Not to just play devil's advocate, but I don't get why you are all jumping up and down about it at all. The number of fox attacks on kids is tiny, there are plenty more injuries caused by badly socialised surrogate-kid terriers and many many people are killed by deer. So whether or not foxes need to be controlled in urban areas I don't think child attacks is any meaningful basis to argue from as it's so bloody uncommon, if it was common it wouldn't make the news would it and it would be just another event like the thousands of people hurt when pissed etc.

How come everyday the sun shines the fields are full of people walking their dogs, but whenever it's a bit drizzly or cold you strut about all on your tod? Is this the same in your area because it puzzles me what these people expected when they got dogs in the first place, there are literally 10X the number of walkers on a warm day and there is something worrying about that.

I don't mind if my nuggets contains organs etc, just like sausages as long as it tastes nice as I think people are too bloody squeamish about what they eat and I hate seeing anything go to waste. My biggest pet peeve with chicken isn't processed (which doesn't contain the guts btw!) it's when people buy a roast and leave half the meat on the carcass, you can make sandwiches for days on what's left.

imo I wouldn't want a 5.25" blade, all my knives are 3-4" and I have never had a situation where a bigger blade would make anything any easier but that's just me. That does look a decent enough knife. I have one of these http://www.moonrakerknives.co.uk/roselli.htm but I got mine at the midlands game fair years ago and got it a lot cheaper than on there.

If you don't want to bait the area for a while and wait it out, I would personally just walk the edges of the woods/hedges at first light or evening and get them as they are roosting. But surely if they are a pest to the spuds you will see them in the fields? So if the first ideas don't work then just stalk them if you can, good luck.

My mum died when i was 6 of cancer, my dad had a kidney out for cancer but then it spread and he went back for major surgery and was in the IC unit for 10 weeks. I visited a lot thinking 'why do I bother coming to see a vegetable?' and thought it would just be kinder to let him die then face the future he would have after everything. Turned out I was wrong and 4 years later has a normal life, so I understand why some people are overly optimistic and hopeful sometimes but I agree that people need to be able to die, especially witht he population as it is.

Thanks for that mate, what do you do for training in terms of the other activities like high jump/long jump? I share the same opinion as you and gnasher and I am not interested in competitions, more just looking for an activity he sees as a game that can burn some energy. When he was taken to the rescue he looked like he was on steroids (from what i was told, I didn't see him then) and the more muscle he has lost the faster he has been, which to be honest I prefer an agile dog to a bulky one for what we do day-to-day. But all I know is that he was never walked and kept on a treadmill, but he g

What diet do you feed? Also what kinds of training do you do because I would like to have an activity I can do with my staffy, he seems to enjoy all the kinds of things I have seen in competitions so I might see what we can do.

I agree with cheap and cheerful, but can understand some might want a nicer one if the cheap ones don't feel right. I got a black widow on a whim but after taking catties more seriously realised I didn't like it at all, so I made one this weekend and it's just a classic 'dennis the menace' number and so far I love it. I have kept it looking as natural as possible, which I like and if someone sees it poking out my pocket then it just looks like what it is, a stick.

Used to have to gut rats before feeding to my hawk, I decided to stick to quail after the first batch. But that's the only thing so far that's been too much.

Share Your Stories Of The Roughest Pubs You Drank In !!
Ratreeper replied to rough dog's topic in General Talk
Haven't got much of a story, couldn't even get in to the local pub where I grew up because it was full of p***y's. My mate could have told the story a bit like this 'walked in, saw a fist, woke up outside' -
Just wondering if there is anything I can to reduce the amount of healing time for the scratches my dog gets all over his stomach and legs? I can't really walk him anywhere without being around gorse, brambles etc as you might expect but I have never known a dog to get so scratched up by it, he has almost no fur on his underside so has no protection from any of it. After a while will his skin toughen up to it? Also, he gets little pussy pimples where the gorse has pricked his skin that come up the next day but disappear quickly, is there any creams or anything someone could recommend to he

I used to breed bettas a few years ago, they are very easy to look after. They can live in very low oxygenated water, but I would still recommend using a small filter to keep the water clean, however make sure the water is as still as possible or the longer fin types will die quickly from trying to swim against the current and it's not natural for them. Also don't let them see a reflection, they will display and look nice but the stress of it will likely kill them. Other than that, I used to feed mine on blood worms and mosquito larvae, it's a good all round food and I think the blood worm hel

If i'm honest i think they made some of it up. Like the guy in the wheel chair that got hit by a car. Then the dog put him in the recovery position, covered him with a blanket, went and found his phone then limped off to the nearest hotel and got help.........yet the f*****g thing couldn't see a car coming????.... I was thinking the same thing. My dog is right handed with the right swirls, but won't wake up long enough to yawn so I think that evens out to useless f****r again

I found loads of steel bb's at a car boot, much cheaper than the rip-off prices I find in shops and these ones were bigger, heavier and much more useful. So if you are lucky you might find some, but what I want to know is what this bloke had 100's of bb's for, there must be a cheaper way of buying them other than those selling for slingshots.

doesn't sound like sport to me, if I understand you right then they didn't even get a chance to get any real height so what's the point in slaughtering 70 birds? Either way I hope they don't go to waste, one of the nicest meats imo.

Thanks for the comments, don't worry he will get his chance to help when out and about. My girlfriend doesn't like walking alone at night but feels a lot safer with him around which is a plus, also ironic since he is the softest bugger I have known and has so far only guarded the house against small birds. But I am sure he will come in handy when bushing with the lurcher I might get in 6-12 months depending on how things go. But I will just have fun with him, surprising what types of dogs can catch the odd bunny now and again so as long as we both have fun that's the main thing. Although he ha

The greyhound isn't mine by the way, it's a retired racer of my dad's.

After a long gap I have finally got a dog again, but it's the last breed I would have considered and honestly staffs wouldn't have made my top 50 breeds. But I have spent a lot of hours volunteering at a local rescue over the past few months and I have to say this chap stood out and has settled in perfectly, also for every 10 dogs they take about 9 are staffies thanks to chavvy, over-breeding scum (they over-breed the dogs too) so they need good homes. He has lost a lot of muscle being kept in a kennel for almost three months and now has a more athletic build which I prefer, he also has a

Wanted Wanted - Ferret court /chicken run or aviary S.England
Ratreeper posted a topic in Miscellaneous
As the title suggests, I am after a second hand or cheap ferret court or aviary, ideally 6' tall or bigger. It's to house ferrets and I am based in Dorset but can travel a reasonable distance if it can be broken down to fit in a saloon sized car. Please send photos & dimensions either via pm or on this thread and a price you are after. I am after something of a reasonably large size, not the little triangle shaped chicken runs with a little sleeping area. Thanks -
How can you tell the age from that photo? But I agree with what you say, you need to give the dog a chance and try and few options like a silent whistle if you are worried about calling
-
It would sound like a good idea if it worked, but I agree with those that cannot trust those who are given the title 'expert' when history seems to show they are all ignorant and very, very prejudice against certain 'types'. But at least they are targeting the owners and not singling out random breeds, or that is what is implied anyway which is a nice change of pace from the dangerous dogs act.

Oh yeah? And a few Dodo's I suppose Jesus, Dorset used to be the best kept secret till a load of mouthy townies moved in and put in on the telly and on the internet, Ratreeker, are you Hugh fernly feckwit?? Good point, they will disappointed since I think I just saw the last bunny keel over from myxy and I think the deer was actually a skinny horse

Haven't seen it but sounds good I will look out for it, see if I can catch up on 4od

Ditto Where did you move from? I've moved a lot in the last few years, but generally lived in the Midlands which is the wrong type of agriculture for my liking. I saw my first wild goshawks today while out exploring which was cool and I am more and more certain the deer I nearly hit was a red, which would be another first for me. Might have been a sika. I am not the best at identifying deer to be fair, has anyone else seen any reds in this area? It was a glorious big bugger either way so I am glad I saw it
