Good luck with that, I’ve heard a couple of people say the same thing recently. Tell you what I reckon though; the people who now want to do more trapping for ecological or job satisfaction reasons are soon going to have their ranks swelled by a lot of cowboy pesties who don’t have or won’t take the qualification they’ll need to buy 2nd gen anticoagulants next year. Just my personal prediction you understand, but I think trapping is about to become a massively overbooked profession. I do agree....luckily for me a have a well paid full time job, and pest control is really enjoyable

WERE THE PIE ?????
-
Yes can see now they are not as wide as the muddy pic looked. Will get one and see. My work generally seems to be going away from the poison route more and more and trapping is becoming more frequent.
-
Is that the WCS Tube? Never used them, can you narrow entrance to stop non targets? Looks good but probably could not use safely if cats or children about, whereas the kania with factory made cubby can be screwed to wall/tree/fence
-
I do use a tunnel with the kanias, does not seem to effect catch rate, shows due diligence, customers like to know non targets can not be caught, and I sleep easier at night Trapped 10 squirrels 4 in kanias and 6 in tunnels with fenns

Golder Arches!! That`s over 30 miles away from here, pie it is then

Tunnelling in a coal mine Got a photo Clive?

Aye, rats are a totally different animal....I know we all call squirrels 'tree rats' but they are dunces when compared to the brown rat.....I've spent a hell of a long time watching them on trail cams this springtime and i am amazed how clever/cunning the rat is.... Yes squirrels are dunces when it comes to "whats in the box" but equally very clever when it come to a mamouth assault course just to get a peanut as seen on tv/youtube

Found these on a search http://www.gardening-naturally.com/acatalog/Ant_Nematodes.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw4fCqBRDM1ZKhk5jfo6IBEiQAZQ97OIXKzbWhYyNh95dBgqGjS0RedyBXl5c_J2LE4Wql1VgaArXD8P8HAQ

Got 5 in two days, I wish rats were as easy to catch as squirrels?
-
That`s what I think as well, don`t understand it
-
This is taken from Pest Magazine, I am surprised that they suggest - 1/3 of UK Pesties turn down ant control requests. Can understand if it is for eg Pharaoh ants, but not for black ants? Your thoughts

Kanias working well, even with safety cage, caught within 4 hours with another 2 in tunnels & fenns
-
whats the point of letting them get used to a trap ??????? if its in it ,its in it. No point letting the fox pop in twice before you decide to catch it. time is money.
-
Sorry, did not think about the "being stolen" where I use them that`s not an issue. I also have mine on grass, so the fox is walking on grass so unable to detect the metal cage base. Agree eggs also useful. Could wash the trap with water in case the fox can smell something they are wary of. Reposition trap if not caught for a day or 3. Dont give up

Not so sure its law! Certainly NPTA/BPCA Best Practice If you dont seal up all holes, and other bee hives die as a result of your actions, and the authorities find out its you - then unless your paperwork/photos are waterproof expect problems. But if you can show "due diligence" and that the bees were a danger (serious anaphalaxis etc) you probably have a fairly good defence. I personally try and steer clear of bees and only deal with the simple ones eg a single hole in/out - easy to dust/fill in with expanding foam/wirewool/sealant
-
Is it a fox cage your using? I bait the inside at the back behind trip plate with a dead pigeon/pheasant/fish, a few bits at entrance but not much, the main meal inside. I dont cover my traps
-
Agree with most of your points, BUT half life of Ficam D!! Depends on where it is, if its dusted in a hole then it could remain active for a long time, same as in cavity wall, Thats no real difference to storing it in its original continer as long as its dry. When I do bees, I contact the local bee keepers first, so that they can come out and then agree destruction only course of action, certainly will help if ever investigated. My local bee keepers association have my details and will now call me if they have a nest to destroy I do find that bees can "be" quite difficult to kill with in
-
Hi out of curiosity are you asked to remove mason bees? Best to leave masonary bees alone, they will not hurt you, spray treatments to walls nesting sites largley ineffective. Best action would be to re point failing mortar joints after the best have departed. Keep all bees safe where possible

According to the papers, this year is expected to be a bumper year for wasps, which would be nice. Are wasps appearing in your work yet?
-
Of course, what are you going to do if/when you catch him or her?? Do tell

Must be lucky where I do moles!! I mark my traps with bright orange tent pegs, traps do not disappear, very lucky I guess

Something Ive Learned This Year
shropshire mole replied to bryn27's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Have you got shares in Hori Hori knives, lol I wish i could catch with Talpex, since I cant then its 3-1 for me 3 duffus and just 1 duffus. Do agree with your point of confirming fields to be done and printed maps. As Np said too many noughts and crosses, I would keep losing my pencil, for me no more mole hills = happy farmer= payday -
Being more mole catcher than rat catcher have not done any real serious rat catching, until now. I have a farm close by that is literally overrun with rats, but because of plentiful supplies of food and water, and that they just seem not interested in rodenticides, have tried muskil grain and pasta, romax rat cp and contrac blocs all with very little success. The farmer has until this year controlled the rats with contrac blocs, this year they just not eating them? he has tried other rodenticides as well but rats this year not interested So have been trying trapping as control. This i
