Folk will tell you they wont breed but they will. Make sure they have soft soaked food from the start and if your wire mesh goes to the floor you might want to stop them getting out through it as they'll fit through 1/2 " mesh.

High And Low Points Of The Season
neil cooney replied to Pirate 9000's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
High points were not blanking and have 5 digs in one day when some friends visited. Low points were having the gout twice and not having a van for a month all accumulating in my smallest tally in years. But thankfully had no new entry but I have for next year so that's something to look forward too. Onwards and upwards, as they say. -
The same old woman rang me a couple of months ago in a panic to tell me that there was a fox in her larsen and could I kill it ASAP. I was actually only 2 fields from her yard and had 2 terriers and the lurcher with me. I thought to myself I could be there in minute and do the job but I said to myself that if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing properly so I drove the 3 miles home as quick as possible and grabbed the .22. I got back to her yard and as I'm walking towards the trap with her beside me just as I reached into my pocket for a bullet the fox reached up and pulled down the door, sl

I spent all morning visiting a few farmers who's land I have traps on. One farmers mother was telling me that they were alarmed this morning to find that someone had driven like a lunatic all over the front lawn. A lawn of around an acre in size. I got home about an hour ago and this old woman rang me to tell me they'd solved the mystery. They were all away last night and just after dark the farmers father-in-law called to visit. As he was driving up the drive he seen a fox and immediately thought of their chickens. So to cut a long story short this ol' boy did a few laps of the lawn in h

Blue had a heart as big as a house but I fail to see what that has to do with todays so called Bedlingtons. i think most terriers are f**

Hedgehogs In Live Traps
neil cooney replied to Terrier15's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Don't know if you're giving me a bit of a bollocking there Eddie ,and maybe I deserve it. When feeding my fowl a bit of grain gets spilt left ,right and centre and goes into every nook and cranny and the birds follow. Hence the reason I use cage traps. Tunnels with tight entrances don't stop them. On the plus side, I have a very tame Robin ,who's NEARLY eating out of my hand, several Yellow Hammers and a flock of Tree Sparrows feeding around my pens which is impressive. Especially nice to see the Tree Sparrows. -
I agree but now and again you do see youngsters that just seem to know how to work what's in front of them in a different style to something else.

I'd rather cross my terriers with my van than a Bedlington. Any luck with finding a Red dog Mary ?

Hedgehogs In Live Traps
neil cooney replied to Terrier15's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Are you using a meat type bait ?Hedgehogs shouldn't enter a trap if you're using grain as bait, but rats will. I caught hedgehogs for 9 or 10 days in a row in a cat trap when using dog food as bait. On the 2nd last day I marked the Hedgehog with a bit of whitewash and sure enough he was in the trap the next morning. I had been catching the same one all along. I've caught plenty of hedgehogs in cages baited with nuts for squirrels or carrot and apple for rabbits. Strange but it happens Checked a Mink cage trap this morning that had two eggs in it for bait. As I got to it I could se -
Quiet dramatic Rob and I take my hat off to anyone who'd skin a rat. Fair play.

Seen it, fair play. Came from a mile behind but was never in doubt. But I'm always suspicious of the American horses. Would he win in Britain or Ireland ? Fair play to Jack Hobbs too. John Gosden's as good as any and always speaks sense.
