In truth not a lot, a good 3/4 grey collie is pretty good and would be a decent type for a 1st timer, or old hand for that matter, but a touch of deerhound brings a bit of extra size, that’s fast but not over the top heart in mouth stuff. Plus I find the deerhound brings a more settled temperament, easier to live with and bit more affinity to bigger stuff which could be usful in Ireland Summed that up very nicely, as long as you don't expect them to be top flight ferreting dogs, I don't think there are many types to match them, especially as versatile, R H F D, pre ban, lamp dogs
  2. That's a lovely, bright looking, contented pup and looks like it's got a good thick coat
  3. Looks a nice dog, my lad has one similarly bred and looks alot like your dog. He's only 8 1/2 months yet, gonna start him this coming season. Will ask him to get a couple of pics up when he comes down
  4. Seen most x's and lurcher x lurcher types do the same, with enough experience, or run too often when not fit
  5. could you explain them in a bit more detail for us you can tell genetics via punnet squares, every single trait (lenght of coat, colour, height, greying gene) occurs due to a specific gene in a chromosome. If the mother has a long coat for example and the father, it doesnt garauntee that the pup will. if we use a capital L for the gene that makes a long coat and a small l for the gene that makes a short coat then if the long coat or L is dominant and the small l is ressesive the mother could have the genotype of Ll as could the father Ll so they would both have the phenotype of b
  6. how she bred mate? Like the look of her. . 3 quater greyhound quarter collie mate Is she from hancocks mate, just curious, belting pup wherever you got her from

  9. 2 hours walking a day for a 12 wk old babe ?Sounds a lot I'm sure, walk I take my dogs on is a track which takes about half an hour to walk round. Older dogs generally f**k off on scents, pups I've had just amble. It's not a race mate, I'm not talking flat out walking here see that's the thing when you say something on here, it's hard to paint a picture. An hours walk is a lot of different things to different people, maybe I should have explained it better. Just get the pup out and about Have you mellowed out, or is this the real baw? . Definitely 'not' the reply I would've expected!

  11. A good pure greyhound dog,. Don't listen to the 'GARBAGE' about the bad feet etc etc which people on here will tell you, they're the ones which have never run such a dog
  12. Never mind breed standards, KC, C O O, or whatever, you'll find that 'sheepdog/herding dog' is lurking pretty close in whatever type of 'supposed' 'purebred' types of running dog you can suggest.
  13. I daren't respond lol . Wasn't really having a dig at anyone in particular, just they aren't the type for me. And the dog I spoke of was sired by one of margaret williamson's dogs, supposedly just bedlington blood?

  15. I will say the worst coats I've ever seen have been with Bedlington blood in. Will NOT have a dog with bedlington , or bull blood, don't see the point of either. Ok, I know I'll get a bit of flack from the bedlington people, but I can handle it
  16. LoL Don't think anyone will do better than a whippet for 'rough and ready, let's f***ing go' kind of animals, and you know I'm damned right!
  17. just ive seen a few posts and replies on here and poeple have said there not strong enough of wouldent be my 1st choice.... was just wondering why that was and if anybody was a fan of working pure whippets...pros/cons ... thanks You'll get the majority of people on here who've never owned, or even seen, a purebred whippet working, slag them off, 'shit feet, shit stamina, too fragile, not game enough, too game for their own good, etc etc, the list is endless, and there are people on here who do work them and know that they're a great versatile dog that's always ready for a day or night out
  18. Its because the tyres are worn! I don't know, some of these kelpie types are pretty powerful, and keeping that on tarmac would indeed take some doing! don't believe it..........it must have hit a fence Hit a fence be f****d!! A fence wouldn't stop a deere that f***ing size! That is one top f***ing bitch!!
