Pleased To Meet The Pianoman

He's a good lad is our Simon, built for comfort rather than speed. Thanks for the compliment about my work, Scot. Cheers. -
Webley Xocet Advice Needed!!!
andyfr1968 replied to S2K's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Right then. Firstly sorry for the late reply, Brian. My head was in no state for a proper response before, I seem to keep on forgetting that I'm not twenty one anymore. Unless someone's fitted something daft to it then the spring shouldn't be under too much pre-load. About thirty to fourty mm is all that you should have to cope with. Here's a link that may help when you're stripping it. There's a small allan screw that needs to be taken out that holds the trigger spring. This needs to be removed before you release the spring. https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24558/Xocet/. As for gas r -
Nicely done. I'm a big fan of those Diana side levers

Webley Xocet Advice Needed!!!
andyfr1968 replied to S2K's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
PM recieved. Utterly knackered after a pretty mental weekend. Will reply properly tomorrowish. Cheers. Edit to add...Probably. -
How weedy are some folks?? My fourteen year old boy manages fine with my 90 and that tips in at a bit more than an and I don't mean for a few shots, that's carrying the thing around all day. My eleven year old can cope with the weight but he's not quite strong enough to cock it yet. I'm not having a go but it seems like some folks need to work on their technique where gun handleing's concerened.

In my experience AA are no better than HW these days. Engineers seem to have taken a back seat and accountants are doing the driving.
-
Sadly that's how a lot of standard HW springs look these days. The finish is shit and that's being kind. The discolouration on the piston seal is caused by the crappy grease used at the factory migrating forward into the compression chamber causing dieselling. It seems pretty much all new HWs need a bit of TLC to get them the way they should have been to begin with. Their (and other's) quality control's really gone south in recent years. Give it a good clean out and a proper re-lube. Dress the spring ends so that there's no rough edges and it all should be fine and if you can, seat bot

Try this link for the correct part https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24576/HW97/ but if it's just a normal 'o' ring then maybe a plumbers merchant or motor factors may be good.

I'm just happy that you're pleased with the outcome, Simon. At least there's some aspects of my life that I don't manage to f**k up!! SFS's kit came with a perfectly finished spring and a guide that was a spot on fit. They also sent out one of HW's latest spec. piston heads as well as a top hat although I understand that there's been some supply issues from HW's end recently regarding the piston heads. I don't know if this is still a problem though. They also included two types of grease that I'm not familiar with so I used my own molly-graphite mix. I'm sure that what they sent was prope

Well, I guess that's my next job then.

A Restoration To Remember

A really enjoyable read there and a top looking job too. There's a lot of satisfaction to be had in taking and old knocker and bringing it back to life. -
You had a drink, mate?

Over The Moon With My New .177 97Kt.
andyfr1968 replied to thursodog's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
It's graphite, Simon. A very good dry lube but it wears off easily when used dry. -
As above, there's no better, they're just different. Try both, only you can decide which one's best for you Simon. How's your 97 now?

That was one of the things that really spiked me, Mike. Money's been really tight this year and the Webley's turned into a really nice little rifle for my lads and to be honest I've taken it out a couple of times myself. When I thought he'd ruined it as at first it looked like the jaws had twisted up I did have a bit of a sense of humour failiure after all the work I'd put in to it. All sorted now though Thanks for the PM. I'll reply properly tomorrow. Edit to add... Only a couple of weeks back Oscar bagged himself eight rabbits with it and I only scored one with my 90

Thanks again, lads. Simon, if either one of them was going to f**k up I'd have put my money on Toby. That's not to say he's wreckless but he can be a bit of an air-head sometimes. Oscar's normally so studious and sensible so I guess it just goes to show that we can all screw things up sometimes. How are you fixed for this weekend? Your place or mine?? Saturday's best for me.
-
Thanks for the replys, lads. As said, no real harm done and Oscar's wiser from his cock-up. I guess I took it rather badly as my boys have always been instructed the same way that I was as a lad by my own Dad. RAF Regiment style. As I said, they've been regularly shooting with me for a good few years now and this is the first and only mess up by either of them so maybe I have become a little lax in my attitude and taken it for granted that they know the score. Never again!!! Cheers.

I went out shooting yesterday with my two lads(11 and 14) and my mate Paul and his boy (11). My two have been coming out with me for the last six or so years and they've been hammered by me from day one about basic gun control and how to handle a rifle. One of the most important safety things that I've drilled into them is DON'T PUT YOUR FINGER INSIDE THE TRIGGER GUARD UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO TAKE THE SHOT!!!!! Anyway, whilst doing some target practice before a mooch my eldest somehow forgot all he'd learnt over the years and managed to pull the trigger on his Xocet while the barrel was

That's good to hear, because first it was fishing shot, now its the wildfowlers turn, us next, did you find them as accurate Andy? They were really very good indeed until the bad batch I had and to be fair, I've not tried them in .20 since. They worked a treat in my .177 Diana 52 and a mate's .22 HW80 loved them. As mentioned above though, they really do need a clean barrel or they won't seem to group at all. I had a Diana which I bought back in 83 brand new, think it was a G80? used it to whack ducks on the water ways, might be wrong, it was a long time ago, Falcongit

Nothing to do with airguns, just a nice little snippet about good deeds.... A little while ago I posted on another forum that I was having an issue regarding work. It was an open question that a lot of folks would have seen. There were a good few folks who came forward to offer help but as is often the case it just turned out to be internet bullshit posted by time wasters. No one one here is being targeted there and thanks for your replys, lads I've never met Mick in person, we've only chatted on here and there and on the phone but the bloke's really gone out of his way to help me out

Relum Junior Advice ?
andyfr1968 replied to comanche's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
It'll be fine, mate. Pretty much everthing that's important happens within the first eight or so inchs in most springers barrels.
