  1. they are bred in differant lines just as any other terrier. some on the moors use them only on pig and deer and breed them big and with huge torso's( named heide terrier). i have seen them around 13" tts and some breed them at that per se. a breeder iknow has about 12 at home all the time( 5 or six in the house at a time) some in the garden and some in the kennels etc, he knows who gets on with who and when they are zoning in.i have never seen them fight each other yet. just to add they all work together on pigs, fox, badger, raccoon and deer no problems at all,nor do they bother with other
  2. good looking pup mate. good luck.
  3. i have seen mv work( a good friend has one under hawk and gun) and was very impressed by their elegance. i particularly like the wire haired ones. the germans seem to think they have problems with the temperament( gun shy, water shy) which i have never seen/noticed. mostly these problems are due to training( man fault not the dog). i don't think they are as hard as the gwp/gsp but that may lie with the digs i have seen work and not the breed. there was a thread about them a couple of months ago in this section( panna started or was quite active if i remember rightly???). atb
  4. thanks bud. how are you doing? did you have a litter from that wee ferret yet?
  5. a mate takes his border bitch out with the lurcher and she catches the "odd" one too. i take my pup out when lamping,it gets him out, used to the rifle and lamp, he marks rabbits in cover that i have not seen and finds the ones shot that i can't. a usefull little helper( how often have we all searched for bunnys in long grass??). i have no intention of "running" him but if he catches one its in the bag( and the rabbit quealing is worth sitting down for ten min in case reynard has heard it ) i don't think its important what we do with the dogs as long as do something that can make the dog
  6. all of the named dogs are "bracken" are hounds( including the teckel). also that roe deer are not mentioned, who often produce very complicated follow ups( back tracking, slipping out/in etc) but are by decree of the clubs/verbaende are not ALLOWED to be followed up by bgs/hs ( seen as lower game and not worthy of the dog ) this causes controvesry in the clubs and is i'm told ( by a very experianced forst meister and handler of bgs/hs for over forty years and has done seminars on blood trailing in your country and sweden,denmark.........) for exactly this reason. once again i agree totally
  7. hi all, my brother is looking into buying a 17hmr and has been reccomended the mossberg. at £260 screw cut seems a bargain( synthetic/stainless). i have been told the action etc is made by cz. i realise you often get what you pay for and wondered if anybody has or has tried one? any info welcome. yis waidmann
  8. i have 26 unpolished hemp nets 3 ft for sale( brand new). had kept them for people who wanted them after xmas but have not gotten back in touch, so back up for sale. £2.50 each or £60 for the lot. pick up in telford( shropshire) prefered but will post at buyers cost( around £5 at a guess?). pm if interested. thanks for reading, waidmann.
  9. my first synthetic stock was bought last year( always had wood) its a cz style in 22lr. i love it and would definately choose another over wood. i like the traditional look of wood but plastic/laminate are far more practical. as is the stainless steel opposed to blued.
  10. that my friend is rubbish.i know of blood hounds chasing the same deer for three days( after a "killing shot from a marksman" which took off the tail only!!!!!!!!!!!). this is trained into the dog( verleit faehrten, crossing of live trail to throw the dog. indeed a sau crossed my 100hour trial and was ignored by the dog and not even seen by me, iwas informed by the three judges behind me after the job was done!!!) any dog is as good as his experiance and training. if the dog knows the job in and out he will track THAT deer untill it or he is no longer capable of moving another inch, be
  11. this post started this morning, within minutes you were advised to take him to the vets. not being able to see/asess the dog its probably the best thing to say as it does sound as though he may be quite ill. could be a cold or it could be some sort of allergic reaction.... i don't know from here and you don't know either,if you did you would not have asked..... now you have taken your time taking the advice given( if at all) and are getting arsey about people telling you( if quite bluntly) what they think. i have read a coupl of threads from you and it seems to go the same way. if you
  12. why would a terrier not be able to follow an older trail?( i have done 100 hour trails as tests/trials with teckel and jagd terrier have the same). the only limitation to a small dog especially the teckel is if it comes to the chase( this should be identified at the very beginning before collaring the dog( clearing of shot placement, angle of penetration, hair book, ground sighn,blood/sweat)these are the first and most important parts of the job in hand.only then can i decide if i or the dog are capable of completing the trail( poss of a chase, species etc). i agree that the bavarian and hannove
  13. wind and movement are a real givaway. its not easy to get a fox under 40m at the best of times.if you can find someone near you to show you how to use the caller that may help. good luck
  14. follow the runs/rides if need be bud.dug out rabbit warrens, wood piles, straw bales, drainage pipes are also good places to look if you don't have any earths( very wet ground). good luck.
  15. now i'm not being funny but if you are concerned about the dog why are you typing on here?( over 20 min???) and why are you happy to wait untill saturday? i know i bloody wouldn't i don't want to ride the point leanne( i don't know you and am only concerned for the dog) but if his coat is falling out( presumably for some time),he is wetting in his sleep, being sick, apathic then get to the fu--ing vets!! p.s. could it be you have been using some kind of medication on him? teetree oil may help with the skin but not the other symptoms
  16. how old is the pup? will the black and white terrier go to ground? i would ( if the pup is old enough and in your eyes"up for it") let him do the job alone and just use the older dog to confirm the earth is empty( if reliable to ground). if doubling up the dog behind can push the other into the fox,can seal the stop end( suffoacation) the list goes on... i presume you want to work the dogs alone in the future and so would start off that way. good luck and let us know how it goes. p.s. make sure you know how to use the finder reliably before testing it to ground if in doubt there will
  17. when was she due? is there a possibility she has been caught? sometimes the sighn is mild and you don't notice as much blood( especially when outdoors). atb
  18. if thats taffy( user name on here from welspool) i have his tel number and would give him a ring for you(just to make sure he wants you to have it ) i bought my prt from him around june time. do you have one of the litter? dai jones bred. pm me if i can help.
  19. there are a few jagds in the uk so i'm told but i know of none personally. a good working terrier all round. what are you planning on using it for if i may ask?
  20. we had a very similar set up in germany( jagd terrier over, teckel underground).only the grill is left in place) not many work badger in these set ups that i have heard of,although in france and belgium its still the way you describe. how tall is the dog to the shoulder? the ears look a little long(compared to the german terriers i know),but looks a cracker and i hope he comes on well for you mate yis
  21. if as stated the fox was mange ridden then (although by no means the right tool for the job!!) a clean kill with an air rifle is better than letting it suffer. the germans have a saying " any safe shot is just when the animal is deadly sick" (loses a bit in translation ). and indeed the european court sees the welfare of an animal above the firearms legislations. for example a bull severly injured can be shot by a hunter( who posses firearms ONLY for hunting)and are often called out by the police to do so( higher powered weapons, police use 9mm para and would have to get too close). i'm
