  1. Socks, I disagree (a little) I would imagine that any prey animal would indeed be stressed, if it felt it was failing to get away/cornered with no escape or running out of stamina - It would be very stressed then
  2. TC I understand where your coming from on welfare grounds..but then that should be the same for all wildlife, shouldn`t it? Take flying insects - we put up a sticky pad allow flies etc to land on them, they then stay there until they die, this equally is wrong but we all do it and it is acceptable?
  3. Anti hunting folk will always be against hunting simply because they are. Showing photos IMO is fine and just Carry on, if its legal show it
  4. Ok, Skycat, why take photos of any fieldsport where a dog is pursuing it's quarry, or a live rabbit in the net or being retrieved. Should we wait 'til they are dead first. IF we must take a piccy? Do we publish photos in our books that go against the grain? Were we trying to prove something? Or are we drawing a distinction between a fox and a rabbit? Mmm, I'm thinking about this one so bear with me please. We all take photos of our dogs chasing, and we don't consider the stress the wild animal is under when we do that, we are simply recording our dogs' prowess, capabilities, an
  5. Phil, Thank you for your help? Can I check - after placing a compressed piece of soil unfer the trigger plate, do you then back fill the entire trap with loose soil and firm slightly by pressing or simply leave alone or do what JD has done fill trap with small balls of compressed soil. You are very right " the best trap is the one that catches the mole" Atb
  6. Dont find graveyards very easy to do, not everyone wants the moles gone and do like to sabotage/remove traps. even with covert trapping folk seem to find them. Good Luck
  7. Same as you MT and NP Cant catch many moles with them, prefer duffus. A question? Do I need to set the trap slightly lower then run bottom to ensure the mole has to push up a little?
  8. I have always had a Sheriff All in one bee suit, has lasted many years never let me down, worth the extra money I paid for it. Nice to know that if in confined space with 1000`s of wasps I am protected Doubt if camo does much, wasps will still see the shape of person/equipment being used and chase that. In a loft they are interested in uv light, put in a flykiller and they simply dive in, great fun
  9. ET, Another thought for your ultimate "spade" an inbuilt gadget that when you wave the spade over the ground, it highlights the run and depth, so making the probe obsolete. Sure wont be too hard to add on, lol
  10. I have in the past done several courses, but feel there is no reason why not to ask what others use. At the end of day, each and everyone of us will use what suits, either on price, recommendation, ease of use or other reason. For me my final choice will be either Cimetrol or Stingray. What would be very useful, is if Pest magazines could review products with honesty to their effectiveness
  11. well, im testing it,mate.see how it goes,..early days,....lol The main concerns, with any 'mole spade' , is getting the 'sizes' right ? lol And strength when cutting out/digging down for deeper runs. Would like to see the end results, just in case you have "the best product" ever Have fun
  12. Agree with ant gels, use Fomidor works well, but there are a few times when customers want to see a quick (but not long term) solution
  13. I know that that topic of insecticides have been discussed before, but may be other thoughts/comments. I tend to use ficam W for my black ant work, still works well. Need to purchase another insecticide for when this fails/2nd visits or for bed bugs/fleas and general crawling insect use, obviously not cockroaches as a much more targeted response needed. My thoughts are: Cimetrol Stingray Both similar prices Also seen Rentokil "Deadline Insectaban" for crawling insects Any thoughts?
  14. Good Luck earth thrower. But not really sure you need to make one? I use a Spear and Jackson stainless steel Border spade off Amazon delivered £15. Light weight, same width as a duffus, comfortable handle, its kinda been invented. Then use a hori hori garden knife for small roots/holes etc
  15. Wildlife camera set covertly to take video and pictures. At least you will have proof. To a townie/ magpie lover the larsen looks cruel So leave a laminated sheet politely explaining the damage magpies/crows do to young lambs etc. it could just be that this "wally" has no idea what damage they do, and may realize his errors and leave alone. Can hope.
  17. Do you think you will be able to "sell" the business? Mole Catching is quite specialized and takes years of experience.
  18. Been a few around here, but not many. Have not heard a cuckoo for ages, certainly not this or last year
  19. It would appear that this person has quite a nice existence overseas
  20. MT - Thats hard core stuff, thought my part time 6500 miles a year was enough, you do that in weeks, lol I guess as long as it pays in the long run, its worth it. You can hang up your traps soon atb
