This is interesting..... Firstly, Simon!! Shut up or I'll chop your extra length barrel down to size when you're not looking the next time we're out!!!! Ron, the barrels I have on the .177 90 and the .22 (which as Simon has correctly stated also originally came off a 90) are from the mid to late 90's. The .20, which I believe is a Walther barrel was bought by me five years ago and lives on my own rifle. I checked for a choke by gently pushing pellets through the barrels with a nylon rod to see if there was any extra restriction towards the end and there was none. Not a jot

Just to add.... I've three HW springers in the house right now. Two 90's, one in .20 and one in .177 and a .22 and none of them have choked barrels. I've checked them all.... Christ, I need to get a life!!!!.. That said, they're all a few years old.

That's not a 'tune', mate, it's a basic service and if you put moly grease at the front end of the piston it'll get in to the compression chamber and diesel like feck.
-
Alltogether now!! OH YES THEY ARE!. I feel all choked up now! :cray:

The barrels on HW springers aren't choked.

Sounds like it was found early, mate, and thank god for that!! I hope all goes well

If it's grouping correctly with a 12 inch barrel Wurz, leave it there. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

Hi, Rake. I don't know what's been done to your 52 but at 39ft-lbs it sounds like it's over sprung, mate. Take out whatever spring you've got in there and fit the best quality HW35 spec spring you can find. This will drop it to around 30 (.22) and make it nice to shoot again. Stuart, lovely shooting with those springers, mate

Indoor Spring Piston Rifle Practice With Si Pittaway.
andyfr1968 replied to zini's topic in Airgun Hunting
Aye, that was 1) my first heart and lung shot due to second guessing myself (13gr lightweight pellet) and 2) my first shot in anger with a ThunderBolt. On paper they're excellent through the TH208, I shouldn't have underestimated their stopping power. Oh, and correct if I'm wrong gents but I don't think Tony works on SMK's Body shots will always bring up different opinions and what I'm about to say is just mine based on my own experience. I may get some grief for this, but here goes..... I don't think pellet weight is really an issue, I use .20 FTTs at a quoted 11.44 grains an -
BSA Air sporter .177,5 shot group
andyfr1968 replied to davyt63's topic in General Airgun Discussion
The Airsporter was the last decent springer that BSA made, sadly. Nicely done, Davy! -
How the hell do they hit bullets like that in mid fight?? Cool film

Barrel cleaning..... I may have been wrong!!
andyfr1968 replied to andyfr1968's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thanks, lads. Simon, all of the problems I've had with the 90 were down to easily solved issues. A couple of less than perfect scopes which is just one of those things and a bad batch of pellets last year. This really had me scratching my head though Thank god for alcohol inspired solutions!! -
If the barrel's cut down and re crowned correctly then you can quite safely go down to around 10 inches in either caliber. If the gun's running at FAC power levels then around 14 inch is the safe minimum

Barrel cleaning..... I may have been wrong!!
andyfr1968 replied to andyfr1968's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thanks for the replys, lads The accuracy hadn't gone to bits, it just wasn't quite as good as I know the gun's capable of. At my 30 yard zero (the gun's a .20) I was getting groups of about half an inch or so and every 15 or 20 shots I was getting the odd one that would fly off an inch or so from the main group. I know that none of us are perfect and we all pull the odd shot but we usually know when we've done it and these were quite random. I was honestly starting to think it was down to me but I'm out and about 3 or 4 times at least most weeks so I'm lucky enough to be getting plent -

Give me a shout when you're back, be good to catch up and get out Say 'hi' to Helen from me and Debs -
The last few times I've been out with the 90 I've been noticing that it's normally brilliant accuracy has been a little lacking. I've checked everything that can be checked and even changed scopes but things were still not quite as good as I expect from it. I'd put it down to the fact that old age and poverty had finally got the better of me Anyway, while sitting at home on Friday night I got a bit bored with the telly and after a few tins of Strongbow to fuel my imagination I decided to give the barrel a good clean, after all, it couldn't possibly hurt could it? I took the old girl o

I like the sound of that, Simon. That spec sounds right up my street Fancy a trip over this week? I'd like a play with that -
Give Deben a shout, Darryl. They're the main importers for Hawke and their after sales service and customer care is pretty good. Hope you get sorted, mate

Rabbits and Feral Pigeons (Polymag Pretator .22)
andyfr1968 replied to Stuart1985's topic in Airgun Hunting
I had a 52 on ticket many years back and it was probably the most pellet fussy gun I've ever owned but by god, it shot accurately with Crossman Premiers. I've still got one now in .177 and I agree about them being a first class springer. They're very under rated IMO -
Just stick with either a used Air Arms or pretty much anything German. Fixed or break barrel will make sod all difference accuracy wise, it's just down to which style of rifle you prefer. You're the one who's going to be shooting with it, no one else. The Spanish built BSAs are shite mate and to be honest, the older UK made guns aren't much better in practice.

Nice one, thanks for that
