  1. I do not and will not push any of my pups, even on rabbits, got no time for any of the egotistical bollocks in competetive coursing either. I've been called 'too cautious' and accused of wrapping my dogs in cotton wool for too long or whatever, doesn't bother me. Obviously now and again a youngster will run the odd rabbit when out on a walk, but none of my dogs have been entered on anything until they are physically and mentally ready. All dogs will pick up injuries now and again, but none of mine have ever been damaged by being run too young. P S, not having a dig at you personally skycat lo
  2. Spot on unless of permanent injury that render's them useless for what they where bred to do.. I get what you're saying millet, but plenty of young dogs get permanently injured, and a couple even killed, every year by being run at hares far too young, especially on big open land where a hare can and does give a very keen youngster a desperately hard time, and I think that's the main point of fdr's post, which I think most people would agree with.
  3. I know I said leave it but when I looked again at the picture I didn't really bother with the bricks it was more the person on the lead. The original post said the dog was 32" which makes the child holding the lead a rather large individual ! Now the dog is 29 1/2 ", still a very large dog. Now if I am correct your forearm is the same length as your lower leg making the handlers forearm 14 / 15 " long, large for a child. The dog does not look like it has another 3" growth in those legs. Sorry folks I must be losing it, I just actually measured my forearm and lower leg! . My forearm ( e
  4. Border lad and skycat have hit the nail on the head, if people let their dogs mature a few more months than what they generally do, there'd be more good dogs that would be catching, and a lot less ruined dogs being passed around/sold to the next gullible newcomer. One of the things that surprises me, though on reflection these days it shouldn't, is when I read/hear of puppy comps, even if held in small fields, feckin madness, on bigger fields/land it's even worse, the one run could be the end of that youngsters coursing life, a keen pup will run itself to exhaution, and possibly be damaged fo
  5. it comes free when you order a black leather gimp suite off his special site Kin el paulus, I just spat my tea down my front!
  6. Lol I'm with you on that, tried tried every way you could imagine mud lol, haven't eaten em for years, gimme seafish every time
  7. Older bitch we have is exactly the same, apart from being possessive, also now getting a tad more aggressive with the younger dog, he's coming up to 11 months. I know that's down to her being a very dominant bitch though, she was from a litter of 9, all bitches, and by f**k, she is a very dominant bitch. Very intelligent and fairly easy to train basic stuff, but you've got to be on your toes all the time with her, otherwise she'd be bossing you. It certainly isn't easy, but like you say, she has 'many' positives as regards work/hunting
  8. Sound, like that little brindle, got a neck on her lol
  9. Lol, seriously gaf, though they're not my type of dog, there's no getting away from the fact that they are cracking well reared pups, little belters
  10. They look like they're going to be too tall, and those feet, MILES too big! lol, belting pups
  11. H M, did you have that dog before the ban, or was he ok on rabbits as well as other quarry?
  12. Satan, when she's approaching 2 years of age and strengthening up, is when you'll really start to see her developing even more 'serious speed' lol. She should learn how to control her turning and her speed the more experience she gets. I'll get my lad to pm some pics of our bitch to you. Despite being almost 29" tts, she doesn't struggle picking up rabbits lol cheers mate, if she gets any faster she'll never be able to stop when she gets going, nearly ko'd me going at full pelt the other day She's got no problem getting low and picking up, so yeah hopefully the turning will get bet

  14. Might have whacked it's swede and broke it's neck as it ran into/inside base of tree?
  15. People say that a lot but the sire could of been the smallest dog in the litter with his brothers making 27"-28". And the Dam could of easily had 26" brothers. So 27" would be far from impossible. Just saying. Anything could happen. Lol. All the best. Looks a nice type. Was thinking the same gaz, but didn't want to risk another slating! . Don't know if I'm getting more sensitive with age, or reading too much into things lately ............ , still fancy a 1st x whip/deer though I hope you find one mate. Would look forward to seeing how they turn out. Conformation and work wise.
  16. Our bitch, same type as yours satan, stopped growing in height at 13 months, just under 29." Sire 1st x collie/grey 25", dam 1st x deer/grey 26.5". I like the pic you put up the other week of your bitch, looks to have turned out very nice

  18. I agree Gaz. That way you end up with plenty of greyhound blood, which is where the speed that Tomo's bitch had came from. I get what people are saying, and I know whip/grey x deer/greys are a very good type, but was just thinking about a 1st x whip/deer, and again, as I've said, just thinking
  19. 23" whippet x 26" deerhound? So what you are really taking about is a whip/grey over a deer/grey? Which is just a smaller deerhound based lurcher in my eyes? Apologies if I'm wrong... Lol you know what I mean, a big whippet put to a smallish deerhound. Anyway, as has been said, it's getting a bit complicated now, lurcher to lurcher, the way forward lol. Just a thought, no ill feeling or malice aimed at anyone in particular
  20. Yeah I understand that, but there'd be less chance of throwing all sizes if it was a 1st x, just whippet sire and deerhound dam,. I get what you're, and H M, is saying if there was whippet on both sides somewhere along the line, anyway, just thinking
  21. H M, it's not pipe dreams, or that I mind being disagreed with, just more thoughts on what I think could be a good type of dog. And with you saying 'don't get me started with breeding two extremes', well I don't get it, like I said, plenty of people been breeding whippet/salukis over the years, and that's as much an extreme, or even more so, as whipet/deerhound. I'm not suggesing to put an 18" whippet over a 30" deerhound, but a good strong 22-23""ish whippet from a line known for size over a smaller type deerhound bitch of about 26"-28" from a working bred line that doesn't produce the huge
  22. Go on then H M, start, as you're so up on all things lurcher, DEER/GREY mid-distance x WHIP/GREY sprint, what's the point? Or saluki/grey x whip/grey, same thing really, tell me what's the point
  23. Yes, but there are quite a few whippet x salukis being bred, same thing, extremes, so why breed them? I'd much rather have a whip/deer than a whip/saluki
  24. Lol, might do that once I get back into it all properly, but yeah, I get what you're saying
