  2. What are gregs line like. We use to get hounds off him from the mink pack were top class. Has he many teriiers. does he dig alot woth them?
  3. Try aludex, it is for poultry. but works look in the dog health section of this foroum loads people use it.
  4. I worked with a pack in Virginia in america for a summer and we all carried pistols with rat shot, or rock salt in shotguns and would shoot the hounds in the ass if they at it. Here with our own hounds we just use the crack of a whip or a good stick when you catch them at it. You must catch them at it though. Its no good afterwards.
  5. That sounds a great day. Scent is good at the moment. We had our best day of the season saturday. Marked bed fox after 20 mins and killed him. Then found at 235pm did big left hand circle and back into covert and lost him for twenty mins until he was seen slipping away out the back. Stopped hounds in the pitch dark crossing a road at 630. Still missing two though. Where abouts do you hunt? What pack was it in pics?
  6. "Posters"......people from this site attacking you over your dogs and stories, they can be identified by the arse sores and blistered fingers from sitting on a keyboard all day and not from hunting...... Good luck with what will be a great sport/passion/ way of life you are entering.
  7. Thanks a million for all the good feed back lads, it is great to get it when you see all the work that goes in to the show and hunting. Good hunting to you all and see you May 2nd
  8. You could take it and live for your free time or not take it and you could end up getting a shit job and NO permission, count yourself lucky lad
  9. She just needs plenty of time. I know this is not very helpful and it is only MY opinoin but i would not give her any more in the pocket. What you will find is that after too many of these she will go in every hole two foot and come out. She will keep thinking her game should only be two foot in. I hope all works out for you. Good Hunting
  10. Cheers Stuart, lets hope we have the same weather and the crowd as last year. We have added a falconery display, and have few more surprises in the pipeline. See you there. Thanks for the support.

  15. We do have two welsh cross, no pics of them i am afraid but this is the rest of the pack waiting for a kill, not bolt i am afraid.
  16. I am not getting into this slagging, but is it not very bad luck to be selling pups when your six months off covering mind 63 nervous days. There is so much that can go wrong with whelps.
  17. Yes the welsh is a brilliant hound they have excellent cry and nose. But IN MY OPINION WITH THE HOUNDS WE WHAVE HUNTED they can be a bit soft. As in once they get a shock of electric wire they give up for a day, also can be slow to draw very thick gorse. I would say the old english foxhound is a better bet. They have good voice and nose and as hardy as they come. I often seen a certain pack of pure old english hounds hunt come to wire, and some hounds duck the otheres that get shocked were generally back on the line speaking by the liddle of the next field. very good robust hound. They very ra
  18. its 63 days from been covered. So after 55-60 days she will have milk, hopefully. At about 40 - 50 days you will see a drop in her belly where the rib cage ends. You will only notice this if you look before feeding. Once you have a rough idea she is in whelp you need to double her feed and give her milk and water. Best of luck. Max you will have to wait is two weeks, which if you have waited this long is not much more Good hunting Johnny85 P.s where abouts are you? some vets will handle her for free to let you know
  19. When ever we leave out one of ours there are few things to do. 1. Ring local radio station 2. ring all the dog pounds 3. Call all the local schools offering a reward, this works best as you get competition between kids to find it 4. As said leave bedding or coat at the meet 5. Last thing, we have never done it but a local pack setsa a fox trap if they leave one out for a long time. All the best hope you find it Good Hunting Johnny85

  22. I love shallow digs, but I am afraid unless you have stopped the big places you know you dont have a choice. if you are digging for a pack, The fox decides how deep he goes and the huntsman decides to dig it or not
  23. This is a very interesting thread. The bitch you are on about breeding from was for sale on here a couple of months ago. She was been sold as untried and had come from KG to a friend and she would probably make it. I was keen in her but they wanted 250 for her....... If you want advice on breeding you ask a friendly vet not a forum.
  24. Ok so you say they dont dig on. I accept that BUT what do you do when the fox has squeezed on and on. Pushed so hard he is up a hole size of your fist and your dogs shoulders are still stuck further back down the hole. I would like to have a day with you and your dogs. This is not an attack post. I am purely saying in my short digging carrer I have had to open up a couple of holes on a few occassions where dog is stuck and is trying to get on. Either where you live you only have big enough holes, your dog must be narrowest dog going, or you just hunt very fat foxes. Please do not take this as
  25. I dont think you always have to fork out big money for good dogs. I am only young but the bitch I work at the moment cost me a bottle of whiskey the two youngs pups both cost a bottle each all form different people. One man from Cork who writes in a famous mag, I think is a true gentleman. Two years ago he gave me a cracking 18 month old bitch. She was just a bit too small for him, in exchange for a bottle of whiskey. I dug twice to her bang on, then she killed was called in the kennels. My own fault, I was gutted. I rang him to tell him, he said no problem at all and three months later he ran
