Don't know if you, or any other members know, but are AA buying 'BROCOCK' out?

What cal is it mate?

Very good interesting link that. What I find hard to fathom though is that many people find it hard to accept the fact that big strong whippets have been around for many many years, and from quite a few different lines, they are not a relatively, as far as purebred whippets go, new thing

I'd much rather look at the pics IWW puts up of his cracking bitch and the scenery etc, than read the tedious drivel most of you coursing lads put up of foxy, prancer, dancer etc, or their irish bred equivalents or whatever, and their breeding for the last god knows how many generations behind them. I'd suggest it's you lads that have too much time on your hands lol

Are Bigger Heavier Whippets Better For Work????
shaaark replied to carp king's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Agree with most of what you've written there, and as I've posted a while back, big whippets have been around for as long as they've been called whippets, and are certainly not a new thing. I owned a 21" bitch, her dam being 21" and the sire 22", and a dog just over 22" (both with papers and registered) from slightly different lines, in the early 80's, and I didn't consider them to be out of the ordinary, as I'd seen dogs of similar size plenty of times before I owned them. -
A mate has a 3rd generation 50/50 bull grey, that is 27" tts, not turned out as heavy as I thought he would've, and is pretty impressive looking I suppose, if you like bull x's. Still looks ugly as faaack to me though . Still only 16 months now and has caught a couple of young rabbits when just out for a wander with him.

I agree, a dog aggressive cur was never anything to brag about. but some did. The WWW just made it easier for such numpties to broadcast such crap! I guess its the price we pay. You know, years ago if I had a dog aggressive lurcher, it would've been the very last thing I would've bragged about! How and why have things changed so much? Not just on here, but other forums etc, it seems as though it's the norm. When I first got into lurchers, dog aggressive types would've been quickly, and permanently, sorted out. What and why have things changed so much!? Well, in my mind I think I alread

Possibly deer/grey x collie/grey?

Faaaaackin hell, mastiffs, dog aggressiveve curs whatever, apart from myself can anyone else see a trend forming which is detrimental to ALL dogwork!? Honestly, not just on this thread, but I really do fear the worst, by a long long margin!!

This is in danger of going off topic, leave dog aggressive lurchers etc for another thread, just saying like

I know it's banned, but with deer spreading out into many areas across the country, it's not uncommon to stumble across some if we go for a 'rural drive' into areas that even just 5 years ago you wouldn't see one at all. Nice to see them though . I think it's high time the government saw a bit of sense, and relaxed their grip on some of these pathetic, and most of the time, unenforcable policed laws. Don't know how they'd go about it mind, as far as I can see, it's all a confusing pile of dross that even the powers that be get bogged down with most of it and don't really know what they're doin

Feck me, you talk some sense!

Are they proper 'runts' or just smaller than their siblings? Not being argumentative, but there is a difference
-
good one lol,.......... no doubt killed by a brindle duck footed bull-platypus wearing a shiny collar, when it took to the water! lol. Nice whippets by the way
-
I tell you what lads, I think most people are using the wrong type of dogs. This bitch must have 101 strings to her bow! Lol cracking little dog

Anyway, off topic, but it seems as though you've got a little trouble as regards 'crackers', what's that about? Feel free to disregard this post

You mean it's really that simple? Most of the time, it really is that simple gaz I was being sarcastic mate. All this over-complication of starting off a lamping dog. FFS DON'T run it with a 'pilot dog'! Take it out on it's own and take things easy with it. It doesn't need to see another dog catching or whatever, they aint called 'running dogs' for nothing. Forget all the 'young dog advice', they don't need any of it

Didn't mean to sound harsh with my earlier post, and your pup certainly kooks like it enjoys jumping. And I think that's when some people think 'great she/he jumps for fun'. Most 5 bar gates are around the 5 foot mark, so that's double the height of your bitch, it's a fair way down for a young still growing, joints etc, dog to land. Scrambling over logs etc, like your bitch is doing in this clip, is all I let any youngsters I've had do til they're getting everything together, balance, coordination etc, which is normally over a year old, or even longer with some dogs. Anyway, no offence inten

I'm a very cautious twat, certainly wouldn't be asking any of my pups to jump five bar gates at 10 months of age, especially onto roads/concrete. What's the rush, it's still a youngster? And I realise that a smaller lighter framed dog will mature a little quicker physically than a bigger type, but they're still pups. As I've said in a previous post, I've been critisized for 'wrapping my dogs in cotton wool', I couldn't give a f**k, none of my dogs have been injured through stupidity or lack of patience, ever

Leg injuries are pretty common and varied with most running dogs, only a vet etc will be able to tell you after examining her, hope she'll be ok
