BULLSHIT!! Been reading the collie/grey for stud thread last couple of days. And the same words keep cropping up by some members regarding how a dog looks. Absolute rubbish, when you go to visit a litter of pups, and they're all friendly, well socialised etc, do you pick the ugliest f****r in the litter, or one that's a better looker?! How can anyone tell how good a worker a pup of 8 -10 weeks of age might make when it's adult?! Looks don't matter, BULLSHIT!!

A bit like you mac. Got rid of my last three fairly recently, last one, my HW97 KT, to my son the end of march, birthday present for him. But would give them a once over every 2 - 3 weeks whether they needed it or not. And apart from my fairly oldish HW80, which I bought second hand off a mate, and that left my possession far better than when I bought it off him, they all left me in pristine condition. I know some lads that only clean theirs once every 3 -4 months, but that to me is quite indicative of a lazy person, lazy mind.Been watching your threads about refurbs etc, and to be hon

There are 5, 3 owned by one person, that live about 3 miles from me, the other 2 owned by 2 different people, that live less than a 5 minute walk from me. I See them pretty regularly. The first 3 I mentioned are owned by someone that really does understand the breed, and has had the same and very similar breeding for years, and his dogs are phenominal animals. The other 2 are owned by people that are swayed by all this crufts shite etc, and the difference between the first 3 dogs is alas quite shameful

Well, I don't know about any first cross type being the best at any one thing. But I have to say, the first cross deer/greys I have seen, have been better general alround lamp dogs, taking good numbers of a variety of quarry, than any other first cross. I'll duck out now ☺

Not having a dig here mate, but does it really matter what he wants it for, or if there are better types suited to what he wants it for? He wants a first cross deerhound/greyhound ?

One of the best I've personally seen was a mate's border/lakeland x sealyham/russell. Must have been about 35 years ago. Border/lakeland sire was brought down from the midlands, sealyham/russell dam from the valleys, south wales.

I get what you're saying mate. But surely if you outcross to a type that shares your dogs original lineage, then it aint 'really' outcrossing, more breeding some of the original blood back into your lines? And by the way, just to clarify things, I am in no way a bedlington expert or whatever, but have a couple of mates that are, compared to me, and these days wouldn't touch a kc beddy with a bargepole ?

There'll probably be someone on here to come along to put it all into context. But as far as I can ascertain, fell, border, beddies etc, come from the same rootstock, so I wouldn't really think you'd be too far away from any of those breeds by adding a drop of related blood, then breeding back in anyway. If that makes sense

I've not owned a bedlington, but know a few that have, or owned them in the past, either pures or mainly beddy bred. I certainly don't have much personal knowledge of them at all, ............ but can hear the absolute bullshit spouted about them on here a mile off, and by some long standing members ?
