  1. I'm no expert Si, just a pedantic bugger who likes things to work properly and gets cheesed off with shoddy workmanship and poor assembly. What I've done to that PS could be done in an hour by anyone with commonsense and a bit of old fashioned care. I'm not singling out AA for flak because I think all the major manufacturers are remiss with QC but the inside of that PS was lubricated worse than my cheapy Cometa 300, all it needed was a few strokes of sandpaper and a bit of TLC to change things drastically. More importantly now, did the PS behave tonight? Mawders should be writing up a report
  2. I've not been able to do anything with Mary's 95 yet but all being well I've got some workshop time booked mid week. I'll keep you posted. My boys are made up with the Condor and the Xocet has turned out really nice, thanks for that. It took a fair bit of dicking about with a mis-match of parts but I'm very happy with the results!! Good luck with the Rapid, I know they're a properly capable piece of kit when set up right.
  3. Hows about an SLR, Darryl? It's been already mentioned in this thread, I know but if you're after something a bit different then why not? It's the best rifle (non PCP) that they ever made, IMO.
  4. Bugger..... It's too easy to do a double post on here when you're trying to edit the original. Stupid cider!!!!
  5. The older ones are much better built and finished. Edit....They were made in a time when engineers had the final say rather than accountants.
  6. I think Loguns ( or whatever they're called this week ) tip in at the most at 15.6 grains. My .20 HW90 shoots very well with them. Also H and N's FTTs and Baracudas are well worth a go. At around 11.4 and 12.7 grains respectivley. There doesn't seem to be too many crappy .20 pellets about apart from the Benjamins that crop up on ebay all the time. f***ing hopeless......
  7. Well I guess I've got my answer then. Shooter be sensible and shooter beware.
  8. Interesting thread this. One of my permissions has a pond quite close to the farmers house and he's mentioned a few times over the years about the noise Canadas make and could I do anything about it. As above, I've always politely had to decline as I thought it was not OK for me to use a sub 12. I no longer have either a FAC or SGC as I've no real use for them these days. I would have thought that at sensible ranges a head shot would do the job but I don't know the legalities.
  9. If memmory serves, they're not the same gun. I've had a look on Chambers web site and compared the two and it seems I'm right. This link may of of some use though, they still list some spares for them. https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24456/G27/
  10. If you don't like it don't watch it, no one is forcing you to. The "sponsorship" is there as these are the people that supply us with items to be able to do honest reviews and use in the field and they're on for 4 seconds each if you want timings. On another note, if there's nothing there to shoot then you can't shoot it, were looking for new permissions all the time as well as invites from other like minded people to enable us to get the footage for the vids. Darryl If you find yourselves down my way and have a little time for shooting just give me a shout. I've two permissions
  11. Interesting post. Rather than asking us what we'd like to see maybe you should tell us what you've got in mind. Best of luck with it.
  12. hi Andy if there was any comment i was anxious about,it was yours with your experience that comment means a lot to me! thank you so much! ooh you have made me blush thanks Andy i really appreciate your kind words Blimey!! Steady on, mate I'll bring my 'special' lube and some proper beer the next time I'm in Moonlight Valley Cheers!!
  13. What rifle is it? Sounds like the barrel may have taken a knock.
  14. Nicely done, Davy. You need to send HW the link for this because they haven't got a clue how to do this properly!!!
  15. Sometimes though, Skot, a gun's trigger will feel very different depending on if it's cocked or not. Good advice though
  16. I've never used that particular grease but it sounds ideal. I normally use a 50-50 mix of moly and graphite of if I can get it that really stickey open gear spray lube but I can never seem to find it locally.
  17. Good advice from Scot and Wurz. Your kit needs to fit you, not the other way around. Scot's advice with regards to your scope's position is spot on. Spring powered airguns are funny things. Unlike pretty much any other tool that's made to shoot something at a target down range (other than bows and crossbows) nearly all the recoil happens before the projectile's left the gun. First they snap backwards when the piston's realeased, then they kick forwards when the air is compressed and the piston slows against the compressed air and then the pellet starts to move down the barrel. There'
  18. If you're OK with fairly basic mechanical and workshop princilpes then you should't have much problem working on a 97, or any other HW springer for that matter. They are very straight forward to work on. Have a look on Youtube, there's plenty of tutorials that will take you through it but if you've any problems or questions then feel free to ask. Sorry, Elliott. I didn't take any pics and it's all safe and sound inside Simon's rifle now. There's not really much to show anyway. Spring with a top hat and a very nicely matched guide and the new piston seal. And also two types of grease.
  19. As I understand it the stage 2 has to be done by Sandwell themselves. There's rather more to it than just swapping a few parts.
  20. I've had mine now for sixteen years from new. I strip, clean and re-grease the ram every two or three years. The thing's fired tens of thousands of pellets and has never let me down, in all that time and all that use in all weathers I've never had to replace one single part. Just keep a light hold on it and the accuracy will be superb. They're the best break barrel rifle ever made, IMO, although there's plenty who will disagree. The older ones are better
  21. Hello, Hugo. As it happens, I've just fitted one of these very kits to Pianoman's own 97 and it's a really nice bit of kit. It came with a top hat, mainspring and a prefectly matched guide as well as the latest correctly speced piston head. It's very good value for money, IMO, although there may be a bit of a delay because HW are currently having supply issues with their new piston heads. Well worth the wait though.
  22. If you're happy with your rifle , Nick, then I think it's a classic case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If the correct lube has been used in the right amount then it should stay where it is. It's always worth stripping and re-lubing once in a while, it won't last forever. Depending on how much use it's getting then once every year or two will keep everything as it should be. It's not just the internal workings that need a little TLC, it's everything that can move. If it moves, it'll wear eventually.
  23. That's an impressive spread for any rifle, never mind one straight out of the box. I think you've got a keeper there, mate. Simon's 97 will take a good few hundred shots before it's properly settled down though and I've asked him to give it back to me for another check over the chrono just to make sure all's well and safe after it's all properly bedded in. In my experience, any new rifle (including the Prosport) will benefit from a little fettleing once it's bedded in a bit. It's always a bit of a guess working on a brand new gun as there's no evidence of what may not be working with w
  24. LOL!! I've no idea, Frank. The SFS kit came dry but going in dry's never a good idea. This could turn into filth.... A-hem.
  25. I can't coment on the V-Mach kit as I've never even seen one. Up until me joining this forum about four years ago I'd just been left to my own devices. I remember asking on here a long time ago about where I could get properly high quality mainsprings from as the Titan roundwire springs that I'd always used before had turned to crap. Sandwell came up and I've been useing their kit ever since and so far it's been spot on. I don't know how much Simon paid for the kit he got from Sandwell or how it compares to V-Mach for a similar set up. It'd be interesting to find out though :-)
