Tron may have had a bit of a brain fart on the maths front Lewis, but you should know that this bloke's probably forgotten more about airguns than you or me will ever know
-
Have a good one, Tony

As said above, it's mainly for Hawke optics but it can work fine as a decent guide with other makes. Try the 'generic mil-dot' option and go from there
-
If you've honestly never ever had a 'runner' then you're either a god of shooting or you haven't shot very much.

How do you figure that?? Plod will put whatever pellets they like through a gun to test it for power not just the ones you've carefully weighed out. If ANY pellet creeps it over you're in trouble.

Hawke Airmax Or Mambe Lite??
andyfr1968 replied to andyfr1968's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thanks for the replies, lads. Woodcote, it'll be mostly used on a HW90 but also occasionally on a Diana 52 (FAC, belongs to a mate )so I need something robust. Thanks, Davy. I think the Airmax is getting my vote now and I can't see the extra price of the Mamba being justified for what I need but I'll wait until I've seen Simon's scopes. I was very impressed with the ones I saw, properly good quality kit for the money. Simon.....!!!??? What a handy coincidence That sounds like a plan, give me a call at Debbie's when you get back up, that could well be a result Thanks again f -
Hawke Airmax Or Mambe Lite??
andyfr1968 replied to andyfr1968's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Cheers for that, Mike. I was looking at the MTCs at Redbeck the other day and I was impressed by the quality feel of the things. I'd like to see an Airmax properly before shelling out on either but I can't find anywhere locally that stocks them, I don't like buying blind if I can avoid it. Edit to add... Swillington are listing the 3-9x50 Airmax. I'll give them a ring tomorrow. -
Hawke Airmax Or Mambe Lite??
andyfr1968 replied to andyfr1968's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thanks for the reply. I've heard very good reports about the Mamba and I think it's probably got the nod so far but that said if the Airmax is comparable then I can maybe save a few quid 'cos I'm a bit light on spare cash just now!! -
I'll give a second vote to Redbeck in the Yorkshire area. Decent prices and helpful staff. The outdoor range is a bonus too.

Hi, lads. I'm looking at replacing my good old Leapers 2-7x32 with something a little better suited to the low light shooting that I'm finding myself doing a lot more of these days. Below are the two scopes that I think will suite me well for the money. Has any of you used either of these or could maybe suggest something else? Is the Mamba worth nearly twice the money of the Airmax? I'm not fussed about IR or complicated rets, I just want something fairly basic and robust. Cheers, folks http://www.uttings.c...44-rifle-scope/ http://www.uttings.c...ao-rifle-scope/ Just to a

That'll come up lovely with a bit of TLC. Go for it

I can't be doing with rets that make me feel like I'm trying to look through a load of scaffolding Give me a good old 30-30 any day

The best airgun scope I've ever owned was a Edgar Brothers fixed power 6x44 which I got about twenty years ago. It now lives on my mate Paul's HW90 as I gave it to him for helping me out big time last year. If it's a variable power scope I'm using they stay fixed on between 6 and 8 depending on the scope. Some makes 8x magnify no more than other's 6x, scopes can vary from make to make.

Webley Typhoon or Beeman 2004e
andyfr1968 replied to andyfr1968's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Well, after advice from Tony and others we picked up the Beeman this morning from Redbeck and what a lovely little pistol it is. When I first looked at the thing I wasn't too impressed, it looked cheap, felt cheap but then it is cheap. I shied away from the Webley after they let me try one on their range. It was too heavy for my boys, had a horrible trigger and to say it's meant to be semi-recoilless it bounced and jumped like feck!! Not a nice thing to use at all.... After getting the Beeman home, my boys and me have put a tin full of Hobbies through it this afternoon and it's a pleas -
I gave up on .177 vs .22 after nearly 30 years of swapping between the two and not finding either one had much advantage over the other for hunting. I still use both from time to time depending on what side of the bed I wake up on and what type of shooting I'm expecting but I'll not go back to either as a preference over .20 after I started using it a few years back. It's all bollox though, really. The biggest difference is what's inside the shooter's head. .177, .20, .22 and .25 will all kill cleanly if the shooter knows their kit.

T.H.L Air gun section meet,5,6,7,October 2012
andyfr1968 replied to davyt63's topic in General Airgun Discussion
If I put my name down then something will crop up and screw it up for me again, so I won't. Davy, if I can make it this time I'll give you a call near the time instead of making a twat out of myself on here. Hopefully see you then if not before -
Webley Typhoon or Beeman 2004e
andyfr1968 replied to andyfr1968's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I like the sound of the HW40, Malt, but from what I can gather it's basically the same gun as the Beeman but not quite so well finished off. I guess it's nothing that a strip, clean and lube won't help though on the Beeman. Mike? A 357 what??? Thanks, Tony, I think the 2004's got the nod so far. I can't find many folks who've got much nice to say about the Webley and apart from dry seals leaking, the little Beeman seems to get generally decent reports Thanks for the replys, lads -
Hi, folks. I'm looking at buying a cheepish pistol for me and my boys to do a bit of plinking with and also to help teach my boys better trigger control and I'm leaning towards one of the above but I'm reading some pretty mixed reviews about both pistols on the net. Has any of you had any experience with either of these of could maybe recomend another choice? I do not want to go for Co2 or anything too crappy but I am on a fairly tight budget. Cheers.

Soaking wet successful first night out on new permission.
andyfr1968 replied to pianoman's topic in Airgun Hunting
Takes me back to the rice fields of Nam with Charlie's hot breath hanging in the air making the rain feel like icey daggers that paved the way on the Ho Chi Minh trail. I've been picking bamboo out of my back ever since -
http://www.gunspares.co.uk/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=24458&cat=G36 Here you go, mate. It's not fantastic but it's the best I can find. If you're fairly clued up about basic mechanical principles then you should be fine. Just be careful when you free up the spring from the cylinder, if it's in good nick it'll be under a fair bit of pre-load. I hope your lad enjoys it, they're a decent old springer for a boy

HW90. If you give me a shout we could maybe meet up and you can try mine. Much nicer to shoot than the Evo. I think I'll be over at Redbeck later on this week, Chris.

My little JSR 2-7x32 is the best field sight I've used. Strong, compact, simple and clear. Knocks the spots off a lot of far more expensive gear for hunting IMO
-
It's only the internet, FFS. Ignore whoever's hacked you off mate, and get on with the rest

I'm glad you enjoyed it Simon, it was really good to have you over. It was a shame the weather was a bit pants but I don't mind a bit of rain whilst shooting, it always seems to put a slightly different slant on things somehow. Hopefully next time the sun will be kind to you!! Anytime you want to come over, you know where I am Take it easy, mate.
