as already said mate try to get some help( and a dog that can show yours the way). its good crack but i would not like to hear that you lose the dog due to inexperiance. atb
-
try to find a syndicate that suits you,you can get in around £200 for a year. good luck.

you will knock the odd ones up mate but a dog will be more effective. atb

as mentioned above find out the habits of the quarry( where are they feeding, lying up) as boar are very mobile this can be hard(they will use the same routes as foxes and lying up places will be common between different families). wallows are good spots to lay up( the tracks to and from them are better as you will discourage them from using sites). baiting is good if a high seat is close by boar will find maize a spade deep, this keeps them at one spot for a while allowing you to dicern which you want to shoot.be carefull not to shoot the lead sow( not the first!!!and not necessarily the bigge

i have a polecat jill and a jill out of her which is albino, both work well. the guys i go with have a mix of jills and hobs( hobs disturbing the net more imo) and they all work well too.( eleven ferrets in all). white and sandy are better to see in cover but my poley jill is the favorite as long as they do the job i'm not fussed about the colour. happy ferreting all.

getting a dog used to the sound of a gun should start at an early age( ideally with the bitch).often the gun is fired too close to the dog.once shyness has set in it can be difficult to remedy. start by firing the gun a long way off ( 100 meter) and move closer( keep the dog busy the whole time( retrieving/bushing/playing) keep at it untill the dog shows no response to the gun at close range, often the coupling of shot game with the sound will help. good luck.

great all round dogs(blood trailing)with a good quick mind(problem solving).can be very hard dogs( quarry wise)and very loyal( causing some of the problems above).as with any dogs they must be trained with consequence, they are bred to hunt and not get bored. if you get a dog/bitch from good working stock and train it well you will have a top class gundog/rough dog i have not owned one myself but have helped train 3( and 3 shorthaired).very keen to learn and hard working. having shot over many of these i can say they were sociable and great retrievers. the standard seems to getting very big(

i'm sure that a whippet can be trained to retrieve.they are bred to hunt by sight, gundogs need nose. needless to say some will do both( and well). atb

your best bet is a local farmer.all types of grain will do it too( oats, maize and wheat were favorites). cattle or sheep mineral stones are a good puller too. atb p.s. if feeding regularly i would build a feeding table.reduces risk of parasite transfer and lost feed.

the problem here is the paper. one would think that a responsible editor/reporter would want to get both sides of the story,as the perpetrator is dead the next stop would be an organisation which represents the hunting comunity. the only response should be a letter of complaint/clarification to the paper( highlighting the problems foxes can cause to the public. emptying bins, carrying diseases, damage to valuble animals/livestock, damaging greens, bunkers etc etc...) this should be done by someone versed in the press soonest( in germany each sector has a press man/woman who takes responsibili

i have two stainless steel stab gloves as worn by butchers/slaughtermen. i have used both( worked as a slaughterman and butcher for years) but will not be going back into the job due to arthritis( cold and wet is no good ). one is red band( size medium)3/4 long( nearly to the elbow) as new. the other is blue band(size large) and normal glove type. i would prefer face to face( try them on before you buy them)but will post at cost. i'm looking to swap for decoy( pigeon, cam nets etc)gear.but will consider anything to do with hunting. cheers. pm if interested and i'll send any pi

we normally drop some corn into the shallows. keeps them busy trying to find it,as long as they find some they will come back.just not too much at once( we feed twice a week at the moment). if a hopper is to be used i would put it in the water, bearing in mind that alot of food may be wasted. the raft is a good option where possible, keeping the duck away from predators but allowing other birds to feed.

the germans call the small agressive boar "hosenflicker" ( trouser holer!) as they tend to be quite happy to bite on you, this description is normally used between 30 and 50 kilo. how do you locate the dogs if they pull up a pig? i am in no way saying what is right or wrong, but doubt that this style of hunting would be possible in our/european enviroment( i must admit i wish it were!!!!). pretty much the only thing we have that would come anywhere near is the following up of wounded pigs which can get a little touchy.( a good blood trailing dog will follow only the wouded pigs trail who is i

had a similar problem with a break barrel combination( 30,06 12g) due to hardend grease behind the firing pin.never had any probs with bolt action though.as mentioned above you cant be too carefull when loading/unloding any weapon( a friend of mine put a .300 win mag through the back seat of an x-trail while loading a blaser 93,exited the car at the wheel arch missing another chap by about a foot.bad practice turned very lucky!!) let us know what happens please.

i have limited experiance of hunting pigs, the idea always being to get them on there feet and moving to guns( drueckjagd)along with deer, fox, raccoon and enok.this being a very effective method to controll a population in forestry etc. belive it or not there are also pigs over kilo mark in germany( where the majority of my hunting has taken place) and i would say that on a number of occasions smaller dogs have "held" or "spun" pigs untill i could get there and "ease" the situation with pistol or knife( i must admit the pistol is my prefered method of dispatch, but if given the choice of shooti

smooth coat puppies (to big for ground work)
waidmann replied to patterdaddy's topic in General Talk
not sure if they would be spannable,i'm willing to come around and check those puppies for you.they look well formed fit enough to me me,if they cant go down at least they can work the covers for you. all is not lost. if in doubt get them checked out -
genetic mutations will occur every now and again but they seem to be the kind of colours which come from released rabbits. i have one ( sticks out like a sore thumb as he is white, bold as brass sitting on a stubble field) which looks otherwise like a hare. i'm trying to get close enough to see if it has red eyes( i wouldn't like to shoot a genuine albino without taking a photo of it alive ) not that it would taste any different i guess.

i agree with the above post. its all in the setting of the net. i have some 10z nylon although 90% of my bets are spun poly ( 3ft,3.5 ft and four foot) all are 2inch mesh and all purse and hold. busy making 3 foot hemp nets now. imho spun poly is the best stuff to make them from( as far as knotting and handling of the finished net). whatever the net i hope it catches well bud.
-
spun poly 500 gram for 9,95 is ok( bridport nets). i'm starting on hemp now. if you order then take a few as postage is about a fiver. atb

as above, if it fits fine. try before you buy is the motto. the decision is whether side by side, over and under, pump, semi try to get the gun which suits your shooting.i prefer s/s but many find o/u more versatile. good luck and enjoy the sport.

if he is otherwise obiedient i would try him on the long lead.he knows his name and its just the must do that is failing. don't forget he is only a pup, keep it fun and interesting. try moving away from him when you call( a few paces backwards when you have his attention). mine is very interested in other dogs and kids( teething too) so i have to watch him like a hawk. ifhe starts showing interest in other things i try to get him before he starts to move off, if i dont think it will work i wont call but walk away at an angle and play with his ball( fur, rope )on my own while squealing with gl
