Air rifle shooting. How it should always be....

I really think that Simon's touched a nerve with quite a few folks on here. It's made me more aware of how lucky I am that I've been brought up the way that I have been by my own Dad and how fortunate I am to be able to pass on my own experiences to my boys. There's the sad fact that if our younger generation don't appreciate what we have then what we have will be gone through legislation and ignorant bullshit by folks who have little or no understanding of how things really are. -

Chris, you can swap between barrels. They're the same fitting. -
Lamp.. zero changes?!

Anything you change on any gun needs checking. And spring airguns are the worst culprit. -

This really has been a lovely thread. I guess that I take it for granted that my boys love doing the things that I love too. Maybe that's partly because of the fact that we don't spend much time together and what we do is special. I tell them often when we're out and about that what we do is something that most folks will never experience and I think that they understand that. If our next generation doesn't learn to love and respect our way of life then I fear that the generation after them will never have the chance. And just to add.... Simon, the rabbit I shot standing was helpe -
Brake or carb cleaning spray to clean all the crap out of the cylinder then mop it all out with a rag. Then repeat another couple of times. Make sure it's all properly dried out before you re assemble it and shoot otherwise it'll diesel like feck and you could end up doing all manner of damage. A tiny smear of pure silicon grease around the piston seal and an even smaller wipe of molly grease on the piston skirt and you should be fine

Thanks, Simon My Dad was a PT and small arms instructor in the RAF Regiment and it's him who gave me my respect and fear of guns and that's what I've always tried to pass on to my boys. He's 83 now and sadly can no longer come out with us. I'd like you to meet him some day, you'd have a lot to talk about. Until next time Andy. -

Awwww... Thanks, Simon, and thanks to all for all the other comments about my boys folks They've been coming out and about with me for the last three years or so but these days I'm only with them every second weekend (thanks to their f*****g mum ). They love all aspects of fieldsports, not just shooting and they love the countryside. I'm very proud of them and I know I'm very lucky to have two such well disposed kids considering what f**k ups me and their mum are Whatever differences we have, however, good manners, decent behavior and respect for others have always been instilled in t -
FTTs tip in at a claimed 11.42 and my 90 loves them. They fly nice and flat and pack a proper punch down range, I can't fault them in mine.
-
I fitted a .20 barrel to my HW90 about five years back and I wouldn't change back as my main caliber. That said, I also use .22 and .177 from time to time if I fancy a change but I'll stick with my 20's for the most part

Neither gun's better than the other, they're just different. That said, if you're wanting it to go on your ticket the wins hands down. 20 plus ft-lbs is within easy reach without ruining the rifle. The TX however, turns into a total dog once past around 16 so there's really no point.

I could do with a giggle as I've just been dumped by one. I'll start. A blonde woman was driving along & saw another blonde woman trying to row a boat in the middle of a field. Incensed, she stopped, got out & yelled out to the other woman "ya' know, it's women like you that give all us blondes a bad name, & if I could swim, I'd come out there & kick your ass!"

Does it really make a difference if it's fitted to one side of the spring or the other? Either way will reduce the torque effect of the spring, or is it that the extra weight at the piston end will possibly cause power problems in some rifles? Edit to add.... PM if required, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

hi Andy i can find out for you Thanks, Davy. I'd appreciate that. Hi Andy Just spoke to bob ruggles aka chairman, he says it's fine! They have other shooters, who are in the same boat ! Thanks, Davy. I'll see how I'm fixed nearer the time. Work's a bit random just now but if I can make it, I'd love to have a go and hopefully not make too much of a twat out of myself!!

I'd be interested in something like this but as I understand it some of the shots must be taken prone. I can't shoot properly from that position because of an old shoulder and neck injury (stupid motorbike!!) I can only shoot standing or seated. How would this fit in, if at all?
