Hello, lads. Simon's tuning kit turned up earlier this week after a long delay due to HW's inability to supply Sandwell Fieldsports with the correct piston seal. All credit to Tony from Sandwell for stripping one of their own rifles to supply the correct part. Simon's 97 is of a very recent vintage, not brand new but near as damn it. It shot well enough as it was but it just didn't feel right. It was rather 'twangy' and the cocking stroke wasn't as smooth as it should be. The whole rilfe just felt a little rough around the edges but to be fair, it was still pretty bloody accurate.

Result!! As mentioned above, mask the checkering off if you want to sand it down then Nitromorse it then scrub it out with a toothbrush. Or just Nitromorse the whole thing and take out and damage where needed.

My 90 does Andy how do you tune a gas ram rifle? Iv been wondering it for a while now because you can't exactly polish the ram ends like te spring ends can you? There's not much that can be done with the ram itself, Lewis. Mine's been stripped and re-lubed and as far as I'm aware, that's about all that can be done internally. However, the piston skirt can still be improved upon. A little polish here and there can be of benefit if needed. It's not just about the power plant though. Does the cocking linkage rattle about? Are there any rough edges anywhere on the gun that will aff

You shouldn't need a spring compressor, it's not under too much pre-load if it's standard and shortening the trigger spring will make no difference at all to it's release weight.

Just stain the stock to your taste and linseed oil over the top. The stock's the least of your problems though. I was given a B2 a while ago and the thing was utterly f***ing useless as a rifle. However, after a good strip down, cleaned all of the crap out that was in there, dressed up all of the rough parts (which was pretty much everything), cutting the spring down so there was hardly any pre-load, new seals and a properly lubed up re-assemble, I did end up with a half decent rifle that has helped teach my boys how to shoot. I'm not having a go as it sounds like you were in the same

Niko Sterling Platinum Night Eater 8x56. Have a look here. It does have a basic mil dot ret though. I'm not sure if they do a 30-30. http://www.uttings.co.uk/Product/543/103348/nikko-stirling-platinum-nighteater-30mm-ir-8x56-rifle-scope/

I always do my own work, mate. I worked as a gunsmith many years back but these days I just enjoy tinkering with my own guns and I also look after a few friends rifles too. If you're OK yourself with a bit of spannering then you shouldn't have a problem working on your Webley, they're pretty straight forward and so long as to stick to common sence engineering practice you'll not go far wrong.

I used to really rate Titan round wire springs but sadly (like so many other things...) their quality's not what it once was. I had a few fail prematurely these past few years. Don't be tempted to fit an OX or similar, it'll over-spring your rifle and ruin it. The last few springs that I've fitted have come under recomendation from Sandwell Fieldsports and so far they've all been spot on. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

For most shooting I use domes but hollowpoints are great for roost shooting because at the close ranges I had a problem with over penetration for a while. Hollowpoints dont even give woodies the chance to flap Try a good flat head if over penetration's an issue. They tend to be more accurate and a bit cheeper too, which is nice.

I'm not so sure about this barrel cleaning thing. Until last year I'd never, not once cleaned an airgun's barrel. Never felt the need or have had any problems that would sugest that I needed to before. However.... I'd been having a random accuracy problem with my HW90. It would group fine for the most part but every ten or so shots would randomly fall a good inch outside of my zero check. I honestly thought it was me. Old age and poverty and all that crap!! As a last resort (and because I was bored and a bit pissed one night....) I decided to give it a good clean. So far, touch wo

who is the other member? That's for the rest of us to use our imaginations.... I enjoyed a lot of his posts but the bloke seemed to have some issues. He tried to play mind games by the use of inuendos and twisting what others had said as well as the use of what he probably saw as an intimidating vocabulary and also referances to classic literature. I would put money on that he's got a fair few psychology books floating around at home. I don't wish the guy any ill at all and I hope that he gets his head straight for him and his family's sake.

If I was looking to spend some of my hard earned on a decent springer then I'd be looking at a good used rifle at around two hundred quid, give or take. AA or German, around ten or more years old. Their build quality was way much better than it is today and if the gun's been looked after properly then all you'll need to fork out for is a good service at best. Just my opinion.

Your 97's now decayed into a pile of rust and sawdust, it's been so long!! Sunday or Monday's best for me, if that suits you? Paul may be along too with his lad. Your place or mine??

I've been wondering what was going on, Simon. It's been sat in the corner of my living room for so long that I'd stopped noticing it Edit to add... Are we out this weekend?
