  1. So how far do you/would you travel for work? I ask, as I will stay within a max 20 mile radius of home, any further and find it hard to make it pay. Sods law, tends to dictate, that when I have either finished or nearly finished a job, another comes in near by!. Why cant they all come in together, so I can do several jobs at same time in same area
  2. Have used these before, but sometimes find the saw teeth get blocked/damaged/bend. You then need another tool to lift the cut piece out. The Hori can do both. My only criticism: as the hori is curved, so does not cut in a straight line
  3. Your doing the boring farm stuff Bryn because there is not enough of the lovely domestic work to fill your day
  4. Ok done they are a £50 each ......... your a "rich" man Bryn
  5. Looks like the one I have, very good, apart from carry sheath Fantastic on roots
  6. Found this mole book, author seems a little familiar, any one read it?
  7. Darcy, agree it must be operator error, but what error? if it was condensation, then both fields should be similar
  8. If it was against the law to transport a live wild animal, then the RSPCA would be breaking the law every day
  9. MT, not worried, just baffles. Your quite right though, in the end "we win" There is no choice
  10. I'm puzzled by that too. Some gardens the moles queue up to go through the traps. I'm up to 29 trapped in one garden and never had a trap back filled. Yet sometimes on other jobs all the traps are filled. Thankfully the Putanges sort them out, but as you say; it is a mystery why some won't go through the traps after all that time and effort you've put in for them on their behalf. Its almost as though they don't want to be killed. Some moles are just so ungrateful
  11. Had 24 traps in the one field, and 9 in the other. Must have done something very different in the 2nd field, but what? Maybe the small herd of sheep in the field had trod on traps to dislodge? or moved slightly as moley was approaching? Will be checking again later to see if I have any luck this time
  12. A good idea about thin coatings of powder, will use that one. Had fair success with using Formidor gel, but does not look particulary professional as comes in a little plastic bottle rather than the quantum
  13. I do not know how or why, but certain "families" of moles just "know"? Checked two fields today, adjacent to each other. Field 1 had 15 moles trapped, all in duffus traps. Field 2 had NO MOLES, every trap filled with soil. Whats going on?????
  14. Mk 4 or 6? Did you bait the fenns this time with peanut butter or something similar? could explain why 3 were trapped as they ate it.
  15. As well as a report, I like to keep photos , showing how traps/ bait stations were left, their position, entrances narrowed if required, secured in place.etc All helps if ever a problem arises, can prove you did everything within the law atb
  16. Its illegal to trap rabbits using a MK4, must be a Mk6
  17. I'm not sure, but I reckon moles go backward as well as forward, and IMO it is going backward how they get caught. Could it have been in an altercation with another mole at the time and backing away? TC It might have been practicing the moonwalk...who knows... Who knows?Well the mole did, very interesting. Its amazing all these little snippets of information one gets about moles from this forum. All for your book Darcy
  18. It is the same for Mole Scarers that simply vibrate every 30 seconds to scare the moles away, plenty of folk by them, use them then call in a professional. I tell the owner that you see moles along main roads, if 44 tonne trucks rumbling past don`t scare the moles, then your battery operated vibrator (no rude thoughts please) wont help (well not for moles)
  19. I guess when your in a trap and shit scared, then the last thing on your mind is a pheasant dinner
  20. You need to check each trap, particulary if they have not sprung, could be full of soil or simply empty, a little lift at the end is normally sufficient to check, if all is well leave until next visit
  21. Strange this topic has come up!! I`m in the process of my covert breeding plan between a stoat and a dog, it will be called a mol-sto. If all goes swimmingly to plan then traps will be a thing of the past :bye: No more dodgy knees :victory: Just a mol-sto and you`re in business. The mol-sto will be trained to excavate a "live" mole tunnel and simply chase down the quarry through the tunnel system and with a swift bite "kill the mole" and bring it back to the owner :tongue2: Watch this space
