That's handy!! They're only five minutes drive from my house!

Same as you, mate. Or maybe the 3-9x40. I really like the look of their BDC ret. Nice and simple with clear uncluttered aim points.

Nice one, thanks for that.

Hi, folks. After asking on here a little while ago about scopes that hopefully won't fall to bits after five minutes on a springer (Hawke.....) some of you mentioned Vortex and after doing a bit more research, I really like the look of them but I'm struggling to find a UK dealer. Any help would be great. Cheers.

Maybe a washer or shim to take up any slack on the screw, or perhaps a little padding between the stock and the action? Even PCPs recoil a little bit because of the hammer action and the pellet moving down the barrel. Any movement between the action and stock is not best unless it's been designed to be that way but from looking at the FX as pre-charge, I can't see that being the case. Like I said, I'm no expert on these so don't take my word as gospel. Maybe best to contact FX direct.

I know feck all about the FX but any movement there on any gun isn't good. Find a way to nip it up.

Hello, mate. The differences were only cosmetic, the mechanics were the same.

Just Got This Off Me Dad
andyfr1968 replied to fats's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Cancer's got a very nasty grip on my Dad right now and anything and everything he's ever given me is precious. Keep it in the family unless you're desperate. -
If it's a Mk2 then the original finish would have been blued all over (I think). They painted the trigger blocks on later versions from about the Mk4 but even then the rest of the rifle will have been blued. Someone please correct me here but I think I'm about right.

Spring air rifle shooting.

When will this ever get pinned??? Come on, Mick. PM sent -
Hello, mate. They're one of the best springers ever made in my opinion. I have one and really rate it, it's the second one I've had the first one many years back on FAC and a sub 12 that I have now. What sort of tuning do you have in mind? You need to be very careful with these as one of the hardest things about them is keeping them below the limit if it's not on ticket.

So Much For Customer Service......

I know you're right, mate but I just don't want the thing anymore and I have no faith that their products won't let me down again if they offer a replacement. If they did agree to repair it I wouldn't want to use it again and I couldn't sell it on with a clear conciense knowing that it will probably just break again. In the very short time that I've actually used the thing, firstly the adjuster turrets went south which they fixed and returned. Then shortly after I got it back the focus ring came lose which I fixed by taping it up and then the windage adjuster developed a mind of it's own. -
I know what you mean, Mick but with variable mag scopes I always tend to set them at around 8x and just leave them there. I also always use high mounts as I've quite a long neck so it suits my build fit wise. It's a good all round spec for me, plenty enough mag and a big enough lense to cope in low light. To be honest though, now I've stuck my good old 6x44 back on I can't really see the point of change just for it's own sake. I did like that SR6 ret on the Hawke though it's just a shame that the rest of it is utter junk.

So Much For Customer Service......

I will contact them again, not that there's much point though. I got the thing from Guns International in Wakefield just before they shut down. They were practically giving them away, too cheap to pass up at the time. Turned out to be a total waste of money in the end though. I've never rated Hawkes. Nice features but shitty build. -

It is a bit vague ain't it, Mick. I think they're saying that if I can't find proof of purchase (which I can't) that they'll now charge for the repair or give me a 30% discount off another one of their garbage scopes. I've given up on it and them now. My kids can use it as a toy as it's no feckin' use on a rifle!! -
I contacted Deben again to let them know that their scope had packed up again after only a week or so of use and this is their reply. Talk about being fobbed off!!!! Hi Andy Thank you for your email, sorry to hear that you are having on-going problems with your scope. The following information applies to customers who have Deben products, but no longer have a proof of purchase. The proof of purchase is your warranty, without this, repairs are normally chargable, if that is, a repair is possible. Please return your scope to us and we will take a look at it for you, if repairs are not po

Thanks for the replys, lads. I do quite like the MTCs that I've seen but I think the Nikons are a little better built and I like their no frills style. The Nikko that I have in mind is the 8x56 Nighteater. Again quite basic but an ideal spec for what I need. I've never had anything to do with Vortex scopes before but I'll certainly check them out. Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry, I've no idea why my computer has decided to post this up three times....

I'm looking for a decent springer rated scope. Nothing fancy, just something that I can rely on. I'm currently useing my trusty old EB 6x44 with a fine 30-30 ret but I'd like something with a nice basic mil-dot ret or similar. I really liked Hawke's SR6 ret but I'm pissed off with Hawkes falling to bits. I'm leaning towards the Nikon Prostaf range or Nikko Sterling's Platinum's but any other sugestions would be very welcome. Up to around £200. Cheers.

I agree with Acuspell's post up to a point. .177 at higher power may seem a little pointless to a degree but in my own experience so long as the pellet's not flying in the trans-sonic region of around 1200fps and so long as the rest of your gear's set up and working properly it should be ok. Very flat shooting and very capable. Just my opinion from what I've used but I've got to say that the bigger calibers make more sense at higher powers for airguns. I do like my .20

The HW and AAs are about as good as you'll get but have a look at the Diana side levers too. Very under rated. As has been said, a springer when used correctly is every bit as accurate as a PCP. It takes a bit more work on the shooter's part though but for me at least, the satisfaction's well worth the effort.

With a starting price of two grand for a rifle that's only good for between 22 to 35 shots??!! Gun porn's all well and good but this one's shot it's load far too early.
