  1. Hello all, A belated update on how best to go about gaining shooting permission. My first interview was with NGO Regional Chair, author and respected Headkeeper Liam Bell. You can read what he has to say about air gunners here: http://www.charliesrifles.co.uk/journal/ Apologies for the delay!
  2. Yes Walshie, or how many pints you have to buy them to keep them polite!
  3. Ha! Good feedback gents. Yes, I do have the ability to ramble on so being concise and keeping it simple is a good idea. At the very least this will be a chance to get the opinions of farmers etc first hand which might be useful. There's no substitute for building trust and I think most of us are probably trustworthy and responsible it's just about being given a chance. I'm lucky as I do the odd day beating and play cricket at the local club so it's easy enough to get chatting that way. Yes Moxy, you're quite right. I'm sure there's something we can do to enable more of us to get out wit
  4. I completely agree Walshie. The plan is to sit down over a few ales with the farmers near me that I already have a good rapport with and various permissions from. Interview them in return for beer and then use their answers as a starting point for a concise list of dos and don't like you say.
  5. Hi Washie, I can see your point if it was an informal interview for a permission as it would be much to full on in that context. However, this an interview on the whole idea of gaining permission and what we can do to better present ourselves and communicate our reliability. It's for an upcoming feature in Airgunner magazine but I will share the results online in some format after publication. The landowners/famers/ keeper are all up for an in depth discussion and I'm not sure that it's been done before in any meaningful way. Good point Rez. That's a crucial one I left out regarding the
  6. I think you're right Charlie! But volumes of what? Maybe many people here already have permission to shoot and a have good network of contacts. If so, then this is the wrong forum to post this in and I apologise.
  7. Hello all, I'll shortly have the opportunity to interview the people that grant air gunners permission to shoot on their land. I've lined up a Head Keeper from a private estate, and two farmers that have a range of livestock and mixed arable crops. It's for an upcoming article but I'm keen for the community to be involved and I may post the audio interviews online (pending permission). I want to make my questions relevant and useful so I'm posting this on two other forums to try and get a good idea of what people would be interested in knowing. As a starting point I've come up w
  8. Yes, we have the same red rimmed eyes and a share a similar fear of the sun!
  9. Ha! I deserve everything I get Rez! And yes, the armoury at Hogwarts is well stocked with German springers...
  10. Hello all, I'm Charlie, this is my first post though I've been a regular reader for a long time and I always learn something when I come here. Anyway, I'm in love with a Weirauch and I hunt for the pot. That's about it for now I think. I wrote up a recent hunting trip and I thought some like minds might enjoy it. Sorry about the length! Gran Gesture How long has it been since you last cooked rabbit? Recently, my granny and I were talking about the food she ate growing up in Birmingham during the 1920s and 30s (she's just turned 93). Her father died after the Great War and during th
