  1. Any idea which Gamo it is? They're a pretty prolific maker with guns at all ends of the spectrum. Non of them are really what you'd call quality but some can be used to a reasonable extent to knock over the odd rabbit or whatever. Any chance of a pic to help identify what it is? Cheers.
  2. There's not too much modern stuff that I'm really taken with, to be honest. I like simple, strong and basic. I've tried probably most makes and I like the older ones with a nice simple 30-30 or generic mildot ret. I'm currently waiting for Hawke to send a replacement for the broken one I sent back last week but that will probably just break again. They really don't seem to be built to last. Should've got a Nikon... The scope I keep coming back to is an old EB 6x44 that I've had since about 1990. Solid, simple and utterly reliable. I can't be doing with fragile shit with lots of bells a
  3. No problem, don't mention it. Oh sorry you didn't. Makes me remember why I don't reply to too many posts these days.... Edit to add...... Where the f**k did manners go these days? Yes, I've had a drink but f**k it anyway.
  4. Hello, Chris. Most of it's just common sense spannering and a little bit of DIY nouse. Also depends on how skilled you are with stripping the thing down and working on it's bits and bobs. It seems that most new guns these days can do with a bit of a strip and a fettle (not just low cost gear....) so firstly you need to get the thing in bits and see what's what. Look for any rough edges anywhere and smooth them out but don't go mad. It's a lot harder to put metal back than it is to take out. Just a little rub here and there with emery cloth to ease any whitness marks. The lube that
  5. I should probably wait for the reply but I'll be very suprised if it's the Nikon. They're built to last. That said, my shooting pal Paul has been more than very happy with his MTC 10x44 on his HW90 and I'm impressed by it's quality for the price. Very clear optics and easy to use. I don't like the fussy ret though and it's not a scope that I'd choose for myself but it's a personal thing. I prefer a good old 30-30 or a generic mil-dot but that's just me.
  6. There's one permission that I shoot that has a golf course on one side and a fairly busy road and footpath on the other. The rabbits are so used to seeing people and hearing the cracks from the golf clubs and noise from the road that it's easy to get three or four shots off before the rest give it legs and that's useing a springer.
  7. In my experience there's not really too much difference between either of the two 'out of the box'. They're both first class and only you can decide which one's better. The one that feels right for you is the one you should go for. Both guns may benefit from a little bit of fettling but either should shoot pretty well as they are.
  8. ha ha really are they that bad? I know that they have their advocates, Frank but I'm really not one of them. They're one of those guns that many folks started off with when they come into shooting so lots of folks have jolly happy memories of shooting their first whatever with one which is fair enough but they're shite and always have been. The triggers crap, the build's rubbish, the design is deeply flawed, they're a pig to work on for such a simple springer and even after they stopped building the shonkers in the UK, they're still trying to keep the name BSA (British Small Ar

  10. As above, go for it. To be fair though, a pointy stick is better than a Lightning.
  11. Personally I really like them. In fact their 8x56 will be my next scope when funds allow. Decent quality and built to last with fairly basic features. Less to go wrong IMO.
  12. Explains why I like this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5wUr4Lut4A
  13. Skot? Were you potty trained at gun point or is this an early/late April fools joke?
  14. Those hollow points would be handy for ratting around barns but I think I'd stick to the dome heads for general exploding.
  15. Will the bolt that holds it not just tighten up enough to take out the slack?
  16. Mineis better than the one I had 10 years ago I know what you mean, Andy. There's always exceptions but as a general rule, the older ones were better built and finished than the ones that are being produced now.
  17. Have a look at the used market especially if the gun's off for a tune anyway. An older 97 (or 77) are better built than the stuff they're slinging together these days.
  18. This has got me thinking..... Is this phenomemon exclusive to Yorkshire or do you lads in other areas also have problems with fully kitted up rabbits? Let's hope they don't get tooled up as well or we're fecked!!
  19. that must be dem black ones I've seen then. Probably. They seem to be having some supply issue though, I think, because with some of them their kit doesn't seem to fit properly and there's a gap between the suite and the helmet that a well placed shot can get through. Watch out for them and go for a neck or spine shot.
  20. I see you're in Yorkshire? Me too. Quite a few of the rabbits on a couple of my permissions have been getting wise and are now wearing full body armour and kevlar helmets. Try using AP rounds or high explosive pellets. They work for me.
  21. .177 is roughly 10% less efficient than .22 at converting the energy from the compressed air into kinetic energy in the pellet so it does need a bit more wallop to get the same power in like for like kit so yes, there is a little more recoil. In the real world however, even with identical gear shot one after the other you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference especially if (as has been said) the rifle's been set up properly. Your choice of an SFS98 is a very good one, whichever caliber you choose.
  22. Who's your stab in the dark? No one at all Just a feeling from the bitter sounding comments that maybe the poster felt that the world owed them something somehow and that they maybe had a bit of an axe to grind. Just a feeling, nothing else.
  23. This is just a wild stab in the dark but I don't think Joe Schmoe drives a 2013 Audi There really are some sad, petty and pathetic sad sorry excuses for human beings around. Some folks really need to grow up and get some balls.
  24. Well after a quick search I've found the stocks retailing at £299 on ebay so the trade price will be less. Add to that the trade value of a 77 and the £900 asking price does sound pretty steep for what sounds like a fairly normal tune. I've never heard of them before so I may be doing them an injustice as I don't know exactly what they do but it is heavy money.
