  1. Good luck with finding you ferret, mate ATB
  2. If the hutch looks as good as the boxes mate you've got nothing to worry about ATB
  3. I prefer hobs altho I've got a couple of jills and use 'em from time to time . ATB
  4. I did hear some stories of jills reacting badly to the jill jab . But I think it was down to the vet not wieghing the jill or at least not estimating its wieght and just giving it the full dose . The size of the dose, I believe, is measured according to the wieght of the animal . ATB
  5. Forgot to mention the needle I use for net repair is about 61/2" long . ATB
  6. Hullo Mate On a quick set if you shorten the running line you'll shorten the net so you'll need to replace the missing piece or replace the whole line (on a 100yd net that'll be 200yds plus twice the working hieght of the net, better to go a bit too long than too short)needles and twine you can get from Brian Brinded, Bridport Nets, Agouti, Netloft, google 'em they've all got websites. Brian Brinded did make an excellent DVD Net Making and Repair, well worth the money a very good watch, I think I paid a tenner for mine ATB
  7. Hullo Mate Assuming that it's a traditional type net . As far as the bottom cord is concerned, they are usually fairly easy to splice or stitch together . Obviously you're looking for a join that the net can pass over easily enough I don't recall ever seeing such a thing as a 'repair kit' for nets because it's basically a needle full of twine . Can you make nets ?,do you know the knots ? Assumng that you do . Repairing a long net isn't THAT difficult . I sit with the damaged area over my knees, cut out the broken twine (not too close to the knot) and replace with new
  8. Looks like your doing alright mate, can't beat a home made cage...get'em just how you want 'em that way ATB
  9. There ain't much more you can do tonight mate, perhaps let your nieghbours know to keep thier eyes open . It's a worrying situation this, most times if you put a bit of grub out and a box with hay in it you'll find it there in the morning. Good luck mate ATB
  10. If no-one on here answers you mate google "ferret welfare societies" or "ferret clubs" ATB
  11. Couple of days should do it....leave it too long (a week) and the jill gets a bit knocked about on the back of her neck ATB
  12. Looks like a very nice set up there, mate ATB
  13. Hi mate The first thing you did wrong was not to read up on the subject...big mistake that The second was not to buy a locator ....absolutely essential dress for any working ferret.....I don't care what anyone says to the contrary . And the third was to leave that ferret behind .....NEVER leave your ferret behind......go back and see if you can find it .
  14. To be honest with you, mate, you've just described exactly why I don't breed ferrets anymore . I don't hold with this 'breeding a working line' stuff as experience has taught me that all ferrets will work ,to a greater or lesser degree, so when I need a replacement I always get a rescue . Being a founder member of a rescue society helps as well . So, sorry mate but that culling business gets a big from me . ATB
  15. Once you've set your fenn trap out, keep it down all the time, it'll be safe enough in the tunnel steve the fish described and fenn traps are very patient you'll always be catching ATB
  16. Get yourself a book mate and have a good read up ATB
  17. Don't say how old you are mate but a friend of mine joined NOBS (National Organisation of Beaters and Pickers Up)he gets paid for the beating (not much)and has got some lovely country to ferret...got to be worth a try. ATB
  18. Joking aside, that's a good write up and some good pics as well . And what a haul ,101 eh!, well done that man ATB
  19. Yeah, sometimes treble ATB
  20. That's a nice looking bit of kit ATB
  21. Don't that get on your nerves ? People dumping thier wrecked vans in the countryside like that really p5sses me off
  22. Never really seen the need for hybrids, they never seem to work any better that the bog standard ferret but show ferret keepers seem to like 'em because they are usually dark....show ferret judges on the other hand hate them because they're usually nasty little buggers . In the end I suppose it is the "curiosity factor" . ATB
