  1. At the start of the Summer fill a half barrell with sheepdip, keep it covered and you can use it as little or as often as you want. You'll keep fleas and mites of several dogs all summer for between 10 and 20 quid. Another tip is to try and feed garlic. It does work but is more of a preventitive than a cure.
  2. Posts like "hack their hands off" and "all thieves should be shot" will really solve the problem. The fact is dogs are stolen for 2 different reasons. 1. There is a steady market in dogs by dog swappers who don't care where or who the dog came about. 2. Then there are the type of folk who want a particular dog for work or breeding and will do whatever it takes to get it. IMO the first kind of thief is usually of the traveller type (I make no apologies) and anyone who buys dogs of scumbag types without asking questions is just as guilty. The second type is usually brought on by jealousy
  3. Hare coursings been banned in Northern Ireland and there is an up and coming bill to ban foxhunting so be prepared. The arguement being that the North is the only place left in G.B. that hunting still takes place. Stag hunting has just been outlawed in the Republic. The Dog breeding bill is to be debated Friday. Nothing to do with cruelty to animals. The FF party was blackmailed by the Green b*****ds. Simple as that. Always makes me laugh when the yanks come on the net saying come on over to the land of the free. They've got stricter rules regarding hunting than we have.
  4. True DEs, Also the size of the Kerry Beagle is disputed too .
  5. The Kerry beagle is a unique hound originating from the Scarteen hunt or the Black and Tans as they're known. They're known to be a very strong willed hound. They're are a few hunts in Ireland, Britain and Europe who use a lot of these hounds as drafts but not all huntsmen like them because of their strong nature. How sad to hear of one of them having to spend his life on a lead.
  6. Wild and Irish I'm not sure what your on about. You say the kiling of hares has been banned for years. IT'S NOT BANNED NOW. Coursing hares is however. Beagling and hunting with Harriers is still very much legal in N.I. You think fox hunting is safe, good man, keep telling yourself that.
  7. A good turn out but could have been better. There was Houndsmen from Armagh and Monaghan. Packs from Waterford, Wicklow and Cork were there. ALL the local packs were represented. The North Galways and the famous Blazers were there. Several gun clubs and a few angling and coursing clubs were there. But I personally know of hunting folk that lived close by that I know for a fact were not there. Sad really. There's a lot of you out there that still think this is all about the Wards. Bollocks. On Tuesday evening the vote on the Ward Union is being held in the Dail. We need 4 more TDs to chan
  8. The first dog is a cur and I don't mean the black mouthed mountain type.
  9. it has been banned for years f**k the ban has not stopped anyone yet Once again Big Hunter you write a load of bullshit in a few small words. Hare Coursing hasn't been banned for years and the organised coursing events run under rules has now finished even though scientific evidence has proven that the hare population thrives were coursing takes place. Think before you speak.
  10. Several FF TDs have said that they oppose a ban but will vote for it because it's what the government wants. Truth is it's not what the government wants, it's what the slimey greens want. With out the greens the coalition will collapse and Gormless knows this. No matter what issue the FF party brings up Gormless opposes unless they give him the Ward Unions. In effect the Greens are black mailing the Government. This was told to me personally by a TD. If they ban the Wards what will the greens want next and use blackmail to get it. Remember these assholes have another 2 years in power. Th
  11. After a series of temporary bans Hare coursing is now banned in Northern Ireland. There are moves by the Greens in NI to introduce a ban on foxhunting as the North of Ireland is the only place left in the British Isles where it's still legal. Be prepared folks.
  12. He looked worried to me on the 9 o clock news Jigsaw. He got a good slating from all angles and no one trusts him.
  13. If like 99% of us your butchering your venison in a shed all you need is 2 bits of rope and 2 S hooks to hang your deer from for skinning and splitting the beast. Tie the rope a few feet apart from each other at the right level with a loop at the end for the hooks and hang from the rafters or frame. Your local butcher will have sales reps in and out on a weekly basis selling knives, steels, hooks etc. Get the butcher to buy them for you through the trade.
  14. Might be working. At the moment the debate regarding the banning of the Ward Union Hunt is taking place and the Labour party has turned around and is now opposed to a ban on the Wards. Gormless is going mad and says he is dissappointed. Yet he's usually the one that turns around on things, ie. the puppy farming bill and the incinerator in his own constituancy. Some politicians have said they feel that the Wards is just the thin end of the wedge and that all fieldsports are under threat. Gormless has also said he tried to talk to hunters but it didn't work, bollocks. My own opinion is that th
  15. His puppy farming bill is worded in such a way that not only puppy farms will be charged large fees. Anyone with a few bitches will. This includes non-profit making hunt kennels and will hit coursing and racing greyhound kennels very hard. His animal welfare bill is worded in such a way that ALL hunting with dogs/hounds will become impossible. In this bill he hasn't used the word VERMIN. Everything refers to the "animal". It will be illegal to set an animal on another animal, ie. terrier-fox, terrier-rat, lurcher-rabbit etc. etc. If took to the word it would be illegal to use a spaniel to flu
  16. It's unfortunate Albert that the first day of your game fair should coincide with a major fieldsports rally in the republic. But then again fighting for our sport should come before pleasure. Blame the Greens.
  17. Folks, as we speak that idiot Gormley is attempting to rush his proposed bills through the Dail. This affects us ALL. There is a protest rally this Saturday the 26th June in Trim ,Co.Meath. Meet 12 o clock, Trim Castle Hotel. Tell everyone.
  18. Just my two bits but Canaries are making 25euro in my local petshops. Rabbits 40 euro. Some of the fish in my daughters aquarium cost 15 euro and they could be dead within a few months. These animals sit in cages or tanks doing nothing. A ferret can give years of service with plenty of sport and rabbit meat too. JMHO but if someones moaning about parting with the price of a few pints they're not going to part with time and money looking after that animal.
  19. I keep a trio myself, love them.
  20. Think about it. Like all omnivores the badger is an opportunist. He's also a powerful animal and faster than he looks. I would be supprised if he'd catch a lamb older than 2 or 3 days unless he got near it in the darkness but a new born lamb would be no problem, especially a twin and the ewe's defence would hardly upset a badger. An old hunting farmer I knew (RIP) seen it happen with his own 2 eyes and a terrierman I know whilst out looking for a lamb killing vixen accidentally dug a sow with cubs who had the remains of 5 lambs in the sett with her. The particular farmer was an excellent sto
  21. Im usually one of the first to complain about cub killing but the amount of foxes this man seems to have on his land is way too much and I couldn't blame him. Large litters too near one another is too much foxes and no wildlife or game could take that onslaught. As a result the fox would end up suffering too. It's just common sense fox conltrol and not someone boasting about their big ''tuff'' lurcher killing a cub. Nor is it a picture of a fox cub shot with .243 or bigger. Seems the rifle size fitted the quarry size. Would you shoot adult foxes with a .22 though?
  22. Your right Duckwing. In Ireland there isn't much of a tradition of snareing or trapping and any vermin control thats done is done if there's a sporting element to it ie. fox drives, roost shooting etc. But in the last few years the gun clubs have started appointing vermin officers and those that take the role seriously are making a difference. You can tell as you drive through the countryside what clubs are doing their job and which aren't. For the last few years I've been the local vermin officer and after a couple of years you can see the difference. Songbirds, leverets and our wild pheasa
  23. Yes it's been found that on preserves managed by coursing clubs that the hare population is much higher. This project was carried out by a University in Northern Ireland and not a hunting association. So you reckon clubs will pay 100 euro a hare? Personally I much prefare open coursing but I used to net hares for a neighbouring club who ran a 64 dog meet which meant they needed around 72 or more hares to run their meet. At 100 euro a hare they wouldn't be long going bang, would they? I think your confusing legitimate run coursing meets with some of the cowboys who do go out and give us all
