  1. There's a fair pair of gnashers on that boy. A nice mask that looks like it came of a big fox. Any history with it?
  2. so you all joined hand and had a séance to locate your terrier that had been to ground for hours and was mute , ear to the ground better than a t five or six inches in to the ground to listen prey tell all how you located your superior terriers and tube , trenching , not being a smart just like to know , as the old men many long gone , used them , and used them successfully yes the location systems of today are superior , but a t is still a Handy bit of history to fall back on , never dug by pylons , or a railways line and you bf goes
  3. The most over rated, over used piece of kit. Lads spend small fortunes on finders and never bother their arses learning how to use them and then depend on a piece of steel that in most cases only hinders a terrier at his work.
  4. It's nearly 10 years since I got it but it had a bit of everything in it. I used to love the old photos of cowboys hunting jaguar and cougar (lion). There was a fellow wrote on working terriers called Pete Bassani I think. White terriers used mostly on grey fox. But it was for the tales of good hunts on dangerous game that I liked.
  5. Thanks Stuntman. A pack I follow over here has American blood mixed through it and they're good hounds. Tell me ,is the Magazine "Full Cry" still going? I used to get it and it was a good read, even if there was a lot of anti terrier remarks made in it.
  6. Very nice, well reared pups there. Hope they do you proud. Tell us a bit about them, do you make that cross on purpose? ie. does the cross be better than the pure or do you just use the best available?
  7. Thanks for the replys folks, It's actually a large hazel copse I'm trapping so IMO hazel nuts wouldn't entice them into a trap although anything is better than feeding mice. This morning 2 traps had rats in them while another had a cock blackbird. To rub it in I seen 4 squirrels running on the lane.
  8. If I used maize (yellow corn) instead of peanuts would it stop the mice cleaning up my bait before the squirrels find them in my cage traps?
  9. Muzzel your dog and cut the nail to the quick. If you don't muzzel him he'll eat you. This will releave the toe of pressure and will drain it. No exercise for a while and keep it clean.
  10. And of course Rocko your comparing them to all the great hunts that you've hunted with and your saying that they're useless because your an expert at following hounds, aren't you? There's no such thing as a hunt that doesn't have bad days. Maybe you should start your own pack and maybe you should put up your full name on the inter-net so that the people your bad mouthing can ask you not to come again and maybe they'll send you back the price of a couple of pints that you say they stole of you. A proper hunting man would keep his mouth shut and quietly tell himself not to bother with a certai
  11. IMO that dog looks like he has done that before and does it well. That's why he's still alive. When he was having it all his own way he looked game but as soon as things went against him he got out of there ASAP. One thing about gameness is that a dog/gamecock/horse/man or wild animal usually has to be on the loosing end of what ever the competition may be before their gameness (if any) becomes evident. We can all look good when winning. Just as well that dog knew when to quit as there wasn't one man there going to help him.
  12. If that's what the girl wants to do with her dog then that's her buisness. What's a pity is that there's that many being bred that they're ending up in rescue centres. Yes I know they can't all make the grade but the right thing should be done to non-workers. For tracking a scent a terrier should be very good and sadly if a few of them made names for themselves then everyone would want them. The Yanks are useing them for weight pulling this years.
  13. Some might say the dog quit.
  14. I wouldn't over do the rabbit with lurcher pups (or terriers) as they'll associate them with food, especially with the skin on ?????? Once pups are off the bitch don't give milk. Tripe.....YES. If your feeding 4 times a day and your giving a quality food and they're wormed and they're healthy in their coat, eyes, gums etc. etc. and they're active and playing with each other then there's a good chance you have healthy pups who just happen to be skinny.
  15. Could you put up the recipe please. I have a few marrows here to use and that looks nice.
  16. he's probably a member here too so.
  17. It's a funny thing that although the vast majority of the Irish breeds of terriers (the Wheaten, the Kerry and the Irish. I've never heard of Glens used in lurcher breeding.) are curs when used for a lurcher cross they can be usefull. I've seen 2 good Kerry Blue crosses and at the end of the day the Kerry is just a rough and ready cur.
  18. At 7 months twice a day is enough to feed a pup and don't feed all they can eat. Obesity is not good for any living thing and a lot of dogs will allow themselves to become obese if allowed. By the time your dog is 12 months old once a day will be enough, morning or evening is your choice. As for offal? It's not enough on it's own for a balanced diet and too much will scour your dog. Your dog will love the offal but it needs to be balanced with red meat, tripe, veg or meal. Personally I wouldn't feed offal more than once a week. If the pins on your dog are exposed it's probably underweight
  19. Too true Dee,certain lines of terriers owned by certain well known men often make big/great names for themselves when sent to Europe and the States. Yet over here the same terriers are NOT taken seriously by those that work them hard and true.
  20. LOL I said it was very early for mushrooms, I've seen them twice in the last few days.
  21. Very few packs Beagler that could keep a dog pack and a bitch pack. You'd need to be hunting at least 3 days a week. Mixing on a days hunting ,yes, and kennel them seperate is the only solution.
  22. How soon 'till we see Boerboel lurchers.
