Dmick I think your talking about chancers out catching hares to sell to other chancers for blooding. That's nothing to do with organised coursing where the hares are counted by the wildlife warden who then goes out with the C.C. the day after the meet and watches and counts the hares being returned to the place where they were caught. Statements like yours only do harm when put on the www for the all to see. Especially as it's obvious you haven't a clue what your on about. It's illegal to net hares without a liscence. It's illegal to course hares with lurchers.

You must be just lucky to hunt with good sportsmen Bighunter. Several times every year I meet lurcher men while out (including some of the big names) and it's always a farce. Several lurchers at a time and if they want to prove they killed a hare they've to go back to the ditch they threw it in and fetch it to show you. Maybe during a match or when with guests they run them single or doubled up but I don't see it.

There are more deer in Ireland now than any time in living memory. I wouldn't be supprised if the grouse numbers are at their average level too. We've never had much grouse (compared to Northern England and Scotland) and those who count them have always been lucky if they seen more than a few brace in a days counting over pointers and setters. I put the scarcity in hares down to 2 things, 1. lurcher men (they're not pothunters because they throw them in the ditch) who run 4 and 5 dogs at a time (this is most lurcher men)and 2. Buzzards, we've never had so many and they kill a lot of leverets.

I've had quail but can't say I kept them for laying but some soaked dog food (27%) mixed through your feed would certainly rise the protein and all fowl love it.

True, a child crying can sound very similar to a hare in distress. Some instinct maybe kicked of in a city fox.

Thats the way you's boys have to do it but the day I have to use a hair rig on an Irish water is the day I'll give it up, LOL. Mind you, I swore I'd never use pellets.

Will the parents have to say that the raise gamebirds before the foxes can be controlled?
-
Now and again I fish a lake that has plenty of tench and tons of small rudd. To target the tench I feed small pellets with a soft tutti frutti pellet on the hook. I've had up to 16 tench in a morning with no rudd. Using maggots I've had 100s of small rudd with no tench.

How to rid slugs eating chicken food?
neil cooney replied to harrycatcat's topic in Fowl & Feather Talk
Good advice as usual from Duckwing. Whats more dangerous is the larger, furrier type of vermin that come around when you leave food down overnight. -
Hen sitting for a few hours a day then leaving
neil cooney replied to NORELATION's topic in Fowl & Feather Talk
Why would you replace her eggs with stone ones? She wont go down on her eggs 'till she's ready and by leaving her eggs with her she'll turn them her self. Eggs taken away and not looked after can be ruined. I know with cage birds eggs are removed and then replaced. Thats to insure they all hatch together but a hen wont start incubating till the clutch is complete. JMHO but to much messing goes on with eggs etc. and it's one of the reasons we now have breeds of birds that won't reproduce naturally and incubators are used to often. -
A good site....... www.ultimatefowl.com

It was Thomas Byrne TD Fianna Fail, East Meath, I'm not saying his loyalties are towards fieldsports but I'd say he has half a brain and knows how big this actually is!!!!!!!!! The R.I.S.E. campaign is in protest to the proposed plans by the Green Party here in the Irish Republic. At the moment the Green Party run the Irish Government. Simple as that. John Gormley's proposals will hinder ALL our chosen fieldsports wether you like it or not.
-
Most of you's Irish hunters are or should be aware of the R.I.S.E. campaign in defence of all fieldsports in Ireland. One thing R.I.S.E. keeps pushing is to speak to your local T.D. and speak your case and tell them of your mistrust of our current government regarding fieldsports. A month ago a few of us here in our village spoke and voiced our concern to our local T.D. We more or less told him that the fieldsports faternity of Ireland wont take their bullshit. Guess what ???? He stood up in the Dail and spoke directly to Gormless and fought our corner. Numbers count folks.

I've always wanted to try that. Are some folks not tieing a dog biscuit imitation using deer hair and trimming it round in shapefor carp nowadays. Surely you'd tie that JD. Well done.

im thinking of maybe keeping a small aviary
neil cooney replied to scothunter's topic in Cage and Aviary Birds
Yeh, hard to go wrong with most breeds of canary. A few Diamond Doves is nice in an aviary too with some quail on the floor. -
bad gamekeeping skills
neil cooney replied to hunter1995's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I've 5 larsens on the go at the moment and I feed mince and dog food and only feed enough to last a day (even though I check them twice a day.). As a result I've had people ask me why is there no food in with the bird. Also if the drinker is large enough the call birds love to have a good wash and this will quickly empty the water. If your feeding whole rabbits etc. a rotten heap will soon build up in the trap and you'll know all about smell if you've ever to move a trap in your vehicle, yuk. -
No it's OK because only terrier men know what red lads and grey lads mean. The anti's and the police haven't a clue. It's the same with lads who black out their faces whilst holding a dog, game or even a fish (ffs). They black out their faces not because they're looking guilty of something but because their modest.

The Quickest Alcohol Method
neil cooney replied to MissRhianL's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
Mix meths with anything and hey presto.......drunk for a week. There are a few recipes that are ready in a week ie. Elderflower champaigne and nettle ale. -
Where to position them is of utmost importance. Most hunts have stopped making shores because it made it to easy for the cub killers.
-
There are lads who go all season accounting for a lot of foxes and rarely have to dig. Wether it's bolting foxes to guns, lurchers ,hounds or into nets. A lot depends on the type of terrier used, the type of earth and how you approach the job.

What funding? In that bullshit up there it says to secure the border and throw out anyone who doesn't swear an oath to the British establishment. Theres 3 counties in Ulster that are part of the Republic. So is the NF going to invade again LMFAO. Your as ignorant as that load of crap up there.
-
I read the little bit regarding the North of Ireland and in that little bit their ignorance is astounding.
-
Up to maybe 15 or 20 years ago the hound cross lurcher was common enough in Ireland with some of the best known coursing men liking the cross. If I remember correctly Kellys well known bitch Chorus was part beagle and she was a well known killer of hares. JMHO but if you need to cross hounds with the likes of collie to make them better in covert then your using the wrong hounds.

I sincerly hope that those b*****ds have not got the use of their legs anymore. If it was me the next place they'd rob would need to be wheelchair accessable.
