the current void the fanatics are fighting to fill, but forgetting our involvement in Iraq, over the invasion of Kuwait, don't forget the attack on the twin towers,God rest there soles, where a direct attack was made against American civilians, this in its self was an act of war,and enough reason to declare war,but no the brave young men went in after the Taliban, and not directly target anything else, the attacks in London, and other places in the world, that Muslim extremists have attacked in

They knew when they took sadam down they were creating a void, for these idiots to step into, in a way we have some blame for it,the only way to fight these idiots is to use there own rules and standards, and give them there own medicine,as for them going from England to fight for isis, send there families with them, its time for all nations to expel violent and antagonistic religions, out of there countries back to the slums from which they came,

It really makes you wonder if they have a contract with a firm of solicitors,on a no win no fee basis,

I do call when I am out with the rifle at night, but never any other time
-
Why do you need a log number???????????,the only time I inform the police is when I intend to go lamping with the rifle, and that is not a legal obligation, but a good way to avoid a visit,as you say,and when you ring them now you get the second degree,

Its a worrying time, I have some good rabbiting this yr, for the ferrets and little dog if things work out,
-
I will start in September round here,as said earlier there's still loads of cover around, I have picked up a nice piece of permission just local, which I can do now as the rabbits are in very sparcely bottomed hedges, but still think its early trouble is there's talk of mixy about 40 mile away, so I am towing with the idea,I might have a look with the longnet, if I get a favourable wind,
-
Yep the boy can shoot,it does go to show what they can do though,

Bloody marvelous well done,
