I was ferreting a nice little mound yesterday and decided to get my phone out to film the pup as she was covering the warren nicely ... after a couple of minuets I stopped recording ... at that very same second a rabbit bolted from the top hole on the mound just below the pup and headed towards the bottom set of holes ... the pup was on it in a flash and as it got to one of the holes the pup dived sort of sideways with her head down the hole and in one movement came tumbling out and onto her feet with the rabbit in her mouth which she promptly brought straight to me ... Goodnature recommend that they are eplaced 10cm above ground. Good height for rats, stoats, hedgehogs and red squirrels. Putting them higher would minmise hedgehog kills but it would still make a mess of red squirrels. Tom Then you wouldn't use them in an area populated by red squirrels the same as you wouldn't use a fenn or body grip or Kania etc etc etc ....... But if you are after stoats, what do you do because stoats and red squirrels often co-exist in the same habitat? Or they certainly used to when I was growing up in the Highlands. I think some of you guys are confusing heart with bravery ... Ali knew what he was capable of in the ring and in his mind he was going to be the winner ... worst case scenario he was going to be knocked out ... a big heart ... flying off to a foreign country in an alien environment living in shit accommodation eating shit food getting minimal sleep knowing that the next patrol the next footstep you take could see you lose body parts or die but still doing it is bravery ... to very different things IMO .........

It's all about being aware of your target species ... it's simple to locate the good nature trap to a position that would make it impossible for it to kill a hedgehog but can still kill rats ... it only takes a tiny bit of thought .....

If that was me it would be the beginning of the end for my relationship as I would either pick the dogs in the first place or if i didn't and got rid of the dogs that would drive a wedge between me and my missus and I would resent her for ever and that wedge would get wider and wider .......

It's the complete opposite where I live ... it's a very posh area with stuck up fuckers everywhere and when the reduced stuff goes out in Waitrose you see them circling around until the isle is empty before dipping in and grabbing something lol ... they don't want to be seen in the reduced section lol ......
