  1. Helicopter!! Now there is a thought? Could I justify the expense of a quad copter as a justifiable taxable work related item to photograph/record locations of traps and scan fields before starting? And of course good fun
  2. Like the swirly effect of the trees from the aerial photo, cant see your traps though!!
  3. What metal detector you got Bryn? i use the Garrett, finds my lost stuff I wish there was an easy way to remember where traps were left!! I do lose quite a few each year, but my charges do cover the loses Not sure about the map either, it will get dirty, maybe wet, lose the pencil and you`ll be back to square 1 Happy Hunting
  4. MT - Where did you get your poles from? looked at various agricultural stores on line but only see the standard plastic electric fence posts
  5. Different traps for different occasions. Certainly near foot paths, public areas then a well hidden putange is far superior to a duffus in that there is more chance of the public finding the duffus, even if a mole hill is built up over it. Generally the duffus is superior, IMO, over all other traps, but then the Talpa comes superior when catching a difficult mole.
  6. Talpa have been proving quite good for me over last 10 days
  7. About to make my own rat snares after all the latest posts. So far have ordered some tigertail 0.8mm wire, 100 brass eyelets and some fishing swivels. Anything else needed, other than the hazel whips, which will cut next week??
  8. Great thread this. Something I really want to try, but as a complete novice can you please tell me exactly what i need to purchase?? I will use fourteen acre as heard the name on here before. Thanks in advance
  9. Or did I buy the last few, sorry guys :boogy:
  10. They are still on their website, just checked http://www.laboratoires-roman.com/pieges-taupes/20-20-pieges-putange.html Have you sent email to ask??
  11. Dont know who designed it, all I know it is expensive but its a taxable item. it is certainly the best mole trapping bag Ive had, looks good and does the job, no complaints from me
  12. I use a Spear and Jackson stainless steel border spade, £15 delivered from Amazon Same width as a duffus, light weight, can use straight away with out any modifications, why make life hard buy choosing an inferior product just because its £6 cheaper and then trying to make it work. Also use a knife to cut out runs if needed
  13. Indeed it is, from the nylon and canvas company, not cheap but utterly fantastic, its just great
  14. And since they used gas, cant be proved how much/little they used. Always found gas rather hit and miss, don`t use it these days. Stick to what I know (a little about) good traps and experience
  15. Talking of claw traps, we really should be praising the inventors/makers of these awful traps. They don't work very well, most folk who have a mole in the garden buy them try them and fail to catch the mole, and then call in a pro. I get a lot of work this way
  16. It would appear it's the same bait for 2 different purposes? Tree protection which will stop soon and for use in lofts which can continue, but don't quote me.
  17. I have been using some Talpa traps from Magnum, have had a few moles caught with them. I assume that on occasions the mole will detect this trap as well and block the tunnel up without firing?
  18. if you read any mole trapping book, they all seem to suggest that you must get the trap in quickly to avoid the mole detecting a change in oxygen levels. Does anyone agree with this.?? My catch rate seems fairly constant whether I put trap in quickly or take a bit of time.
  19. Had two jobs to check on this morning, both had a double catch with the duffus, it must be Sunday double pay day, result :boogy:
  20. you could try if you want, but all the pro`s out there would clear the field, we know that more success would be gained with the traps placed between fence line and feeding area.
  21. The card is also a bit thin, gone for much better quality now, they look and feel good, worth the extra
  22. i have invested in a heavy duty waterproof canvas bag, capable of holding 30 duffus traps, a seperate pouch for markers, 2 rings to put probe through plus 2 smaller pockets for tools etc. The strap is long enough to either carry or drag the bag along, its reinforced on the base. there is also a very large flap to kneal on Picking up traps at the end is a doddle, pop them in the bag and keep walking nothing to put on the ground, looks the part as well
