  1. is it the under coat? then i would leave it untill spring and help him moult by combing/brushing. generally stripping is better( taking small tufts and pulling them out). make sure he is getting a good diet and it should be ok. if its real bad and worrying you then find someone who knows terrier near you, failing that a dog salon( will probably cost abit though). a picture would prob help. atb
  2. i don't know anyone with a new one(in germany i don't know anyone with a moderator!!) but i am very surprised to hear that swarowski are having problems like this(sounds like the prism is done for). i would speak to the dealer or swaro direct( the number is on another thread about the scopes. they are normally very good to deal with, the best of luck.
  3. i had a mate in germany who had a problem with a swarowski scope( and a zeiss) they were both quite old.one was sent away and repaired free of charge, the other replaced with an up to date model. this bit is irrelevant but a sign of quality i think. the same chap found a pair of binos 8x56 while staliking in scotland, lying in the heather.all green but when cleaned up in perfect workin order.they found out the guys address and he sent them to him.he was very surprised.(they had been there for over fifteen years!!!)
  4. good stuff, nice to see someone taking the time to promote youngsters into the sport.
  5. there are some in the for sale section in shropshire.patx russel( as rabbiting terrier???). will the dog be worked??
  6. i tend to use lyvale pigeon express ( no6 30 gramm) for everything, except of course fowl . bb's for the geese. the penetration is not the killer but the shock( not organ damage) and so a 2mm cartridge will kill rabbit and even fox at the right range( 15-25m = first shot when bolting charlie). no6 for me for most shooting. atb for the new year lads and lassies.
  7. some dog walker has been watching cuntryfile( i know thats not the proper spelling, but i hate john craven after that episode about hunting with dogs ) hope the landowner was ok about it all( some might get touchy about the plod turnig up). atb for the new year lads.
  8. if you want an all rounder then so be it( digging for a rabbit included),you will soon learn to "hear" what quarry he is on( my terriers were far more excited/agressive with fox, badger and raccoon). either way you may need to dig him out. my pup is just starting to go to ground too, just over seven months( i shant send him but won't discourage it either, allthough i feel he is too young for "proper quarry")he seems to think not when you dug him out did it smell of fox? i would take the advice given above and get a collar on him.( if you have a mate that has a box you may be able to save th
  9. first generation should be ok.after that i would see to getting another blood in( another good worker). atb
  10. woemen are like that sometimes sounds like she is not quite in season.try again the next day.
  11. these are very commonly used in germany. i would try frankonia. e bay may well have a few. a mate recently got a nash rucksack( carp fishing gear i think) which i saw on e-bay for around £40. a good sturdy bit of kit for the money and waterproof( alot of roe sacks only have a liner). if you are not bothered about the traditional look army surplus gs bergan should do the trick( silvermans of london??). good luck.
  12. hope the man is ok. goes to show that a first aid kit( and the knowledge of how to use it)belongs in the gear. good thinking with the gps( have to look if my phone has stuff like that ) all is well that ends well
  13. i had a 4-16 x50 on a 8mm mauser( not the best choice for the caliber i know ) couldn't fault it. kept zero, not bad in low light(night shooting pigs by moon not lamping),good adjustment. sold it on the rifle.
  14. go and see any gun dealer who sells swarowski, they will take it from there. you pay alot for these scopes but the service is excellant!!! if its too much of a job they will replace it. good luck and let us know how it works out bud.
  15. a top bloke by the sounds of things(digbert).good to know there are terriermen like you about still. the guy probably didn't have the balls to come and fetch the bitch and has no right to her
  16. i take it that this is the basis of you theory? due to one man mating the wrong dog the whole line failed over 15 years? surely this dog was not the only sire over that time after say...a couple of years someone must have noticed? it sounds to me that a good dog/litter was suceeded by dogs who were not up to the job, disapointing you and your mates (understandably). that you have taken it upon yourself to find a better dog than the stock you now have and are getting frustrated..... some of the lads here have told you they have good dogs,go and see them work. i fear the standard is overall
  17. a friend has one for his lad for exactly that, god the boy can hit them!! a good start for any youngster.
  18. basic training and consequence,he needs to know that aggresion is not acceptable to anyone. puppy classes can be a big help with getting him started. i find that keeping them tired makes life easier( playing). i don't think that catstration is the key. i also am not sure that a dog from working stock should be kept purely as a pet( although good nerves and even temperament should be a goal of breeding in all workers). get the dog out and work him as best you can,do him justice. ratting, beating, bushing are not his intended job but the little dogs make good all rounders imho,he will l
  19. i would aggree with both p***y and the opening post to a degree. those who breed dogs need not pay attention to others standards,as long as thiers are as high as thay think possible. those starting out who wish to buy a pup are often let down by irresponsible breeding out of failed/unproven/defective dogs. i would always try to get a dog from a known source if at all possible.if you can't then its down to TRUST and that is a known human failing i'm afraid. men who don't stay true to the dogs( and thats what it boils down to,irrespective of breed or x) are not terrier men or sports
  20. splendid read mate, i know what you mean about just as excited getting someone else onto the shot. i set my brother on his first fox not long back, his first fowl and game birds. now he is mad for it and bought his first shotgun yesterday i can just as much enjoy a day out watching mates take good sporting shots( even if i dont get a bird presented),some how it makes you proud to be with them doesn't it??? ( maybe just me ). atb for the new year lads and girls.
  21. well done jake, i bet he loved it. nothing inspires like sucess! i hope he dressed the birds too. atb
  22. the differance IS the size of the "bore"/"guage"( the barrel) it is based on the pound of lead. i.e. a 12 bore shotgun is so named because 12 balls of lead which are of barrel diameter will make one (english) pound of lead or 454grams. a 20 guage will make 20 balls of lead= 1lb and so on..
  23. nice one mate, i love foxing in the snow. look like a nice bunch of russels you have.
  24. i use about 20 decoys, 2 floaters, stealth ghost net,2 hide poles,a good seat, face veil, lots of carts and a flask of coffee with lots of honey:thumbs: don't forget a good dog( even a crap one will keep the feet warm though )
