  1. I agree Gaz. That way you end up with plenty of greyhound blood, which is where the speed that Tomo's bitch had came from. I get what people are saying, and I know whip/grey x deer/greys are a very good type, but was just thinking about a 1st x whip/deer, and again, as I've said, just thinking
  2. 23" whippet x 26" deerhound? So what you are really taking about is a whip/grey over a deer/grey? Which is just a smaller deerhound based lurcher in my eyes? Apologies if I'm wrong... Lol you know what I mean, a big whippet put to a smallish deerhound. Anyway, as has been said, it's getting a bit complicated now, lurcher to lurcher, the way forward lol. Just a thought, no ill feeling or malice aimed at anyone in particular
  3. Yeah I understand that, but there'd be less chance of throwing all sizes if it was a 1st x, just whippet sire and deerhound dam,. I get what you're, and H M, is saying if there was whippet on both sides somewhere along the line, anyway, just thinking
  4. H M, it's not pipe dreams, or that I mind being disagreed with, just more thoughts on what I think could be a good type of dog. And with you saying 'don't get me started with breeding two extremes', well I don't get it, like I said, plenty of people been breeding whippet/salukis over the years, and that's as much an extreme, or even more so, as whipet/deerhound. I'm not suggesing to put an 18" whippet over a 30" deerhound, but a good strong 22-23""ish whippet from a line known for size over a smaller type deerhound bitch of about 26"-28" from a working bred line that doesn't produce the huge
  5. Go on then H M, start, as you're so up on all things lurcher, DEER/GREY mid-distance x WHIP/GREY sprint, what's the point? Or saluki/grey x whip/grey, same thing really, tell me what's the point
  6. Yes, but there are quite a few whippet x salukis being bred, same thing, extremes, so why breed them? I'd much rather have a whip/deer than a whip/saluki
  7. Lol, might do that once I get back into it all properly, but yeah, I get what you're saying
  8. Lol picking up my 1st pcp tuesday. Was originally getting a HW80 K, but after shooting my mate's HW80 K, and then trying a few more, including the 97, decided that although superbly built etc, they are just a tad too heavy, I'm not getting any younger lol. And the rifle I'm picking up tuesday feels superb to shoulder/handle and the weight scoped up is perfect for me. Good luck with with your choice lee, whatever you decide on
  9. Old technology!? Lee, there's more than a few lads on here that would give you a 'friendly' slap for coming out with such blasphemy! lol
  10. Yeah I agree with what you say buster, and I could get a 3/4 grey/deer pretty quickly, great dogs, and there have been a few whippet x deer/greys bred the last few years too. I'm not in any particular rush for a pup of any type really, as we have a couple of seasons left in the bitch we have here, plus my son's got a nice dog he'll be starting this season. It's just that I really fancy a 1st x whippet/deerhound. Anyway, thanks to everyone that replied
  11. Just to clarify, I'm not being awkward, just using a bit of common sense. After all when a 16-17" bedlington gets mated to a 26-27" greyhound, you get get dogs which end up midway in size. Can't see the difference in any other 1st x type with a big height difference
  12. The ones I saw at Alan Charles' I remember as being fairly level. I'd think they could vary a bit though. I don't really go along with the theory of a lot of size range, one or two maybe at the extreme ends, but in the main I think you'd get more that were sort of in the middle of both parents, bitches around 24"ish, dogs around 26". Would be great to hear from people that have bred this cross and kept in touch with who the pups were placed with
  13. Shaaark even if you don't get eny thing once you do get out on the hunt put a post up of your outing as other members will learn off you even if you think its not worth putting up get it up if nothing els we will get a laugh but don't take it to heart we have all been laugh,t at at some point and had the mick taking out of us even me O and little hunter was well chuffed atvbmac  Will do lol a t b
  14. What size did it make tomo, or do you not know?
  15. Lol yeah you're right there mate lol, never mind, still got a couple of years out of the bitch we've got while I'm waiting
  16. My thoughts exactly. i,v said this on here before, i,d like this cross before iam too old. Yeah same here
  17. I was typing as you posted bunnys lol, yeah I think you would get some useful pups with good coats etc
  18. Yeah roy, 1st x is what I mean, not whippet on both sides or whatever, and also what you say about wastage, I think we're on the same wavelength. If someone had a litter by say a 22" whippet dog out of say a 28" deerhound bitch, and both were sound useful workers, I'd be on my travels to look at the pups
  19. Simple really gaz, I like whippets and I like deerhounds, and I think a pup bred from the right parents, sizewise, would prove very useful. After all whip/greys have been around for years, and I think whip/deer would give the pups a better coat, and also good feet, plus both breeds have sound temperaments. And with only two breeds in the mix, I would've thought size would be a bit easier to predict, or rather, give you more even sized pups
  20. Just read it again lol, I get you now, 21 weeks 21"
  21. As others have said, I've been popping into this section off and on for a while now, but as of yet I've got nothing worthwhile to post, hopefully that'll be changing after tuesday. Just got to say this section is far more helpful to newcomers and those with not much experience, with members giving advice, tips etc on all aspects of air rifling, from technical advice right through to hunting, well impressed, top bunch of guys, and girls, from members to those that run this section, oh yeah, well done to the youngun! lol. bet he was chuffed to bits
  22. Looks good that mate, I'm about to pick up a new gun with a walnut stock this tuesday, and that looks to have a good finish and colour to it
  23. Anyone know of someone that works or owns this type? I would think a big whippet dog put to a fairly smallish deerhound bitch should throw some good pups. Just whippet and deerhound, no greyhound
  24. Thanks drifter they very alike alright younger lad bit more saluki looking Both nice dogs, how much saluki in them?
