Long Range Aim Points For Crows
charlie caller replied to Stoater's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Your bismags, will have a better ballistic co-efficient than the aa fields, so should carry a little more energy further, and at that distance you need all the energy you can get, you are obviously hitting/ killing them, so you are doing something right -
Good points raised Deker, and for those reasons as I said, I would not attempt a shot on a live target @ 60 yards with a 12ftlbs air rifle, by the same token I would not attempt to drop pigeons @ 100 yards with my 12 bore, and I am a pretty decent shot with a shotgun, however an internet search will show George Digweed doing just that there will always be people capable or otherwise, who wish to push the envelope, and let us remember as we have all said, more or less, that the rabbit was dead, shot through the side of the head with a .22 slug, the issue in the original post was not one of wou

Shooting My First Reloads...223
charlie caller replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
And as I have said before, when you have dicked about altering the distance to the lands, a hundred times over, you will MOST LIKELY find your rifle prefers a jump to the rifling as many do, I am not saying dont experiment (safely) as you might find a magic distance and it will be 10thou away, but dont spend hours and hours doing it, concentrate on uniform neck tension (crimp) case prep, powder measure, and careful primer seating, and rifle hunters method of measuring aol does work, just make sure when you close the bolt on the round you do it slowly, and do it at least 3 times and measure eve -
Long Range Aim Points For Crows
charlie caller replied to Stoater's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Totally agree with Mac, although I usually shoot them with the shotgun, cammo and concealment is vital shooting crows, their eyesight is very very good, and they are damn clever birds, have fun -
I take your point Matt, and personally although I consider myself a pretty decent shot, I would not attempt a shot at 60 yards with a sub 12 air rifle, I have never met Simon (the op) but it is my understanding that he is a quite extraordinary good shot with his spring rifles, and has devoted many many hours practice to attain the standard he has reached, an air rifle hovering around the legal limit certainly has the energy to kill cleanly at 60 yards and probably much further, as I seem to recall it requires only around 2ftlbs energy to kill a rabbit cleanly with a shot to the head,so I think

Nothing wrong with Lee beam scales mate, a little fiddly perhaps, but damn accurate. -

Fuc*ing scum, I would like to see them have a go at some of the EDL lads, cowardly peado sympathises the lot of them.

Sorry lads I must come clean, its Seeker, he always dresses like that out wildfowling.

Indeed, nature is neither cruel nor kind, it simply is that, nature, I dislike intensely shooting kits, however I know damn well that if I dont keep the population down on one farm in particular, he will find someone who will, I take a small amount of comfort knowing that they are not wasted, making good food for my ferrets and hawk, but I much prefer to shoot them when they are half grown, not least because I can eat them then we cant help being anthropomorphic sometimes, especially where cute and cuddly creatures are concerned, but so long as no suffering is caused and they are not wasted,

Requesting Permission
charlie caller replied to Charlie Portlock's topic in General Airgun Discussion
And also lets not forget farmers really DO vary in their general demeanor towards folk asking for permission from area to area, If you showed me a map of Derbyshire, as an example, I could point out areas where the farmers are both forthcoming and just the opposite, I have quite a lot of land in an area, where the rabbits could be eating them out of house and home literally, and they would still not give permission to a stranger, I have gained these areas, by being recommended by some farming friends to other farmers, and yet in the same county, I could point you to an area where you would mee -
I remember a time, and this is not too long ago in the scheme of things, when some bloke saying he shoots rabbits at 50 yards with a sub 12 air rifle, would be regarded as a Walter Mitty type character, and would be sneered at and thought of as a pri*k, and I am talking in the pcp era too, I still have great trouble convincing some shooting mates that some lads are shooting vermin at 50-60 yards with air rifles, my personal limit is 45 yards, not because I dont think my rifle's or myself are up to the job, far from it, I just feel that if I need to stretch it out any further I have a .22 rimf

Funny that, I find exactly the opposite. Even though I prefer Eleys, the waxy coating on the head leaves gunk around. I find it more prominent in my 10 shot mag. I can only fill it with a max of 8 otherwise I am guaranteed a jam as they feed up. No such problems with the Winnies. On the subject of Winnies I picked up some of the 42 grain a week or two ago. I'm looking forward to comparing them against their 40 grain offering. Hmmm yes very interesting, perhaps we are using a different type of Eley .22 bullet? My CZ 511 semi auto will not cycle winchesters after about 50 rounds unless

.243 will go through 1/2" thick steel at 150 yards, which out of interest is around the same thickness as the armour on a first world war tank

Diana/milbro G80 .22 Project
charlie caller replied to Adrian Kenny's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Practice and you will find you will get very good with those open sights mate, a pal of mine hates scopes and refuses to have one on his rifle, and let me tell you he is a bloody good shot, easily head shoot a bunny at twenty five yards everytime. -
Diana/milbro G80 .22 Project
charlie caller replied to Adrian Kenny's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thats what many of us grew up with mate, scopes were either very expensive, or cheap shi*e, and mounts were not much better, I remember putting plenty of game in the bag with open sights, including the first rabbit I ever shot aged 13 with a Crosman .22 pump pistol .
