There you go Smasher, proves that there can be localised traits in colour and size. Would love to see the 24 pounder. Might have seen one or two that size in the flesh but doubt I ever had one in my hands that size. Fair play.

Raz De Maree for me. Both trainer and jockey are from the parish I grew up in and both are good hunting men. I even sold the trainer ferrets when he was young. Horse has a good EW chance IMO.

Apologies for being a little off subject but I watched a 3/4 grown Leveret this morning as it was getting bright and the first thing I thought of was this Fox. The Leveret was marked exactly the same with the same colouring. Never ever have I seen a Hare at this time of the year like it. The Fox in the photo, is it the one Black Stuff took ? He told me all about it.

If you're worried about a dog being in a kennel and run for 8 hours then I would say your terriers are lucky dogs. Most lads wont admit it but a lot of terriers get no exercise and some are locked up 24/7. IMO lack of fitness is a big factor in terriers not making the grade. If terriers got out for a while to empty and run around in the morning and some good exercise in the evening then lack of fitness shouldn't be a factor in them not working out.

Once the word "Bull" is mentioned novices or folk who've never seen one assume it's hard. Back in the day when good proper Russells were common and the Staff was doing what a Staff should do there were many crosses of both that were good reliable steady terriers. Then again, there's still lads around today who associate the words "Patterdale" or "Black" with suicidal.

When it comes to shape, colour and coat I'd believe anything regarding the Red Fox but one thing I wont buy is the legendary 40 pounder. I killed one of the biggest foxes I've ever seen this year but didn't weigh him. A couple of days later I killed another big dog and had a scales in my pocket. He was 18 1/2 lbs weight. So I'm guessing the first fox was around 22 or 23 lbs so for a 40 pounder you'd have to nearly double that. Impossible IMO. I know the Guinness book of records had the record at 30 lbs years back (I think it was shot in Gloucestershire) so another 10 lbs on top of that , I

Maybe it's because we see them so often that we see variations in foxes and they definitely vary very much in coat, size and shape. I've recently cleaned up two skulls, both large old dog foxes, both killed by me within a mile of one another, each killed about two years apart. Yet, if you held the two skulls beside one another you'd think they were different species. One looks like a bulldoggy type, the other like a saluki's type.

It's something I often thought about doing but after being given a bottle a couple of weeks back I wonder is it worth the trouble. Don't get me wrong, I found nothing wrong with it but nothing special either.
