Disagree with you bill. What you're saying here doesn't make sense. I know full well that there are plenty of young dogs with only 2 seasons work behind them, and have been worked far more regularly than some 5 or 6 year old dogs, and have taken plenty of various game over various types of terrain, and have remained sound and very keen. What you're saying is because the dog is relatively young, it's not as desirable a stud as an older dog? Quitting on game or whatever can happen at 3 years or 7 - 8 years

That's partly what I was getting at. If you put in enough work to any dog or bitch, you'll know if they're worth breeding off long before they reach 5 or 6 years of age. Like you say, at 2-3 years of age, some dogs will have been worked harder and more frequently, than some 4 or 5 year old dogs. And if they've remained sound, and have shown the abilities etc you desire, then you'll know what you have on your hands

If you put in enough work, of whatever type, to a dog, you should know long before it's 5 or six years of age, if it's worth breeding from. Not trying to be clever, but alot of people are waiting far too long to use potentially great dogs at stud because 'everyone else' says 'they need at least 4 or 5 years graft' before they'd consider using them. ....... hogwash!

Yeah it,s definitely been getting warmer AFTER 2 o clock the last few years. And the coolest night we've had round my way the last four weeks has been 14°, five nights ago. Night before last it was 20° at midnight! Much too warm to be running dogs for extra fitness at this time of year. And to black neck, it's not just my opinion mate, it's a medical, physiological fact. Plus round our way the ground is still rock hard, despite the fact we've had a few very light spells of drizzle. We haven't got a running dog at moment, but me and the mrs only take 'her' mini schnauzer over the river, 10

Early or late, don't make much difference really. Still far too warm to be trying to get dogs fit. And to those that are already lamping their dogs in these conditions, well, it beggars belief. Ok, take your dogs out early or late evening for a bit of exercise, but make sure you're close to riverbanks etc
